The Best Squirrel Catapult / Launcher

My latest squirrel catapult build. It took about 3 months to get it just right. I wanted to build one that is ultra lightweight, easy to transport, has a safety feature along with a more compact power supply that is easily chargeable.
The frame is all aluminum, I decided to scrap the tension spring system and went with an interchangeable elastic band which is a lot lighter and more versatile. The power supply is now a DeWalt battery made possible from seelite adapters which makes other brand battery adapters as well.
The new pull motor is an 80 RPM 12 volt that is activated by a momentary control box that is remote up to 200 feet.
I painted this one desert camo to blend in with the environment to look natural for the yard and the squirrels.
The base is still wood and the anchors are 12" solid steel drive in spikes that are easy to remove and tap in for more stability, control and accuracy. The spikes can be driven into gravel as well.
This is a 2 piece unit, so when going to a friend's house or camping you can enjoy the fun of squirrel slinging on the go. Just put some chips, nuts or any kind of snack in the launch basket, they will come. Deer feeder corn works best for timing and launches as they have to sit and munch opposed to nuts with shells to where they can grab and go quickly. They are smart, they will sit right outside the basket knowing you won't waste a good launch as they have to be in the basket.
Squirrels are stubborn, tough and destructive but also fun to just watch. So sometimes give the little critters a break and let them eat without sending them to the next zipcode every now and then.
The catapults purpose is to let them know who is boss.

One evening, while fishing in a gravel pit, I developed, (discovered?) a rat flinging technique. The line got a bit tangled, and while I sorted out the mess, I flipped the line behind me. When I got it sorted, I made a cast directly from where I had the line. I felt a weight on the line, heard a squeak, and saw a small shape flying through the evening sky followed by a splash. I gave up on the fishing as this was much more fun!

OKAY... WHAT THE HOMEOWNER DOESN'T KNOW IS THIS ATTRACTS MORE SQUIRRELS...... So, Squirrel #1 did this. He got his peanut and went for a ride. All while throwing his paws up in the air going "YEAAAAHHHHH!!! WEEEEE!!!!! Then, when he landed that squirrel went back and did that shit again!! Just the same as your favorite ride at a carnival or amusement park... you know... that one that you could ride over and over??... Yeah, that happened. Then, when that first squirrel had enough for that day, he went to his other buddy squirrels, probably at the local squirrel meeting they have every Thursday night and told them all about it. THEN WHAT????.... I'll tell ya... The next day, a half dozen of them showed up the next morning. It was around 9AM. They were a bunch of younger squirrels so they decided to, firstly "BLUNT UP" . Then they went to the homeowners garage fridge. You know... the one he keeps his beer in>... Then each of them grabbed a beer and one of them said to the other "HEY STEVE, HOLD MY BEER!" (Steve is one of the squirrels name) So Steve held his beer, that squirrel climbed up, grabbed a peanut because we ALL KNOW how well a peanut goes with free beer, right? So then he did his thing... yelling top of his little sqjuirrel lungs as he shot over the heads of all his squirrel buddies heads. They watched him fly over like we might watch an airplane fly low over us... looking straight ahead, upward, over us and then turned around quickly to see his distance. Well another squirrel got on his phone and called every squirrel he knew and told them to "get your ass over here! this is GREAT!!! " So, moral to this story... Don't build something someone will enjoy. Don't leave the garage side door unlocked so squirrels can get all your beer. Third... Tell the g'dam next door neighbors kid to keep his shit locked up.... Those squirrels were laughing all night long. keeping people awake while they were stoned and flying all night long.... Just words of advice to help anyone out here.... YOU'RE WELCOME!

I wouldn't do it if it hurt them. They are my squirrels. I feed them, A LOT. I have all kinds of special treats. I did my research on them before I even did my first launch. Once I found out a squirrel can literally fall out of an airplane at 30k feet and survive if it doesn't suffocate from lack of oxygen. It was a go.
