I bought the mutant after watching your video. I like that you actually showed footage of using the shoes to traverse the terrain I was interested in getting the shoes for. All the other reviews I found just talk or write about the shoe, which wasn't really confidence inspiring when I'm looking to buy something to keep me from falling on my face. Thanks.

This video was so helpful and a real stand-out among these types of videos. You're the only person I've seen so far (after days of searching) who actually shows how the shoes perform on a VARIETY of terrain, so thank you for that!!

I purchased the mutants 3 weeks ago on the back of watching this excellent video review. I've worn them twice now up on Dartmoor of which I live on the edge of. Usually a road runner but wanting to get into trail running. The two times of wearing the mutants and running 2-3 miles on dartmoor, I must say, I'm impressed. Superb grip, very snug fit. Lace system takes some getting use to but once adjusted to my liking the shoes feel secure on foot. I'm really looking forward to getting in to trail running. I think the mutants will be up for the tasks of Dartmoors trails.

What a fantastic review you’ve tried them on all surfaces that are relevant to me with so many pairs of shoes in such a short space of time well done I really like the way you edit and the way that you speak to the audience keep up the great work I’ve subscribed take care and stay safe kind regards nik

You should’ve tested the non ST version. I’m in Kauai and the Saucony Peregrine 10s are fantastic on everything from thick slippery mud to wet rock.
@Fullloafofbread Жыл бұрын
I have both version of peregrine and the ST are by far the best on everything. Wouldn’t have much confidence on wet rock or ice but they are brilliant in muck. I’ll have to try the inov8 now

Great video, great content! Thanks for providing information about this topic that is not easy to find elsewhere. I hope you will make an update to the video when other models are available! Personally, I find the wet rock grip test most interesting because this is not easy information to interpret from the lug pattern. Thanks again!

Thank you for great review , I’m doing a Kokoda trek in humid and rainy PNG over 10 days and looking potentially at a trail shoe and away from boots or hikers as it’s warm there , so much appreciated for your review and the insights provided . Rob

Thank you so much for making this video! I had just ordered a pair of the Peregrine ST’s before watching this…sending them back and ordered some Mutants instead! You have saved me finding out the hard way, with a lot of my local terrain being rocks which are more than often wet and slippy! Excited for the mutants to turn up now!

Hi Guy. Thanks for the comment, great to hear the video was useful for you. I've still got my Mutants and still stand by what I said in the video. I have since tested out the standard Peregrines (the 11 model) and I wasn't impressed with them. Grip was OK but I had major issues with the insole - it kept trying to escape from the shoe! Will

Do you have a video for grip on wet rocks or something. I need shoes that i can wear while on the jetty rocks.

I should have searched for this before buying the SG5. Great shoes, but there is a lot of wet rock round here, and I don't feel really confident blasting down hill with them. Will have to give the La Sportiva a try next time.

Just catching this now but since you didn't test the Scott Supertrak RC2s, you did not test the best for wet clay mud, etc. The wide spaced tread that encircles the circle that is at the ball of your foot. They do not load up with mud like other trail shoes with deep lugs do. I do not worry about life as I want great traction action. That is all that matters. If fall and get hurt, you won't need to worry about tread life. It will be great as you won't be running. LOL. These have at least been the best I've found. I always laugh when I see the Solomon slips that I always see during trail races. They stick like Velcro on most surfaces. Check them! I'd like to see your review of these. Make sure you get the Scotts with the circular tread, not the newer ones with straight across tread. RUN ON! 👍🏼

Been a while since I’ve seen this video and I wanted to say thank you for the advice on the Mutants ,. I’ve put over 1,200 miles or more in them and I cant say enough about how they are perrrfect for Hawaiian mountain runs ,. The grip on the rocks is unmatched ., I do love the Mudclaws tho during the heavy rains when the hills are straight deathly ,, but when it’s 50/50 dry / wet trail ,, The Mutants are the winners ! Just like you said

Thanks for the real test in the field! Once again I was convinced with the choice of sneakers. Help determine the size of the mutants. My sneaker size is 10.5 US 9.5 UK (Asics Gt-1000, Brooks Caldera 3). Reviews say to choose mutants 1-1.5 sizes larger. Which one should you choose?
@OutdoorsMagicTV3 жыл бұрын
Hi. I've since come to find that I could probably do with a half size bigger than my usual size. I'm normally a 10 and have done a lot of running in my size 10 Mutants but I do suspect I'd be even more comfortable in 10.5. If you go with your usual size, I'd say you can expect a close fit that brings precision but not much space for splaying. Will

Hi, Thanks for your excellent review. I'm looking to get back into running after a year or so out. I'm wanting to come away from road running and do more trail running. I live on the edge of dartmoor and so it is a superb place to do. The La sportiva mutant you have rated highly, are they good for wide feet? I've read some reviews that state they are narrow fitting. I've not got hugely wide feet but they are not great with narrow footwear. Your advice would be appreciated. John C

Great review. I had a really hard time finding a video review that shows the La Sportiva MUTANTS and the other brands. I would note the fitting on the Mutants, my everyday shoe size is a size 11, I typically go up to a size 11 1/2 for most of my trail or running shoes, but I had to go to a size 12 both of my big toe nails are black and blue, didn't get a chance to break them in and the first time I wore them I did 25+ miles 9800 eg. California San Gabriel Mountains. Other than them being a little too small, I felt pretty confident on descent even off trail.
@OutdoorsMagicTV3 жыл бұрын
Hi Jason. Having spent more time testing the Mutants now I'd agree with you there. I took them on a multi-day run a few months ago and my toes were pretty sore so, while I do love my pair, I think a half size up would serve me even better. Will

Hi, i've signed up for the "Olympus Vertical" (VK) on actual Olympus mountain! It's my first time to race something like that(i just wish only to finish!). I believe it would be more Hiking than Running(what do you think?). I want to buy a shoe for that event and i think that Altra Olympus could be a choice but... watching you very good video i really tend to change my mind, Do you think that Mutant could also be a good choice for me?

I don't think I'd ever really want to run in Gore-tex. Unless I knew I was going to stick to well defined trails where I know I won't put my foot in anything too deep. It's the non-waterproof shoes with excellent drainage that I like most. Will
@paulbarton9573 жыл бұрын
Fell running doesn’t really work with waterproof shoes. Needs to drain well after dunking. But trying to prevent the dunk doesn’t really work. And a full gtx shoe is no fun.

Great video! Btw, How durable is the Hydro Flask Lightweight Wide Mouth Trail? And how is the isolation?
@OutdoorsMagicTV3 жыл бұрын
I'd say it's almost as durable as the standard Hydro Flask. Certainly feels very tough. I haven't done a proper temp test for it yet (the thermometer has just arrived though!) I'm counting on the performance being unchanged though. There are more details on it over on our website: outdoorsmagic.com/article/hydro-flasks-trail-series/
