I bought my Oxo tongs in 1998 or 1999. They’re still going strong, actually they look as good as the silicone grip ones I bought a year or two ago (to use in nonstick pans). I just love them and use them all the time. They’re just designed perfectly and they are great when you have joint problems (I have autoimmune arthritis as well as EDS), well designed, good grip, not too tight etc. What a fab product! 👏👏👏😊

I'm cheap. I bought a pair of tongs from a "Dollarama" store for a couple dollars. I was trying to pick up a roast and they slipped off. The edge of the tongs cut into my palm and drew blood. I went out next thing and brought a proper pair.

I use the StarPack silicone tongs because I've got nonstick pans, and I was even able to lift a mug of water by the handle with minimal slipping with them. They can pick up toothpicks too. I generally prefer silicone tongs to metal ones, and they are right that a scalloped edge is the way to go. They defintiely should have had metal tongs and silicone ones in seperate catagories though.

I bought a pair of tongs that got replaced for two reasons. The silicone tips were bulky and if I held them near the hinge to avoid heat, I pinched myself because there was no gap when closed. Replaced with stainless steel tongs from a restaurant supply store in town.

I agree. I actually found a Oxo knock-off which is a lot longer on aliexpress to use with my new Weber grill! It has the same grip (only slightly different material, not 100% as comfy) and scalloped tip, which is super important for control (gives you precise control for small and large things!).Otherwise I like the Oxo ones the most. I wish they had made a mini one too and a long one for grilling! 😊

@@seikibrian8641 - I just have the 9’’ ones (silicone and metal tips), haven’t seen the longer ones here in Norway (I got the first one in the US and the second one on Amazon, I think, before their Int’l shipping got as expensive as it is now). The one I got for use on the grill, is a copy of OXO, 34cm (13.5’’) and cost me $3.10(!) plus a few cents for shipping (item #4000741143180 @ aliexpress dot com, they have two other sizes too). ☺️ The downside of it is that the grip piece is made of a harder, more plasticky material (silicone is more soft and lovely!), and the lock piece is metal only (no silicone, which isn’t as nice for locking/pulling with your teeth, as so many of us do), but the rest of it really seems decent, the tip is just like the OXO, nice & scalloped, which is important. The hinge/mechanism does seem a bit less sturdy though so it will probably not last as long as an OXO. I must admit, I love my OXO’s so much, if I stumble over the long one you’re mentioning, I might just get it... Thanks for letting me know that they now also have long ones! I may not be able to resist if I see them! ☺️ Such great tools really makes a difference, especially so when you have joint problems, which I do. That was why I started buying OXO products when visiting the US for the first time back in 1998 (couldn’t find it in Norway then), back when it was called OXO Good Grips, because their things were (are) so well designed ergonomically. I would have loved a 6’’-7’’ OXO too, sometimes I really want little tongs! I actually just bought a Fissman brand little 7’’ one with a silicone tip to replace a 7’’ OXO knockoff which should have a silicone tip (according to the ad), but when I got it, the tip was plastic, only the grip piece was silicone. 😒Otherwise it is good quality though (looks just like OXOs). But I was really disappointed with the Fissman. It has beautiful silicone on the tip, but I hate the closing mechanism (a metal rectangular «ring» to move up/down) and when it arrived, the very tip didn’t match (was bent), so it couldn’t grip precisely. I had to bend it to correct it and when I did, it suddenly bent totally out of shape, even if I didn’t use much force. Obviously the metal is way too thin - the quality is much more poor than what I expected at the price paid (luckily I at least was able to bend it again, so it grips precisely, but I don’t feel 100% secure using it when I know it is that flimsy). Oh well, about time I get off this soap box, LOL - love a good pair of tongs (or 5!) in the kitchen!

The Oxo tongs are great--I have multiple pairs. The one flaw I see is that they can't be locked closed with one hand. (I usually pull the tab with my mouth).

That's my complaint, too. If Adam isn't smarter than a pair of tongs.... Point down, squeeze: open, point up, squeeze: closed. I mean, really?! How hard is that?! I much prefer one-hand use. One hand has tongs in it, the other, coated in batter or oil or god knows what and I have to use that to operate the tongs? No thanks! (and, no, I don't want to put that thing in my mouth, thanks.)

I've had (and used (and purchased as presants)) multiple Rösle tongs, and they've always worked flawlessly -- mechanism and grip. Also, they're a breeze to clean compared to the OXOs. OXOs have detachable silicone/rubber grippy parts that need removal for proper cleaning, which seriously lowers their mark after a while, but AMT gives the brand a win in EVERY test they're in, so why am I still writing this com--

I’m curious why the slide ring lock type was not mentioned? Those are a must in my kitchen. I’m an avid cook, have worked in the restaurant industry and I would never use or purchase the pull tab lock mechanism if I didn’t have to. With the slide ring, it’s one handed to lock and unlock. You simply squeeze the tongs and tilt them to slide it to your desired open or closed position. Super fast AND one handed. The pull tab, may be one handed to open, but not to close back up. They drive me nuts

If the pull tab is rubber-coated or otherwise grippy, you can slide it against your clothing to "pull" it locked.

Really you should have a metal pair and a plastic pair. Tongs are so useful that even if you don't often need the plastic ones for nonstick they're still nice as a backup.

A metal one with silicone tip is my favorite for nonstick. I have the OXO one with silicone tip and the metal ones in this test. Both are super and gives a control I haven’t been able to get with other tongs. The scalloped tips are a must, they give perfect grip and control for small and large food items. 😊

Best tongs for the money, 2 pack, one 9in and one 12in, $3.98 at Samsclub. Look almost exactly like the Oxo except no locking mechanism. I personally don't mind that but if you do you could alway use a heavy rubber band

Have used OXO tongs for years and my complaints are the design at the pivot can, and has I might add, pinch your hand if you aren’t careful. Also I have a longer version of these and when placed in my drawer they slide around when the drawer is opened and close along with everything else stored there. This motion tripped the locking mechanism on the tongs and they opened inside the drawer which blocked the drawer to only open a few inches. Managed to work them down and got the drawer opened after a few minutes.

My tongs have this ring locking mechanism that goes around the outside and slides up and down to lock. I hate them so much and they're always locking when I point them down trying to pick stuff up and then I can't let go! I wish they had a pair of these to show how bad they are. I guess it's time to upgrade.

I have a pair with the ring locking mechanism and I love them. I hold them so that my hand stops the ring from moving, and I can lock and unlock them with the same hand I am using to hold the tongs. No hitting the end on my hip or using my other hand to pull the tab out to unlock them.

Hmm NOPE.. I'm calling BS on this one.. I've got those "Gravity locking" tongs and it doesn't take a rocket scientist to lock/unlock them the way they're illustrating it in the video LOL. They're SUPER easy to use. When you're ready to use, flip so the tongs are facing the food , squeeze once and they automatically unlock. If you want to lock them, squeeze, flip upside down and let go.. They're locked. It's also a 1-step operation versus all the other tongs that are 2 step. Imagine how many times you have to flip the food, let it sit, put the tongs down. Then after you wait, you pick up the tongs again etc etc. That's a lot of locking and unlocking you have to do with two hands LOL. The gravity tongs (The brand they have and I use is Rosle), it's a hulluvalot faster lol. And they're not hard to squeeze, they're over-exaggerating in the video. Or I'm just SUPERRRR strong, which I doubt.

I have both and use the silicone for nonstick, even if I don’t use nonstick much anymore, I usually use carbon steel, cast iron (enamelled) or stainless steel (seasoned just like the carbon steel, watched videos on YT on how to do it).
