The hood didn't come out the best due to wax still present. He is replacing the hood anyways so we didn't spend A LOT of time on fixing or correcting the hood. I know its not perfect the point was to show you how we prep/how good and glossy the new formula from Rustoleum is. The 2X Ultimate is the best shine for price paint. All hate comments will be deleted so don't waste your time. We will be putting the other hood on and will do a update.

Spray paint cans in Canada are $10-$15 each. And if you’re worried about imperfections, consider a semi gloss or a satin coat, they don’t highlight the little blemishes. Personally I’m all for the high gloss. I’d be proud and more excited for a DIY $100 paint job than a paying $3000 for one!

Yes and now in Canada some of the duplicolor spray cans are 21, 24 and the 1k high gloss clear is 38 dollars a can. The spray max 2k clear is also 38 dollars a can. Its ridiculous.

I've done a lot of repair jobs using spray paint on my cars over the years and people couldn't even tell It was repainted. I would typically use Dupli base color to match the original color and then apply the Dupli color lacquer clear on top of that. It always came out really shiny and clean looking.

I have owned a body shop and auto repair shop for 30 years. The rattle can work you do is great for the supplies you use NEVER be ashamed of quality automotive enthusiasm and what you do. The people who complain are only ones who use $80 000.00 downdraft paint booths and thousands of dollars of products and get a $20 job done. Keep up your great work even if it pisses off the Pros

Lots of fisheyes in the paint, need to dump the rattle cans in very warm bucket of water and let them get up to temp you will have much better results. prob with using cans is as you use them the aerosol cools the paint back down.

Very nice for canned paint. Good job guys. I have some older cars that I love but use as daily drivers and of course, have to keep them up. I typically use "the ten-foot" rule: if it looks good at ten feet, you're done - esp. with older cars that are not classics but you just want to make them look decent w/o spending huge sums of money. So when you drive by people in other cars or people standing on the sidewalk, the appearance is quite good to them - AND most people just don't even notice any flaws unless they're car buffs and walk up close and stare at the paint. I have done some panels and later wet-sanded, as you remarked, and it can look really spectacular with a wet-sand. Good job.

What a great job for how quick you prepped it. Amazing! Just shows you that anyone with time, patience and a little knowledge.. can do anything. My only suggestion really is to get the trigger gun attachment for the cans because I'm sure your fingers cramped up pushing down the spray button also because a lot of the attachments can spray out like a fan to make coating easier. One more thing.. If you put a gray or white basecoat down first there will always be less visible imperfections.. but since he getting new hood doesn't matter. Keep up the excellent videos. You're awesome.

You have inspired me to paint my project car with spray cans! Couples of questions.... 1) which colors are easier to work with? ( darker, or lighter) Want to use rust-oleum High Performance Enamel Spray Paint -Aluminum 2)what base primer do you use for bare metal section? 3) high gloss vs enamel? Durability? Finish? 4) Sanding only with 320 before painting or can I go higher and achieve better resultes? Thanks man! Truly a Spray Paint God!!
@JamesDguy
@JamesDguy 6 жыл бұрын
Gerardo Serrano I would go with gloss white ultimate from rest oleum. 320 is what I used to just kind a break to clear and smooth everything out you can go higher for better results but I have went 400 to 600 grit and the results came out just the same. I would get 10 cans instead of eight just in case you need more. And if you’re going to go ahead and spend the effort might as will get some 2K clear from spray Max. Type in spray Max clearcoat and you will thank me later

These paints can withstand 200 F degrees, an engine reaches maybe 300-400 on the block, and the engine bay is alot lower.

Very cool to watch. I can't believe you got that finish from a rattle can. Do a follow up vid after it's cut and polished? Wanna see in the sun. 😎

This looks REALLY nice. Quick question about the cans. I've heard that sitting them in warm water helps atomization. Have you tried that? I know you mentioned that cooler weather is best so was just wondering.

Hey I dont want to be that guy but didnt you lay the paint down pretty thick on the hood on the first coat? was that on purpose? Or should I just do the light coat first and lay it down thicker on the second and third coat you did an amazing job I just wanted to know I plan on painting my honda
@jnzed94

Follow the instructions. Light coat first. 2nd can be heavier.

Whatever happened to the before and after the fix from the trolls. I take it the trolls like to drive the before. If that what turns them on, keep on tracking 👣. And where is their before and after from them. Maybe they spend their $40 on chips and hot beer. Great job, dude👍

I did the same thing to my Hyundai Tiburon. As far as the black hood and top on a blue car . But I used a 2k clear coat afterwards and I love the way it looks. Way better than it looked with the chipped clear coat.

I tried to fix up the clear coat on my 07’ Mustang GT on the hood but because I live in AZ the ambient temperature even in a garage is enough to cause the tiger stripes. I’m honestly thinking about just getting a maaco paint job from their location in Vegas and getting their top package and paint match the body.

I think the mirrors would have looked better black also. Just a thought. But awesome job! You have boosted my confidence in trying stuff like this. I actually painted a lot with spray cans about twenty years ago when I was just out of high school and I couldn’t afford custom paint jobs on my motocross helmets so I decided to do it myself and got pretty good at it. Again awesome job!
