That mount is known to wear the door hindges on the GX470. Its too much weight for that door.

I've had mine on for 2 years with a 33 inch tire and gas cans attached to that with zero issues. No cracks, no weird closing issues, or squeaks while off-road.

Great for light offroading or mall crawling. Id be careful though hitting departure angles and sheering it off dragging the spare across a rock or something.

They make shims for the hinges to take the added pressure off.

Really like my JW carrier. Although I wouldn't mind getting a swing out carrier in the future. Currently have 33s mounted but if doing seriously rack crawling or mud I'd unmount my tire and put it on my roof rack so it doesn't cut too much wear. Ps: I'm on my mom's account lmao

Really guys the JW spare tire carrier is the worst tire carrier on the market, just wait until your door starts to sag so amuch its a job to shut your door and you will really enjoy the squeaks you get while driving, I couldn't give mine away. Find and endorse something that really works. This was on my 2009 GX 470 with 315 70X17 tires with Method wheels.

I have the exact same GX. Which angle neck did you buy? Straight or 8 degree angle? I'm assuming you chose the texture black color

Where did you get the paper template for the holes? I can't find it on their website or yours. Thanks. Great video. Can't wait to try installing my new tire carrier. Although we've already changed out the back bumper and ccut part of the4 frame, so not totally sure how we're going to mount the strike plate.

I'm having an EXTRA gas tank put in the wheel well where the spare usually goes- and the two hooked as one to give me 56 gallon capacity instead of 23-- which will give me about 800 mile driving range before filling up again.. (and an armor plate to go OVER the tank as extra protection against puncture.) BUT I prefer a RIGID trailer hitch mounted tire swing. Better visibility- and the offroading isn't effected-- as i don't do rock crawling etc. anyway.

They are very strong metal hinges. We have not had a problem at all.

Easily not the best tire carrier for a GX. The rear door wasnt designed to carry a tire. If you want to carry an full 35" spare. In the back on or a roof rack. Your rear hatch is not the answer.

@@vw2vtec funny how it's from the factory and designed for a stock tire size. The gx470 isnt a prado. Its based off the prado/4 runner. How dense are you? Putting a 45lb+ tire on the dx rear hatch will eventually make the door sag and cause closing issues.

Pretty dense apparently. They have shims for the hinges and the tongue that mounts to the body aides with the weight. You don’t have to buy one. Some people like to open a swing out every single time they need into their gate, the rest of us went with a gate mount. Cheers mate.

@@j.p.3972 again, JW sells shims for the hinges, and there’s a tongue in the jamb that assists with closing. It’s far from perfect, but it works for most everyone that buys it….or they wouldn’t sell any.
