I was here for this live and it was something special. You know someone truly and genuinely loves the music and production when we in chat at one point collectively realize that Matthew locked in to the point to where he almost seemed to have forgotten that he was still live streaming, which to me is part of what made it special - because at that point yes it was music from the Digitone but (at the risk of sounding cheesy) it also became an opportunity to witness music being made from heart. It was also a once in a lifetime special for me particularly as it was my first time joining a livestream and participating in the chat and the surreal feeling of hearing a response in real-time to a question I asked in chat. Far exceeded expectations, all that from just being genuine. Thanks for sharing the music and music making process. You set a great example for how I might also make the leap from content consumer to content creator in the future.

This is exactly what I needed to hear. I edited out the Digitone 1 from my setup (I'm just using the DT, OT, and modular), and I miss it dearly ;( It's probably time to start saving 🤔 I wonder if Ess was a part of this one? That guy has a fascinating mind. All of fors FM's stuff is amazing btw (still trying to map opal to the one of the elektron boxes!)

Damn that's cool. This is the first synth without keys that I've ever wanted, although I'd still plug a midi controller into it haha. Still doing some research on it, but since I'm mostly into synthesis I'm really considering this before the Digitakt. Does it have retriggers? That's one of the things I'm really looking for to get into my glitch/IDM zone.

Would you say the Digitone 2 pairs well with the Model Cycles, or should I go for a Digitakt 2 as my second hardware synth? I'm very impressed by all the Digitone 2 can do. But it's still an FM based synth, so I'm not sure if it would be the best creative choice, if that makes sense.

Hey there amigo! Great video, you made me buy into the Digitone! I was wondering one thing, When i apply an LFO to a sound on the digitakt2 and whenever I play the sequance it sometimes sounds like the LFO doesnt start from the begining even if the wave is at the start or at '0'. Is there a way to negate this issue. Id like my percussion to sound the same every time. I thought you could maby help me resolve this.

" WTF-name another synthesizer that can beat that." And it could have been so much more for this "new" platform imo. More then one lame FX bus but OB will solve that. At least 32 voices. Virus TI2 had 96+ voices and an FX bus for each of its 16 parts in 2007. No sequencer like elektron though. With all that said I do love the DN2. Hoping elektron can really flesh it out with some cool stuff over time! Also MPC one/Force competes with this imo.

It's an awesome featured groovebox but I find it sounds too "clean" and almost sterile compared to something like syntakt, it even sounds different from the original digitone with the same patches, almost like it's darker and bassier. Really trying to like the sound but keep finding syntakt and DN1 more sonically exciting. Pretty sure I'm not imagining it but I will do a 1v1 comparison with DN1 anyways. Your track here sounds absolutely bomb though btw :D

I have to agree - I want to like it (I really like the feature set) but somehow it just sounds a bit thin & underwhelming. I like Ezbot's composition here, but sonically it still feels like it's missing some special sauce.

@boydw1 yeah it's really neutral sounding, it's a good tool to add very specific sounds to a mix but definitely needs some kind of post processing. I like to use the master distortion set between 4-6, seems to spice the sound up a bit along with the compressor. Also running it through tape or tube distortion on iPad (ie a plugin like fabfilter Saturn) seems to help a bit

@@Digiphex OP-XY is a groovebox, a $2300 one at that. The Digitone 2 is just a synthesizer. That was the topic here, if we are talking samplers I would argue Digitakt 2 is better than OP-XY, much better at sampling for sure. I have an OP-XY, it's very cool, but it's quite buggy and disorganized. Having a bunch of oddly implemented features doesn't mean it's a better tool imo. I love both machines, but I think the DN2 is the winner for the year, to me at least.
