I watched an Indian lady cook rice on TV and she put rice in a large saucepan (without washing it first), she put twice the amount of boiling water in the pan,. Brought it to a rapid boil, gave it a stir, put a lid on it. Turned the heat off and left it on the 'naughty step' for 15 mins. Perfect! Works every single time.

My missus sent me to an Indian cook school for my Birthday. They taught us to make rice perfectly. I wash the rice beforehand until the water runs clear. Put it in a pot and just cover with water. Stick the lid on and bring it to the boil. As soon as it boils, turn the heat down to it's lowest setting and leave it to steam until the water is gone. Perfect rice every time :) After watching this, I think I'll make my own Chinese curry from now on :)

I always buy this curry, it’s delicious and low in calories. I didn’t think the rice would work, but it looked perfect. I wash the rice before. Two cups of water to one cup of rice . Boil the water first, pop the rice in, stir once , bring it to the boil and lid on, turn the heat down as low as so just a flicker and don’t move the lid for 20 minutes. That how I’ve done it for years . Just shows there’s so many ways of cooking perfect rice. 😁👌 🍚 Your dinner looked absolutely lovely 😋❤
@paulhayden84672 жыл бұрын
do your rice in the microwave. its 2 parts water to 1 part rice. wash it, put it in a bowl , a teaspoon of veg oil and a pinch of salt. 15 minutes on high power and a quick stir every 5 minutes. take it out and leave it covered for another 5 minutes and you will have perfect rice. keep up the good work.

I agree with Robert on how to cook rice. My method which is quite similar is this, for a cup of Basmati rice, I first rinse it under warm water rubbing the grains between my fingers as though I'm rubbing shortening into flour to make pastry. Once the water runs clear, if I have time, I allow the rice to soak for about thirty minutes, then, as Robert suggests, I bring two cups of water to the boil and then turn the heat down to the lowest setting. The only other thing I would do, which is a personal preference, I would leave the curry until it is almost cooked before adding the onion as I prefer it to be still crisp when it is served. Must look to see if I can find that Chinese curry mix in Canada.

Here's a good rice recipe, all in the microwave. You can't go wrong, it's foolproof. 1 pint of boiling water - boil the kettle. 3/4 pint of Basmati Rice - measure it in a jug like you would liquid. 1.25 level teaspoons of salt 1 level teaspoon of Turmeric 4 Cloves 3 Bay Leaves A 2 inch stick of Cinnamon Measure your rice and then soak it in cold water for about 30 minutes. Drain it well in a sieve. Add it to a pot suitable for the microwave, that has a close fitting lid. Add the salt and spices to the pot of rice. Boil the kettle, measure out the pint of boiling water, pour into the pot, give it a quick stir with a fork. Fit the lid and cook it in the microwave on full power for 10 minutes. Remove from the microwave and remove the lid. Pull out the whole spices (cinnamon, cloves and bay leaf) which tend to rise to the top or near the top. You can ferret them out with a fork. Add a few small knobs of butter and stir in with the fork, breaking up the rice as you go and incorporating the melting butter throughout. Let it sit for 2 or 3 minutes and it's ready to serve. This makes a fair amount, easily three portions, probably four. You can of course halve the above recipe to make enough for two portions.
