note older books often have signatures in the back, particularly limited eds.

So, I did not believe you could find signed books at a thrift shop in just an hour, so I tried it today. I found 3 signed books!! I really could not believe it, but it’s true! Question: 2 of them had “To xxxx, best wishes”. Does a autograph dedicated to someone else affect the resale price? The best one is from Catherine Coulter, book Whiplash. So, the professor is 100% correct! Check those books!

Thank you for sharing the sites you research for niches and collectibles. I love cufflinks. So much history, craftmanship, imagination, and inspiration. My dad had cufflinks from working with Apollo 11. I never knew he was that cool lol. But that's when I fell in love and fascination with cufflinks.

I found several autographed hardcover books at Dollar Tree of all places! For some reason my local DT, keeps their books right near the children's coloring books, because of that, I imagine, some customers probably pass by their book section. One title I found was by Anne Rice, the other books with autographs were signed by young adult authors, I wasn't familiar with them, I didn't purchase those books. I did purchase the two Anne Rice books which were autographed.

Thanks for the tip on the autographed books. I can not wait to try this out. I wonder if it will work as well in my town as compared to bigger cities. I think it’s worth a shot since EVERYONE and their mother are moving here and there is always a ton of books. 🤓

Good call on looking for signed books, best I’ve found in thrifts signed, a special edition signed Bill Wyman autobiography, a Ken Kesey audiobook on tape- still sold for over $100, and an Eleanor Coppola hearts of darkness, kept the last one. I still find some obscure psych records at thrifts once in a while, stuff most record resellers might miss.

I found a few authographed books at the thrift including a book signed with a doodle by John Howe (Lord of the Ring illustator). I was so happy lollll made my day... I am keeping it :) I love Anne Rice and Stephen King. LUCKY YOU!!!! First edition signed, 🤩🤩🤩 I am in France so would never be able to find Anne Rice signed books, that would be a massive treasure for me and I would not sell haha You're lucky to be American, most influencial cultural place in the Western world, you have access to the great stuff. Plus Americans are great collectors and love amtiques it seems

I have had a lot of luck shopping at my local Goodwill Outlet. They sell most items by the pound. I can fill an entire grocery cart with electronics, household items, purses, etc., and I mean FILL, for less than $20. They have locations in almost every state in the U.S. It's worth the drive if you don't have a location close to you. Mostly everything is in bins, so be prepared to dig a little bit, and wear gloves if you can. The best time to go is in the morning, because they do most of their restocking at night. They do put out new stock all throughout the day, as well, so if you see someone that just came out of the warehouse with a cart full of "fresh items," follow behind them so you can snag anything good before anyone else see them. FYI...People can be a little aggressive sometimes. I found these prices online, but I haven't gone in a while, so I can't confirm that these are the current prices. Priced per pound: Electronics - $0.69 per pound Glassware - $0.69 per pound Home Goods/Clothing/Textiles under 25 lbs.- $1.59 per pound Home Goods/Clothing/Textiles over 25 lbs. - $1.29 per pound Shoes & Purses under 25 lbs. - $1.59 per pound Shoes & Purses over 25 lbs. - $1.29 per pound Priced per Unit: DVDs & CDs - $1, Albums - $1, VHS Tapes - $1 Computer Games - $1, Books: Hardcover & Paperback - $1 Priced Individually: Bikes and Oversized Items

I know of one author in particular that if you find a hardcover edition, signed or not, you can't lose buying at thrift stores. I bought a lesser known Hunter S. Thompson first edition for 50 cents, bought it because I love his writing. I sold it for over $70, and it was not signed. My holy grail is to find an autographed Hunter S. Thompson but I won't hold my breath. He didn't seem like the kind of guy who would have sat in a bookstore to sign books.

I stumbled into selling classical CDs. I find them at the bins usually. I buy them 25 cents and some sell for $15-$20. I'll take it! I'll keep an eye out for the classical vinyl.

Hey Don, maybe a stupid question but do you worry about the authenticity of the autograph in a book? I’d be worried about listing an autograph ad authentic when I’m no expert on it. I’m sure you could see other listings for authentic autographs of the same author to compare but that doesn’t authenticate it. Just wondered how this is addressed when it comes to signed books. Thanks for the videos, I’m learning so much from you. I’ve found, at a Goodwill, two paperback Hells Angel books by Sonny Barger, the infamous leader for many years, that are both signed by him. Maybe not valuable but infamously cool for the collection.

eBay's losing money due to the incompetence of eBay management, the losing money has spread down to us small sellers big time. They need to take the site back to 3 or 4 years and bring back PayPal, people used to love that the money was put into PayPal and buy with the money in PayPal on the site. Buyers were lots of the sellers that used to be on eBay, and simply are refusing to come back to buy things off eBay, management is simply to blame for all the problems they have caused. The only problem is that it affects sellers really badly with a lack of buyers now on eBay. I was always selling 6 to 7 items every single month since 2008 & I was very happy as a small private seller, now selling is non-existent with my last sale on 9th July. Thank you Don for the interesting video. Charles in the UK

I bought a Victor Borge book a while back... The listing was that someone scribbled on the title page and I bought it for $1 plus $2.99 shipping... I knew this scribble from a while back when I was appraising autographs... It was the real Borge... I'm keeping this one and selling the one I bought just to replace the torn cover... I have six signed autobiographies in my collection...five British TV stars and a great Dane (Borge)...all no longer with us...

I found out Christmas music sells fairly well...almost as well as Classical/Opera... I did find my holy grail of the Bach Christmas Oratorio...a 1958 pressing by Kurt Thomas that barely made it out of Berlin along with the entire orchestra and conductor were lucky to have escaped with their lives during the Berlin Crisis...

I can see if you bought books in bulk, but... I tried looking at books for resale a few years back. The amount of time it takes to look them up was not worth what most books are worth, whether vintage or more recent. I garbage-picked an early Hemingway edition, and that wasn't even worth more than a few bucks. It's needle-in-a-haystack stuff that I don't have time for. Although...in trying to figure out how to zero in on the most valuable books... Looking up what has sold recently, as in what people are looking for at the moment, would help. For instance, Abebooks does a regular list of highest dollar books that have sold. But overall, I spent some days many hours trying to go through books at my local thrift and used bookstores, and it seemed to be a big waste of time for what most books sell for, even ones I "thought" were sought after.
