Don't believe what this person says, he keeps repeating the hoaxes he reads in his press. Spain has gone from 30th place in safety to 15th in just one year. It is a very safe country, but some fascists love to believe lies that are congruent with their desires.

Leaving apart our topic of "how different spanish regions are", you make me think of the things we spaniards share. And yes, you nailed it. My wife and I are planning a trip to Spain 🇪🇸 next year. We have been talking if we ever have to leave the United States 🇺🇸 Spain 🇪🇸 is our choice. Reasons the weather, the culture, the lifestyle, I’m Hispanic so Spanish would be easy for me to communicate in Spain. But the driving factor is we want more deep relationships because like you mention people in the US are always working and never have time for basic meetups or anything. Just to go out with coffee with a friend you have to plan weeks in advance. And I’m also getting very tired of the political divide hear from both sides

Pioneer and anyone thinking on moving to Barcelona: "The best of Barcelona lies outside the city". The beaches, mountains, woods, cool villages, absolutely everything is amazing outside Barcelona, if north of the city even better. You can enjoy the city (dinner, going out, work) if you live 30 Km. out of the city, but I recommend you to live outside it.

For the americans moving to Spain regarding the slow pace of living. It depends on the job you get here. Some of them are as stressfull as in any other place in the world. This girl maybe is working from home or as english teacher... An easy job, but normally you get Up 7:00 am an arrive home over 19:00 or 20:00 pm. Dont think you Will have so easy job as this girl because maybe you get wrong expectations. And forget about taking naps (siestas), thats for retired people and children. You Will be dissappointed if you work in construction, restaurants or consulting.

This may be true. Thank you for your added insight. It isn't wise to move your whole life based on the opinion of a single video from a girl on the internet. But, for context, I was working as a chef in the city (San Cugat & Barcelona) and a small town in Roses, Girona. Though labor intensive as any other place, the culture is embedded in taking breaks and the value of holidays and rest. Like anything, I speak from my experience and both generally, but there will always be exceptions to the rule.

Good video and I have been fortunate to stay in Barcelona on a few occasions but have not lived there yet. If I ever moved to Europe then Barcelona would be at the top of the list. The only thing on your list that I did not care for as much is the increase in dogs. Each time I have gone back there have been more dogs walking around on the concrete ground and peeing and worse pooping all over the place. From a health perspective having animals go into fresh food markets and restaurants is not ideal and in suburbs with grass= dogs make so much more sense. In major cities like NY or Barcelona or Rome it creates all kinds of unhealthy issues and people tripping over dog leashes on crowded streets.

I livd in a town in Wisconsin and life was slow pace..where do you live in Spain? In a little town? I don’t see that slow pace in Madrid or Barcelona..have you noticed that slow pace way of life in the rush hour in the metro Madrid? I don’t know how many Spanish people you know, we don’t eat the same thing everyday. You say in the States you eat something different everyday..do you cook all that food? If you mean you go to restaurants there are also international food in Spanish cities, again I don’t know where you live..in the town where I lived in Wisconsin I could eat food from different places all I had to do was drive for 30 minutes..if you live in a Spanish city and you are willing to drive for 30 minutes you can also eat food from different countries.
@PreciousPioneer
@PreciousPioneer Ай бұрын
I have lived in over 15 different states within the US, even more cities.I currently live in Dallas where there is over 30+ restaurant options within 5 miles. Also, I made a point only to say that a typical American grocery store will have everything you need to cook whatever dish you want . Spain doesn't have that level of diverse restaurants or even groceries to make food from other cultures. If you wanted to cook ramen or a Korean dish in Spain within your home, you have to go to an asian specific grocery store which is typically out of the way (20+ minutes depending) same for Indian food, Jamaican, Thai, Peruvian, etc. Limited ingredients are sold in everyday markets. None are sold in small towns in Spain. If you choose to eat outside, there may be 1-2 options of each culture's cuisine, if that. When I say Spanish people eat the same food, many Spanish restaurants offer the same items served a different way. Ex: paella/rice dish, octopus, patatas bravas, tortilla, escalivadas, sandwiches... and other similar items. Wisconsin may be the exception to the rule, but I'm referring to the rule. Culturally Spain does have a more chill, wholesome way of living because they are different from American values. Though, I can't speak for every single city in Spain, I have lived in both Barcelona (big city) and Roses (small town) Spain and can stand by what I've said to be true.

Sounds like a positive experience for a black person living there. I hate to say that, but I just read about the racist attacks on him. He is from Brazil. He plays for Real Madrid and was in the stadium in Valencia when the other team's fans carried on with racist comments. How do you feel as a black person in that society? I really want to know because I felt so sad about what happened to him. There is am American blogger in Valencia that promotes that area. However, she looks and speaks more like she could be passed for a Spaniard. So she may not have those experiences.

