Great video! The Compact is my favorite EDC knife, too. With only two layers it´s got everything I need. I love the nail file on the back of the hook. The Compact is the only Victorinox with this feature. But I even improved its capabilities by modding the scales. I opened the hidden third slot and shortened the toothpick to go in there. In the original toothpick slot I keep the FireFly ferro rod. The corkscrew holds some DIY spiral tinder plus the green mini Phillips screwdriver (by Victorinox). In the pin hole I store a needle like You do, but next to it I drilled a second pin hole for the original pin. Between the blade and the combo tool there´s a gap to hold a paperclip securely. And finally the hook houses a small round magnet (3 x 2 mm). In the keyring there´s my lanyard plus a safety pin. I want to give credit to Felix Immler; his KZbin channel offers a ton of tips.

The compact is very, well, compact and good for going around town, but I think consideration could also be given to the sportsman. It's a little bit shorter. If you don't have a pin hole in your scales behind the corkscrew it's easy to make one. I took off the scales then heated a needle up over a stove until it was glowing hot (holding it with pliers). Then I lightly pressed the needle into the position I'd marked on the inside of the scales. It melted a perfect pinhole. If there's any excess plastic where it was melted take it off with a utility knife and pop the scales back on. Now you have a pinhole. Worked for me.

Cool. I'm ordering the Compact and a Climber for my brother's birthday. The needle instead of buying the official pin is a great idea. I'm wondering whether a length of thread could be bailed up in such a way that it could be stored under the hook. Maybe in that way that a clothes rope comes, when you buy it but longer. It would take some time to tie it that way but, if it's possible, you would have it ready for little emergencies, for life. That's if you haven't a capsule or you don't want a lanyard. I plan on using a pocket clip with the Compact dangling inside my pocket, an easy thread needle and some invisible thread, if the idea works. PS, afterthought. If people can hand weave paracord into lanyards, I wonder if there is a way to hand weave, or tie, a load of thread (all looped round your hand first and stuff) to make a lanyard out of a couple of metres of thread??? Ha! I'm going to look into that.

Keep in mind as well in a oinch you have the paracord lanyard which can be taken apart into thread and used insteed of carrying the pill bottle. You coukd even create a lanyard where thread is somehow woven into the lanyard. You coukd even attach the button onto the landyard by running the thread through the button holes ir hole. That would eliminate the need for th pill bottle. Since youre not likely to need to sew a button all thr time it would only be in a pinch and so it would be worth taking apart the lanyard for it. A good example woukd be to hollow out the paracord and slide the thread into the outer paracord sleeve and then just tie the end to hold thr thread inside. Justan idea to play around with.

I have honestly never seen why so many people see the sissors as essensial. Are people cutting alot of papper? What else is it used for?
@urbanknifeguy Жыл бұрын
A lot of people think it is useful for Urban EDC - cutting paper, fingernails, thread and defusing bombs. For outdoors, mainly for fishing lines. I personally do not find them as essential as others do as well.

I wouldn’t buy a SAK without a pair of scissors. , most useful tool . I cut bandages to fit among other things

@@urbanknifeguy I picked up a Climber "Place To Be" ai would not want to modify it. Reminds me of living in Geneva as a teenager in the early 1980's. I am not sure where the original SAK my parents gave back then but the Climber brings back good memories.

I don't really understand the popularity of the Compact , for some strange reason it is very expensive compared to other Victorinox knives , just to save a few grams and have less functionality . Each to their own I suppose .
@urbanknifeguy10 ай бұрын
I agree it seems "unnecessary" expensive but I think the "compact" toolset makes it very appealing to most.

Everyday Carry.

You might want to use dental floss instead of white thread (stronger).
@urbanknifeguy Жыл бұрын
It is stronger! But I think for urban EDC, regular thread is ok. If not kevlar.
@robduncan59911 ай бұрын
I don't see the advantage? We all have our fav SAK ,however you sacrificed small pen blade and can opner to gat a less usable combo ? Sure you lost a few mm , but then added string /lanyard and a pill container defeating the pont of less mm width? Simply putting the pill container thing in your pocket separately would make more sense to me ? Personally i am ok without the scissors, although the scissors is very good . The small pen blade is a good alternative to the scissors, i also never need a saw . So a compact SAK for me that would do as well and batter in my opinion is a Spartan. Or if more compact the Tourist. Mod the can opener (see my video ) and you got a great true compact with 2 blsdes a can opner and 2 flat heads and a great small 2d Phillips. Obviously grind off the keyring it's just an annoyance. Just my tuppence worth. ps: i have the compact which i despise as it is far to compromised it sits in a drawer. Like i said we all have our favorites.

Compact compromise - I had one for a few weeks then sold on as it wasn't as useful as my Tinker 👍
@StarDarkAshes11 ай бұрын
You should also have a small neodymium ring magnet so that if you happen to drop your keys down a drain or some thing, you cannot only use the magnet but the string. If you have room in there, you might as well put one in there.
@urbanknifeguy11 ай бұрын
It is a good suggestion. For myself, this set up goes to my pocket at times and the magnet may mess up my phone and cards.

I can't help wondering why Americans have to make a song and dance out of the most basic functions in life. I just have a pocket knife in my pocket. I never get to the point where I have to label it as my "urban every day carry", nor do I have to set it up. It's just a pocket knife and it does ordinary pocket knife stuff.... No biggie. I never understood the "tactical", "survival" and "bushcraft" knives either. A knife is a knife. Jeeesus.
@urbanknifeguy11 ай бұрын
As a non-Americian, I do not know. But, one person's pocket knife is another's uber tacticool EDC set-up 🤣. One man's wallet is a EDC monetary concealment protection device.
