This brings back memories. I live in Toronto and got to meet the Gershmans at the Toronto Audio Video Entertainment Show (TAVES) at least two different years, perhaps 2014 and 2015. Both years Mr. Gershman was with his very lovely wife who was assisting. He was very keen about his innovations in speaker design. He was also a very keen observer of people's response to his speakers. Both years I got to hear his Black Swan tower speakers. Breath taking sound. His room typically had a very enrapt, hushed audience. I know because I kept returning to it! Well one of these times I got to hear on the Black Swans a singer I had never heard before : Eva Cassidy, and the song was Fields of Gold. Let's just say I was a teary mess, and I'm glad the lighting in the room was somewhat subdued lol. Thanks for the review!

Great review on the Studio 2 speakers. I'm interested in getting a pair, however you recomend pairing with an amp that can deliver lot more power than my Naim Unity Nova rating at 80 watts per chanel. Although, I believe Naim rates their amps differently, and perhaps relying more on the quality of delivery which Naim does so well. So....., what would be your thoughts? Is there another explanation, where we could say the Studio-2 speakers would perform well with the Naim Nova? Many thanks.

Thank you, thank you! I KNOW this sound you describe. Your take so accurately and acutely, mind you, defines my previous experiences with the "listening within" aspect of recorded musical consumption - pithily denied me for so long on my journey toward the finest recorded music implementations. A Natural sounding transducer, specifically engineered to require the least mental exersion toward it's material presence as an item reproducing a signal. Changed everything regarding what I felt even possible through audiophile pursuits. So compelling, so desirable and greedily coveted this sound is upon experiencing it over time that I immediately focused on my power upgrade path to maximize this mental euphoria it induces to all listeners at a core level. It tickles more neurons than any drug could. Your music listening becomes a craven delicacy, at once liberated and sublime. Buy.

Can’t quite get the S400s to do this like I can with my Graham’s LS6s - but the Grahams can’t thump like the S400s. Size is something I consider. I’ve watched other reviews on these speakers. I like that they use an 8 inch long excursion transducer. 6 ohm is ok but proves high current quality is key. Bass speed is an interesting observation on your part. So many 6.5 inch drivers on the market. Purify. Hi Vi research used in Totems forest. You can only move so much air in a 6.5 no matter how much quality. It would seem that these speakers could please a large spectrum of listeners. Thanks for your review. question Sean, do you think their bass speed would improve with a high current quality amplifier? I wonder when they are designing and listening to their loudspeaker designs what type of electronics they use ? That would be interesting to know what they feel is optimum for their designs? Not a lot of You tube videos of their speakers out there to check out. It may also be a type of speaker you should not buy if you don't have Bryston or some other power house Amp driving them. Some speakers improve dramatically with electronics which I think you were wise to point out. The Studio two sounds like a very balanced speaker based on your thoughts, would love to hear these among Gershman's other models. Finding a dealer is the harder part.
@ZeroFidelity4 жыл бұрын
You'll get better bass speed with 1) High quality, appropriate sized stands. 2) An amp that exhibits excellent damping factor. 3) An amp with a high-quality transformer also wont hurt. 4) Pull them out around 3-4 ft from a wall boundary.
@45billyva4 жыл бұрын
thanks, if you are a stander type that is not always sitting down to listen, can you get away with a little higher stand or would that change the speaker too much in it's presentation do you think when you were playing around with them?

@@45billyva If you are standing most of the time and move around a lot, then sure. The off-axis performance, which I forgot to comment on, is very good. I have heard DIs multiple occasions in my friend's house, but somehow even I like DIs they do not have toe tapping and musical engagement factor as Franco Serblin Accordo. But I've heard the many of people saying that Tekton Encore is much more musically engaging than DI or Moab. Therefore I would highly appreciate your review for Encore speakers. You should consider eliminating the semi-general undertone that x brands are y sounding. Example, most KEF are bright speakers. Not only is this over the top but it also underscores the on-point discussion of matching components that you are using. Qualify your statements...KEF et all can sound bright when paired with a neutral amp...also consider listening to X speaker brands latest offerings...most of those brands you named have brought their curves back down.

I totally believe in supporting the few brick and mortar stores we have left BUT the store I just brought some speakers from have spent over 3 weeks getting them to me. That ain't cool! That's a big reason why people started buying their gear online!

I wonder why they don't recess the tweeter.. Seems like it's similar to ATC bookshelf speakers. Would be interesting to compare them

Sounds like you have to sit in the sweet spot to enjoy the speakers. Personally I like to walk about and still enjoy my speakers.

I love acoustic suspension sound, but a little above my pay grade. Hey, you get what you pay for though.............

Will you review the Gershmans Avant Gardes? Yes, $15,000 but I really want to know whether these are the "best speakers" under $100,000. LOL!

Great review. They are out of my price range though. So it looks like its the Buchardt S400s for me. TY AG,

Dang you i can't get these speakers out of my head ! Looking for a speaker to match my incoming doge 10 , While the 10 is very airy a lil thin/ with good weight (Thomas) Guess i will just have to lay me dozen speakers to the test but dam that Gershmen is a sexy speaker and the dust cap tells me that the driver has one hell of voice coil ! ! I bet the lowend is solid ! And i love a soft dome to me its a safer speaker from being overly bright/mettalic thanks Sean !!! You make reviews look easy and its not easy ! I have to put hours and hours to capture the over all sound chacter lol
