YES to working at a restaurant! I’m a server/bartender now, and I’m about to go into graduate school in the fall of 2020. My classes will be during the day, so serving at night is perfect. I make great money CASH when I serve too. The tips are great, and I really loved your point about taking a break from children and school psychology things. Makes total sense. As always, love your videos!!

Hi Nic!! It's definitely not an easy job but it pays the bills! I've also met some great people when I was a server and continue to maintain those friendships. Thanks for your support!

I've been looking for a job the past few months because like you, I want more work experience before applying to grad school. But I haven't had the greatest luck finding something I'm interested in or that I have all the qualifications for. However, ABA technician sounds PERFECT! I get research experience and I can work with kids? Perfect combination of what I've been looking for. I'm dumbfounded I didn't think much of this occupation a while ago when I stumbled across a job posting for it. And I see sooo many job openings that offer the training for RBT and CPR certification so hopefully when this pandemic settles, I can I work in that field. Thank you! (PS -- I plan on applying to GMU as well and live in the Nova area too!)

Cute hair! I love it. I had been thinking about saving for a year or two for grad school and being able to work on the side while attending grad school hadn’t even come to mind. Very good ideas!

Thank you!! Although I'm busy with assignments, I only meet for class 4 times during the week. I usually have some free time to take up another hobby or find ways to make money!

Awesome ideas! I’m in undergrad and I’m a lead preschool teacher, it doesn’t pay great BUT I have gained tons of experience dealing with behaviors and LOTS of on the job training learning about the physical and mental development of children up to age 12. Also, the gain of creating a rapport with families and coworkers really made me want to do school psychology because I want to have a better understanding of the mental health and help those that struggle with learning.I’m so nervous because the schooling seems so long and daunting 😬 THANK YOU for these videos.

Thank you for the insight! Working at a preschool definitely gives you great experience with children AND behaviors. The journey is long but it's all worth it if you're passionate about mental health and children. You can do it!

You are too sweet! It's a long journey but I found that it's helpful to have many short-term goals within the big picture.

i totally agree that ABA can be overwhelming and it's definitely not for everyone, especially if you have other things going on. it sounds like you already have some good experience under your belt!

are you allowed to work as a therapist being just a grad student in US? In Europe you have to have a really long learning path before you are allowed to work as a therapist
@TiffanyLee3 жыл бұрын
it depends on what kind of therapy because certain types like ABA require less training than being a clinical psychologist, lcsw, etc.
