I think that obsession with will they won’t they romance in modern fiction might be part of why modern dating is so screwed up. Kids learn a lot about what romance should look like from stories, since most of the relationships the observe in real life are already well underway. The hot and cold trope undercuts men’s hope that admitting interest might result in something positive and tells women they need to be incredibly subtle if they don’t want to come off desperate. Gen Z especially is afraid of reaching out to people they’re interested in.

Bro stuff like that was crazy making for me as a kid. I was never into “lovey junk” when I was younger, and would groan every time another round of “will they, won’t they” started up again. Now that I’m older, I still have no patience with the flitting romances that last an episode, then they forget about it, and then ten episodes later, they’re right back again. But relationships like this, where it seems so steady, so sure, these are the romances I wish shows of my youth actually did.

That's how my wife and I were when we met. No melodrama, no cliffhangers, just two people looking for a serious and positive relationship and we happened to have a lot of the same goals for having a family. It just clicked. No cliffhangers or filler episodes, just straight to the punchline.

I hate that. We generally never got to see them get together properly, or see the relationship unfold. So we never saw a sustainable relationship. I also hate when characters get together right at the end of a season after all the drama, they when the next season starts, some time has passed and they break up right on episode 1 or have broken up off screen. All the relationship and good times were offscreen so we never got the pay-off for withstanding all the drama

Question is one of those characters that doesn't seem to work on his own; his solo series hardly ever lasts all that long, and he's never had any series outside of comics dedicated to him (as far as I know), but that's alright because Question shines in another way. When Question has someone to bounce off of, that's where he really shows his worth in a story; he needs other people to make him work in the best ways possible. Question works best when he has others to work with, which is interesting when you think about it. You would think his archetype would be best set up as that type that works alone and goes off to do his own thing, but he usually works best when it's the opposite; having others to work with makes Vic work as a character better than having him work alone. And having Huntress as the one he bounces off of most, at least in the DCAU, works surprisingly well, primarily because of how their personalities are established within the framework of the DCAU, but I think that could still be the case if they were to get incarnations side by side in some other continuity.

Didn't know about the embargo, it makes more awesome to know JLU got away with it in some episodes, I remember that in "Grudgematch" Huntress goes to Bludhaven and they show Nightwing silhouette watching from a rooftop

I actually kind of dig how Huntress takes a passive interest, but never derides it. She seems to respect his intuition, even if it seems absurd. And to be fair, Question is not always wrong. Eccentric, yes, but in a world where people can run faster than time and out of dimension, where a man of Steel can fly beyond to the edge of space, gods and devils alike roam your planet, multidimensional travel....is anything really crazy if you can link it accurately? After all...."I do my homework." It's a good line for The Question, the hero who lacks powers, and definitely a budget like Batman....but his Detective skills can always rival Bats. The only reason he isn't smarter is because he sees ALL the small details, which can distract. That all said, JLU did a wonderful job throwing some bones to the less-popular heroes.

Fun fact the question and huntress episode was originally meant to be a birds of prey episode with batgirl, huntress and black canary teaming up in it. But the bat embargo of the 2000s meant batgirl couldn’t be in it and so it was changed to a question huntress team up (likely inspired by the comic batman/ huntress cry for blood) Edit: well damn. Should have watched the full video

"Her love is so great that she convinces a God to break into Hell to save her man." Loved this reference to the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice. I like this couple and Double Date is indeed one of my favorite episodes.

Gail Simone had her name on a lot of JLU episodes, from what I've heard she left most of the actual writing to ghost writers and other staff and just stuck her name on it

Man you made me smile and cry. This has been my ship in the whole serie and seeing this analysis was the best thing you could have done. They are still my favorite couple when it comes to superheroes and I dreamed to find someone who looks at me and tells me that I'm not the ugliest guy in their eyes. Also finding Question comcis had been a pain for me!

I went to a comic convention (Not sure if it was LA Comic con or San Diego comic con) one time. There was a marvel anniversary panel, they were announcing the guest speakers( no one very famous but they all got respectful claps) and when Gail Simone popped up it was silent. They had to reintroduce her a 2nd time and still no claps afterwards the guy with the mic asked the crowd to clap for her. They moved on eventually when they were able to get a 3rd of the crowd to applaud for her. Random but whenever Gail Simones name pops up I think of that awkward moment.

If Question and Huntress decide to get married, they will probably toss a coin. Heads, they will go to Chicago, and get married on The Jerry Springer Show, by Reverend Schoor. Tails, they will go to Las Vegas and get hitched in a wedding chapel, by an Ordained Elvis.

They are perfect example of great characterization with romance. Even though we only had one or two episodes with them together, each time made us as the viewers want to see more of them. It’s a shame we didn’t but I’m glad of what we got.