I’m not too clear on what you’re talking about. But I feel like being black in Barcelona is fine. There’s no sense of real danger like there is in the US sometimes. But there is subtle racism through micro aggressions and biases. Like sometimes uncomfy, but not threatening.

Es una equivocación muy frecuente. Confundir racismo con insulto. España no es racista, pero insulta muy bien. Y estos hooligans del fútbol atacan con lo que más duele para distraer al contrario. It is a very common mistake. Confusing racism with insult. Spain is not racist, but it insults very well. And these football hooligans attack with what hurts the most to distract the opponent.
@AlexGarcia-us9yg

You definitely are going to find racist in Spain too, like in every country. The thing with Vini Jr. is a bit different ( would I say). It's like this in Spanish football, the fans of the opposite team insult the players to distract them and take them out of the game. There is another former player of Barcelona (Pique, he is "white") and the fans of opposing teams insulted his wife and their kids. It's not nice, but they use it like a psychological tactic I would say.

@PreciousPioneer
@PreciousPioneer Жыл бұрын
I found the main government website helpful. It can be pretty complicated, but it's best to have at least two copies of everything saved in files online. But, if I remember correctly, you need international medical insurance with a $ liability #, medical records that show you have all of your shots, an FBI background check, two passport photos, proof of income, I think at least $600 a month, or have a parent sign a waiver as proof that they'll support you, proof of your internship with documents on their end claiming you, documents on their end that validate the period you need to stay in Spain... and a couple of other things. It's a lot! But, if you plan a few months before, it's easier to break it into chunks. But, def check the Spanish gov website for exact details.

Slight nitpick: You said you were "American." The truth is, "America" isn't a country, it's a region (North+South America are America). You and I are from the United States. We're US Americans. Very interesting video!
@PreciousPioneer
@PreciousPioneer Жыл бұрын
lol I said I’m American because it’s colloquial vocabulary. Though you’re technically correct I have yet to meet anyone who says, “I’m United States American”… considering other countries can reference the continent North, South, and Central America and their corresponding country for geological reference. In short we can say American and people can generally understand United States. Language is about understanding and communicating, not always about text book definitions. Hence why everyone speaks differently and no one talks like Siri… though Siri’s perfect grammar is technically correct. But, thanks for watching and leaving your comment ✨😄

@@PreciousPioneer Totally valid. I call myself a US American, so now you have met at least one person who does so. "We" do understand "American" to mean "United States" because of our own inherent eurocentrism (or perhaps "US-centricism" as it were) but it doesn't make it any more ok or less invalidating to the hundreds of millions of original citizens of the whole of the Americas, including lower North America, Central America, and South America. You're right. Language is about communicating. It's also about being representative and fair to everybody. The point of this comment isn't to be snarky, pedantic, or accusatory. I didn't care about stuff like this even as recently as a few years ago, but it's worth pointing out

Congratulations, very good video, well explained, honest and passionate, I love to see that you really feel happy with us. I was born in Barcelona, like my entire family and I lived until I moved to the Costa Brava. Barcelona is no longer the wonder it was in the last century but it still has flavor. I don't know if you still live here, if so I will tell you that I have always heard that you can go anywhere in the world but you will never live as freely and well as in Spain. I love being a good cicerone, you can contact me if you need anything. Kisses from the bay of Roses.❤❤

I am half american/spanish and lived in both all my life, unfortunately the US has exported that way of life to all western society and boy does this spain suck! it still has things but it is loosing its community like crazy, food is becoming more and more overprocesed and I know it is better than the US at this moment and still universal healthcare... but Europe is becoming the US but with different scenery and adoptin the bad part of it 😒

It is true that we work to live and not live to work. But do not think that this is a country of lazy people, here we work and work hard. That a country can afford to provide services to 82 million tourists plus 50 million nationals, at the same time, is not achieved by taking a siesta. Being the second country in Europe in the manufacture of tourist vehicles, leaders in green energy, having a first-rate agro-food industry and an important pharmaceutical industry, is not achieved by drinking beers. But if at 6 in the afternoon, we are drinking beers with friends or family, it means that we have worked enough to be able to pay for them and dedicate the rest of the day to what is important. Which is living.
@PreciousPioneer
@PreciousPioneer Күн бұрын
I agree, please do not mistake my commentary for "lazy." There's a beautiful nuance between when to work and when to rest. Such a concept doesn't exist in the West. It's a "culture shock" only because in the US, work is the center of our lives to no end. There is never a sense of enough... and it's often stressful. Spain was a nice change of pace that showed that there was another way to live. One where there is balance for family, friends, and joy.

Black people are treated pretty normally in Spain, based on my experience. It's mostly because they perceive us as more American than "black". It's an odd-spoken privilege because you can see African counterparts treated differently. There will always be microaggressions and those are always uncomfortable, but nothing more than you would experience in the US
