Infantry dont have much going for them, but there is so many cavalry players that i believe that infantry is still pretty strong. If lets say there is 50-70% of players who plays cav or consider themselves cav mains, having an infantry march countering almost every march on the field isnt something to ignore. For that reason it makes infantry stronger than suggested in this video but i do agree that infantry do lose on paper by quite a bit. (btw the 50-70% is from what ive seen from my own experience it is not factual statistics)

Cavalry has the best overall equipment by far. Archer has the best set, but 0 flexibility. Every non-set piece for Archers is attack, they only have 1 health piece of equipment outside of the set but it overlaps with the health piece from set. Infantry is about the same as Archer strength overall but can get their patterns a lot easier.

Thank you Chis! You mentioned which troop types counter each other at the end, and it would be helpful to understand just how big of an impact that plays. Is it simply the variation in base stats that accounts for which troop type counters another, or is there some other bonus/effect? Depending how big of an impact a troop type's ability to counter another is, that may be another factor to consider. Archers seeing the troop type they counter on the field 40% of the time, infantry 50%, and cavalry 10% (using the vote results for approx usage). Thanks again!

Thats not fair for medium spenders like me. Honestly, there should be way bigger gap between F2P and P2W players

Archers are underrated mostly because of how bad they are in pre-SOC and how difficult it is for a new player to specialise into them. However, if you are willing to suffer through KVK 1, 2, and 3 with just being in a supporting role and saving lots of GH, then archers do get paid off in a big way in SOC. Most players don't specialise into archers because they don't want to wait all the way to SOC to finally get good commanders, but if you are willing to do that, then its a good path.

I don’t think specializing in one unit type is good for anyone. You will run out of troops in SoC and not have enough of the other types for filling rallies and garrisons.

@@ollimikkola7168 Fair enough, you do have to acknowledge however all the other intrinsic advantages archers have. We have by far and away the best combat civ in ottoman (I switch to germany during offseason). We also have the most forgiving set of free to play and low-spender equipment with an amazing epic set, and our full legendary set without KVK helm or weapon is also the best. And we have a vast wealth of good field-fighting commander selection too. Lilith has kind of stacked the deck in favor of archers in SOC. Yes, going hard into archers as a brand-new player really sucks badly early on and it means basically punting KVK's 1 through 3 as a weak support player while hoarding gh, but if you are willing to do that I think its worth it.

I agree that archers have most decent open field commanders but only boudica is top tier. going for third archer march is just a bad idea currently. Also Cavs pretty much have better epic gear than archers, just the helmet has to be blue

The issue with archer commanders is that most of them are MGE comms which are far harder to invest in than wheel ones. Also, the 6 piece archer set being great is a down side, NOT an upside, because set BPs are far harder to get for non whales. You can get the non set cav/inf gear much easier. Archers are a great late game whale option, but theyre really bad for the average player.

Hey Chisgule. I don't think your analysis is fair, you don't really mention about the rally/garison where Cavalry shines in rallying (cities, pass, barb stuff...) and it's absolutely insane that Zeno is still relevant for infantry. Actually, I feel that archers commanders are getting outdated way too fast compared to Infantry and Cavalry. In my opinion, the fact that the open field is packed with full nevsky, xy, joan make your archer march really weak. That's also funny that archer is the only unit that can't do cheeseburgering like A/T - Pakal/Haral. Also keep in mind that archers start to be viable way later in the game stage than cavalry or infantry. To finish, what people really underestimate is that a lot of events favor cavalry (everything linked with barbs basically) Hopefully, everything will change with the new updates, we really need to give more love to archers.

Just a question Chis, Why is it that in real life the cycle of which troop type trumps who is Infantry strong against Archers, Archers strong against Cavalry, and Cavalry strong against Infantry. RoK has it the right way around, which is what we can see from history because pikemen (inf) slay Cav, Cav have the mobility and armor to smash archers, and archers have the range and arrows to decimate infantry.

Infantry probably got upvoted due to Zenobia’s dominance. Archers are the only troop to not have an overly OP meta at any time. Remember A/T at release??? Unstoppable. Zeno at release??? Unstoppable. Archers have never had a turn of being unstoppable.

Isn't it possible to just mix both archers and cavs together? I'm new to the game so idk how it really works but couldn't you just choose the ottomans or Germany, depending what you want as a main troop, then support that main troops with the secondary troop? For example, I can choose ottoman (since im f2p) and get great commanders for them, but then when in battle, put the cavalry with all the health stats in front of the archers. I got no clue how the game works so bear with me lol

Hospital cap is nice, but not really a premium field stat. Certainly not when compared to march speed and skill damage. Arabia is great, and in that regard cavs have a META rally civ but miss out on a field/garrison civ.

I think the problem with archers is that their absolute best commanders are locked behind mge.. most players can't compete on that specially against whales.. unless it's a fixed mge.. the strong archers you can get from wheel is only boudica and ysg.. Cyrus and Ramses are also in the wheel but commanders like Nebu, artimisia, and tomyris, are arguably better than those 2..
