We have something tangentially similar in Argentina, called Tereré. It's basically yerba mate done the traditional way, in a gourd with metal straw, but instead of hot water using cold fruit juice, especially citrus.

Can you explain to me why we like mate so much? I often describe it as cigarette water and while it isn't accurate at all it's very accurate. Also Cub Mate is the way to go MioMio Mate is a good alternative and Lamate is just rubbish.

Highly recommend you make/try shrub. It's a fruity, sweet vinegar drink. Kinda tastes similar to kombucha. Definitely our new favorite summer drink.

Club maté is the most popular soft drink in parts of Germany. It is maté but it is not like how Brazilians or Argentinians have mate ime (flat, usually unsweetened, with the little gourd cup and filter straw)

Materva is a soda that's sold in the States, especially in areas with a Latino population. But it's fairly mild and very sweet. I prefer making my own because it's quite easy to make to one's own taste like you've shown.

Club Mate was the first brand in Germany selling a mate based soda. Many other brands followed. Some of them do less or now gas in it and use higher quality mate (brewed mate instead of a concentrate). My personal favourite: ChariTea Mate

I used 7 grams of citric acid powder for 200g of yerba mate. There's also a great recipe from 'My Name is Andong' that I tried, and it's comes close to club mate

"Mate tea" isn't a thing. It's just Yerba Mate. If it doesn't come from the Camellia Sinensis plant, it isn't considered tea. That grating misnomer aside, it's interesting to hear that Germany has a connection to Yerba Mate. This drink has it's roots in Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, and other South American areas.

It's not bad but unfortunately nothing like clubmate, at least when i tried your old recepie (with reduction) using classic Amanda yerba. It lacked this yerba aroma and cytrus was in my case overwhelming. You can try making terere with similar result

I guess even though some people said they can confirm ...
