I’m pretty sure I just bought the exact same type at a dedicated trailer dealer in my area. It’s called a Carry On. I went with the 5x10 with treated 2x6 floors and the extra strength gate for $1200. The axle is rated at 3500lbs and the tires look like car tires with nice chunky thread. The Suretrack brand was only 500 more but I been spending a lot of money building my arsenal of legit commercial grade equipment.

My first trailer was a used Habor freight 4 by 8 for $100.00. I built new sides, used it for 5 years. I sold it for $150. My second trailer was a used Sure-Trac 5 X 8 flat bed trailer that was sold by Home Depot over ten years ago. I built new wooden sides and I’m still using it. I’ve been offered a good price for it, but not enough that I could replace with a new one like it. Last year I purchased a new 5 by 10 Sure-Trac trailer to haul my 42 inch Zero Turn mower. When I was looking around at trailers, I eventually ended up at tractor Supply and bought the 5 x 8 with wire mesh floor. I really like the trailers also I am considering putting either plywood or board flooring on it. I am thinking that the wire mesh with putting wood over it is even better than just the wood floor trailers.

Don't use plywood. Get decking Lumber. Fit your boards tightly together (no gaps between boards) as Lumber will shrink over time. Bolt your Lumber down with carriage bolts at every cross member and ends. Again this keeps boards straight and from rattling. Lastly let treated Lumber dry, it usually takes 10 to 14 days to dry. Once it is use a very good stain and waterproof your decking. Once every 4 to 5 years stain it again and your floor will last 25 to 30 years easily. Its easy to do and the best floor you can put on a 3500 lbs axle trailer
@tag9147tag3 жыл бұрын

A 5x10 wooden floor trailer is a great starter. Spend a couple of extra bucks and go for a 3500 lb. axle. The wood floor makes it really easy to throw on some sideboards and haul topsoil and mulch. Also w. the 3500 lb. axle you can haul a dingo if you need a rental for a job and not worry about flattening your trailer.

If you are not in the lawn business, and therefore only use the trailer occasionally and on weekends, the mesh floor might be a better choice. They don't kill the grass when left sitting in one spot for long periods. They are a good bit lighter and easier to pull, and will therefore have a slightly larger payload. And best of all, you don't have to replace the wood all the time, which is an expensive pain in the keister. My last wooden floor trailer had to get a new floor just 6 years after it was purchased new. I use my trailers for hauling dirt bikes and camping eqipment to and from the mountains for vacations etc, and for when I buy something big, like a washer or dryer or sofa or something. I traded that trailer away over a year ago, and I am still trying to get grass to grow on the bare dirt where it used to sit in the yard. My next trailer will have a mesh floor. To keep it from sagging, I will simply keep a piece of painted, 3/4 plywood in the shed to put on it for added strength when necessary.

My first trailer was a mesh floor. Start out with what you can afford, don't start out with a bunch of payments. The only downside to a mesh floor is the tack welds break in the mesh sags. The Harbor Freight 170 Mig / flux welder will do just fine for repairs on the mesh. But when you weld it back yourself you can weld it up much stronger.

My best advice would be this.... Most of the time it is what your market is looking for... If you have acreage lawns, large facilities etc you are going to be buying multiple mowers, ZTRs etc.... The trailer needs to be sufficient to fit what you use, your truck needs to be enough to pull that trailer... if you plow get a 4wd... if you are going to do cleanups, mulch and or any construction get a dump...etc etc... The workload dictates the equipment you buy. Regardless if a single axle trailer is enough and 12' or under fits your needs... good advice for those people.
@VictorSanchez-SAF Жыл бұрын

I started out with a 4x8...... What I know now is I would go no smaller than the 5x8 wooden floor...when I upgraded to my next mower it was a 52" and the 4 foot wide trailer was useless.....and the wooden flower will hold up the best on the bigger mower.....just my 2 cents

Started with a 5x8 quickly grew out of it sold it the other day for $450 and just bought my 6x12 for $560

I’m sure I will go this route. Put it on my Home Depot card and forget about it. I just need something to park in the RV lot and ride the mower within the development.

I own one of the tube type and I'm putting sidewalls and a leaf vac on it to make it a leaf box cause my enclosed trailer will be carrying my tools this year

I'm in the market for a small trailer to pull a ZT mower. I am not in the business, but I need to be able to move the ZT to cut my parent's lawn. I like that 5x8. I also can use it to move/haul stuff.

