as an engage support main in gold, despite these generally higher than average win rates I can't help but feel like engage supports just struggle in lower elo simply because you need a team with hands and eyes to actually follow up on anything you do. So many instances of me just inting because my adc didn't want to take the free kill i gave them because players just don't have confidence down here. it's so satisfying when your team is following you, but excruciating when they don't which is more often than the former. I feel like enchanters get free scaling til mid/late and mages just have bullshit amounts of agency because damage. it seems to not matter how hard I outplay my enemy support when I play engage. macro is virtually not existent, people dying for free make it hell to have any agency if games aren't already snowballing edit: awesome video btw! always really enjoy your takes. cheers man

That's totally fair, I agree that engagers get better with higher elo. The degree to which this is true is not huge but worth noting :)

Yes I probably wouldn't play those champions if I was in gold. I'm in emerald and people follow up if they think its a reasonable fight.

I have been maining Alistar as of the last two ish months and really learned a lot from him. I played around 70-80 norms until I felt comfortable bringing him into ranked. I haven't really played ranked except for season 4 where I was silver 4 and then season 2022 when I played only like 6 games, won half of them, got put bronze 3, and went back to flex with friends for the rest of that season. I say that because that made my first ranked game deep in iron a week or so ago. I lost it because our mid lane viktor fed the enemy talon 13 kills in lane and talon snowballed to 36-0 by the end of the game. Not really much I could do I think. The rest of my 9 games have all been wins so far. So I do think there is some merit to even playing an engage support like Ali with a piss poor lvl 1-2 and being able to somehow pull out wins. You just gotta know your roam timers, wave states, play around item spikes and level spikes (for both teams), ect.

Thanks coach. I've personally been having success with zilean in emerald recently. It's a struggle early but as long as we're not too far behind and there are a couple of bruisers to play around it feels really strong. I've been copying biotics build with the 3 kindlegem rush.

Base off what champs I enjoy most I think most of them are supports. But I’m silver currently and primarily have interest in Bard, Pyke, Renata, champs I probably shouldn’t get into much at this point in my journey I feel. I do find some enjoyment with Alistar, Leona and even Poppy. I’ve spent the last few weeks trying other roles and always end up itching to get in a support game. I think I’m answering the question for myself here.

I said Poppy supp was broke years ago. No one believed me. It was easier on the old rift with the closer walls. Bloodsong pushed her over the edge. Playing a support champ that can reliably 1v1 many junglers early game is nice. Ban a top laner or jungler and pick early in the draft to keep them guessing. Trust the otp.

@flowbie-1336 doesn't matter if it's a meta shift or not. Poppy has always been powerful in that lane even with low pickrate. As long as she's into engage it's a winning lane. It's powerful and just underplayed. Like Zilean and Taric (those champs are more broke tho). Powerful champs that no one plays. Without Bloodsong abuse I still think it would've remained sleeper OP and a niche pick like the last 2-5 years.

real - esp. due to the locket nerfs, zeke's seems like it'd be a lot more effective since it gives the same CDR and resistances for higher healthgain on top of making ults a tad more potent (all for the same price as locket too)

keep playing it but try some diversity if you rly wanna grind it Takes time to master but bard is probably the bestchamp to solocarry as supp

mute chat and trust yourself atleast if you make misstakes, they will be yours and not your teammates ones, so you can improve anyway adc is so usless, even MORE in low elo so no worries

It depends what your goals are. If you enjoy her then by all means, but you would have an easier time learning and improving through a different champion. The kiting and spacing is pretty brutal!

I also reallly enjoy playing alistar in diamond elo since its so easy to dive with him and ppl see those dive opportunities

I've been playing a decent amount of Rell recently and she is extremely powerful. I have a question though, why not go Zeke's first? It makes her ult so much more effective at keeping targets in place and offers pretty much the same stats as locket. I am low elo so I don't know why some things are the way they are but I always rush it and currently sitting at 80% wr across 15 games in ranked doing so. I know it's a small sample size but I feel so much better building it over locket

I didn't want to spend ages discussing build nuance with each champ in this video, but if you want to be tanky then locket is good, if you want to run around and kill then TB -> warmogs is good. Zekes can definitely work though, it's not the biggest deal.

I usually max w on rell, the only reason for me not to max it ,if I play vs counter match up like poppy, janna, ali etc. who easily can block my w engage. And also pretty nice if I am the only "tanky" frontliner, cuz it does give me bigger shield, doesnt it?

What do you think about Zilean support in lower elos? Is it a good pick?

Nah I wouldn't recommend maining Zilean, he's more of a niche counterpick. You may get away with it in lower elo's a bit more with everyone being worse but rather play something more consistent for your improvement

i would love to know what you think about rakan? right now i’m playing mostly rakan and rell in my high gold / low plat games. rell ill use for blind but i think rakan is much more fun. im doing pretty well with him, just wondering if you think it’s worth to keep working on my master of him in these lower elos.

@@pettitcarl I think Rakan is too hard to execute in low elo, and is outperformed in higher elos too even. I agree he is a lot of fun though

Lulu mention!! Almost as good as a full guide… Never seen the aggro build before, would wonder which lanes I could get away with doing it as… I’ve been playing Nami/Lulu in Emerald and have found that having them as my two champ pool feels pretty good… just not sure what I could add as a third pocket pick.
