Never occurred to me but that it's a really good idea.

Jack O' Lantern yeah, never occurred to me either until the old lady in the bookshop in Montreal suggested it to me.

🤦♂️ I literally use short plays and scripts to teach French 🇨🇦, yet never thought to do that with my own learning (outside of a textbook) or for extensive reading!!! Thanks for the tip! I don't even want to be in Canada during winter, yet you came to study! True dedication 💪

This is such a refreshing video to stumble upon. In comparison to ads and click bait, it's just excitement to share something involving the language they're learning that they think can genuinely help others. :)

Oh. My. God. This could possibly change my (language learning) life. When I clicked on this video, I was expecting something like "Pick out books that suit your level", but this is actually so specific and unexpected and yet makes perfectly sense. Especially what you said about children's books is true. On one hand, of course they're easier to understand, but on the other hand, learning that the earth revolves around the sun and that there are also other planets in the solar system (and other *fascinating* facts) on a toddler's level is kind of unspectacular. 😂

The old lady is definitely right, the only thing, as many have already pointed out, nowadays, you may want to use movie or TV-show transcripts instead of plays. That way, you will learn more words, idioms, and collocations that are actually used today. But of course, it all depends on what your goals are and what kind of language you want to learn.

Olly Richards has book series that are all dialogue - they're not bad either. But plays are great for dialogue obviously.

Great idea. The mimicking of speech. And what are we trying to learn? Speech. Great.
