What ails my job search? Obviously I can improve my cover letter writing & resume, but that’s a never ending curve. Still, I find conflicting advice about using a pic to put a face to a name, & yes to graphics done right, be plain nothing but just text only… Ails job searching? ATS software has to work against everyone right? It’s outdated garbage. Like a Gateway PC in the cow box, let it go. I’m pretty sure there are two main hindrances locally. One; some locals write job descriptions that detail working environments that are contradictory to employment law. A local company has work start times & days specific but wants to classify their employee as independent contractor, so they don’t have to give mileage for the requirement that you use your own vehicle to trek all over the region. Independent contractors only have deadlines not set hours in CA. This actually concerns me. A job that in its description would operate outside legal bounds so a cheap boss can stick it to someone ignorant or desperate & it’s posted & reposted… Two; near minimum wage positions that aren’t terribly dependent on an advanced skill set that’ll end up receiving a couple hundred applications but the employer reposts the job because no one was hired. Indeed gives an application submission ball park figure, I see many good jobs get 20 applicants. In a town this size where there requirement is have a high school diploma & know how to operate video conference software I find it hard to believe not one of 200 applicants couldn’t do that job. I also see horrible combo jobs like split shift bus driver & custodian in between those shifts kind of take two not great jobs & low ball wages position. Or local computer repair business has a list of required skills that might not exist in anyone here with a starting wage of $14.50 in CA. HA HA HA Secretary IT combo paying near minimum wage is another local favorite of mine. Some genius had the idea someone could do both by dividing their time, have tech skills but only commands a wage from a job simply answering a phone at the front desk. Locally there is a noticeable group of jobs that get a fresh repost every month or so, but the same long list of requirements & low pay never is revised. It’s obvious that almost every company that can’t find workers can only blame themselves. The amount of listings is large enough that to pay attention & look though all comprehensively takes some time in part because these never filled rolls keep the list artificially long. No oNe wAntS tO wORk ANymOre Translation; no more working for cheap a**holes anymore Employee reviews of employers usually with ratings are just beginning to have their effect on employment as a whole.

How do we adapt the first tip (eye contact with everyone) to the *virtual* panel interview (over Zoom, Teams etc.)? One can hold good eye contact with the camera (as opposed to the screen), but how do we go beyond that to making all everyone feel included in all answers?

Great questions! Eyes looking at the camera and use their names when asking questions.

Here's one for you. I'm cross trained in many areas. It didn't happen suddenly, it was over time. With a one page resume, and being fashioned for the job, how do I present this and finally stop the low-balling in pay? One other thing. How can you be overqualified and underqualified for the same job? How do you deal with that? You still walk away with no job.

Hello Andy - I have a second interview scheduled for the position of Sales Account Manager. The director of sales and the GM are participating. The focus will be on what I can bring to the company in terms of business and the potential revenue I can contribute. While I am willing to provide sales figures, I am hesitant to give the names of my customers. I am reluctant because of past negative experiences. I fear that if I disclose the names of my biggest customers, along with the revenue I generated from them and their expressed willingness to continue working with me on this new product, the company may use this information to directly connect with them without offering me a job. So, my dilemma is how to provide them with the required information while safeguarding my most valuable asset: my customers and connections. Do you have any suggestions for how I can satisfy their request for detailed information without giving away too much?

What's the best way to interact with every one on the panel when the interview is on zoom?
@andylacivita6 ай бұрын
Make references to them. It’s best to look through the camera which means eye contact with all of them. You don’t need to move your eyes. Call out their names.

I hope you still reply these questions. The moderator/chair of the panel. How do i address them in case i have a question for the current speaker? I dont know if its clear.

If you are not able to ask the speaker directly and need to address the moderator, I would address that person however they introduced themselves to you. Good luck!

What about if the panel interview is audio only? Would it be appropriate when answering a question to say the requestor's name? Example, "Thank you for your question, Brad"..etc

Hey Andy, great video. I've had two rounds of interviews with two different people. I asked them strong questions (including Andy's #1 question)! Next up is a four-person panel/presentation interview which will include the two folks I've already talked with. Do you recommend I ask the SAME questions during the panel, even though two people will have already heard them? I value all opinions, but wondering if repeating myself or not appearing original would be a strike against me. Thanks.

You don't want to ask the same people the same questions.

Andrew, I love your efforts and all that you do. Next week, Ive been invited to what appears to be a one day interview. Its five interviews. The first is two people for 30 minutes, then a different person for 30 minutes, ending with the hiring director. How should I approach this? Just lock in and address each person the same way? I came to this video thinking your thoughts and tactics in a panel interview would be similar but I'm not sure. What do you think?

Inclusivity can also sound like " How do you envision us working together to solve xyz?" Or...combine answers..."The way I see us working together to solve xyz is"... Especially if the interviewers are peer level. but have different roles. What do you say Andy?