For a strong multi-purpose first utility trailer, I would go with a wood board, A-Frame trailer that includes a jack. This set-up will last for years and will pay for itself in no time.

I added a marine Jack from northern tool for $35 it works great for rolling it around

Hey Brian! While I agree starting out we all had to be frugal , I personally never liked open trailers for the following reasons....1 Theft 2 vandalism 3 Equipment damage, I mean if you have it parked in a secure area okay , but with an enclosed trailer say 6x12 ya pretty much take away all temptation.. A plus is the 4 sided billboard, security and safety i.e. gas and oil not being accessible ... As for price I started with a 6x10 for $1200 used which I kept for 5 yrs. and sold for $800.... For the new guys out there remember the guys that are buying new have the old ones for sale, check around I think you may be Surprised and happier with an enclosed used trailer to start....Besides other guys knowing you're just putting a business together are more apt to make you a good deal as they've been in your shoes and know the struggle.......Just my humble opinion, good luck out there! Sonny

Yeah I agree 100%. A good enclosed trailer starting out too can save a lot of headaches and hassles like you mentioned, if you have a little more room in your budget.

true, but the open trailer allows versatility for landscape work like mulch, brush hauling and cleanups.

Good little trailers. Definitely get an A frame tongue and not the one piece. Get the mesh floor and add your own wood later. You save $ and the wood floor ones have no mesh under them just a few horizontal braces. Catch them on sale! Lowe’s has them too. Save 10 % with coupon or military discount. You can easily drill thru the steel in order to modify.

What’s up bro. Great video. I have a small glass company and looking to get a new truck and I’m tired of bolting huge racks to the sides oft trucks. So I’m thinking about for the first time setting up a 8ft trailer that I can put on an off as needed. I would be mostly carying glass possibly an A-frame for glass and windows.

In my opinion the manufacturer of TSC trailers skimp on the frame in a few key points I haven't owned one but I beefed up a friends trailer after the tongue bent. It bent when he has hauling way above the recommended load rating. This being said I would still buy one for that price point but would beef it up.
@awno66275 жыл бұрын
how would you beef it up?

Just looked at the 5x8 mesh over the weekend and they’re $1099 now. I think they did some upgrade a few things since.

I went today to look at a 5x8 wood floor at TSC today. What a piece of junk. The “rubberized” paint had runs all over, a nut was stuck in the paint and it was all rippled, tar all over the gate and surface rust all on the angle iron that wasn’t coated thick enough. I ended up going to Home Depot and got a karavan trailer. Quality was 200x better and with a 10% off coupon, it was $50 more than the crappy TSC one.

Great video very informative. But have a few problems with the small Mash trailer $500 one it is not a good investment for anybody in the long run I had that trailer as a secondary trailer just to haul my garden tractor not very big mower weighed less than 500 lb. The supporting angle iron underneath the trailer broke welds are not good I basically took old lawn mower blades and reinforce the frame with five of them also cut out the mesh floor and replaced it with wood for more strength. Over the course of 3 years of owning the trailer and putting on 35,000 miles on it have to say never had to replace the tire but spent about the cost of the trailer itself in maintenance and time. I would recommend the tubed 5 by 8 wooden trailer I had to upgrade because I bought a Husqvarna pz 6034 and that would not fit the mesh trailer I got it on a Father's Day sale and even got another $200 off the price tag $1,000 (I'm in New England shit cost more here). The best thing about this trailer is the axle is an Overkill axle is actually rated for 3500 lb on a 2600 GVW trailer it's one of the best axles you can get highly recommended easy for maintenance. Just an FYI for those of you that read this far down. you can get a 6 by 12 with a two-foot mesh side 7000 pound GVW with a 5400 pound payload at Lowe's or Tractor Supply for $2,300 is a special order but they will do it. Is a great trailer I've had mine for 6 years I have not had to replace the brakes only thing I replaced is the wiring lights to LED and tires and bearings. And all that stuff was due to age or me backing into something. The trailer is nice I have hauled 8 yards of mulch do not suggest it because you will be overweight and Dot would get you for being overweight but can comfortably can hold 6 yards of dry or wet mulch without going over your weight limits can fit a commercial zero turn and something small like a stand behind on it. Long as you're not at maximum payload you can tow with a half ton truck this trailer is the best bang for your buck without breaking the bank other trailers with the same features are around $4500 to $5500.
