The island was named Rhode Island by Roger Williams, who was one of the first English settlers in the area. Williams named the island after the Greek island of Rhodes, which he admired for its religious tolerance.

Thames St is pronounced (thaims) not (tems). And the car museum is pronounced (au drain). And the island that Newport is on is pronounced (a quid nik)

@@alewolf7 Portsmouth and Middletown are both in Newport County, try those Towns first before trying to find something in Newport, Middletown has better schools.

Newport has been a regular summer trip since the early 70’s! It can not be beat as a wonderful destination! And the food…fantastic!! We found THE best accommodation with fabulous views…it will remain our secret tho”😊

Too much military and Scientology here. Corrupt police, Oracle and Leno pay them off. Getting worse. Good history, nice seaside town but overrun with bad elements now.

@@SKing1691 I live here. Never seen any scientology, the Navy being here is great and the police are excellent. And Leno and Osborne (not Oracle (shows what this guy knows) pay off no one and are a big plus to the town. We, like everyone, have a few local types but we aren't overrun by any means.
