I have this monitor, and love it for productivity. I always have multiple windows open and like it for 2 apps side x side, like Outlook and a browser or Word / Excel, and the resolution and size of the apps is just about perfect (each would be 1920 x 1600). Or, I can have 6 Remote Desktop Sessions open and tiled at 1280 x 800 each. Photo editing on it is great (speaking from an amateur's perspective). I can even connect my Surface Book 2 to it via USB-C and have it charge the laptop, and then do side by side screens between my Desktop and Laptop if I want via the monitor's controls. It's even OK for casual gaming as well. Not sure why you're seeing a 60Hz limitation - I'm running an RTX 2080 Ti card and can set it to 75Hz over HDMI, and I think I was doing so over DisplayPort as well. And now, with the ability to enable GSync w/ FreeSync monitors (albeit currently only over DisplayPort if I understand correctly), it may even be better, though without DisplayPort 1.4 support, I can't have the (semi-) HDR and FreeSync support at the same time.

For everyone thinking about a 21:9 monitor in general, i can promise yout this: You never want to go back to 16:9. You have so more room to work with and if you are into gaming, the immersion this creates is way higher. It feels like this is how its supossed to be. Personally i think this monitor from LG is a bit overkill in size (37,5), but it depends how much space you have on your desk and what your distance is to it. A 34 inch monitor is just the perfect size if you dont want to move your head all the time, which you might have to with something bigger.

I finally pulled the trigger on one 2 years later lol. I feel like right now its the sweet spot for a really good all-arounder now that Nvidia supports Freesync. Sure, its only 75Hz but for general use its noticeably smoother then 60Hz and you basically need a RTX 2080ti to push AAA games above 75 fps at this resolution anyway. So for me with my Ryzen 3700X and RTX 2080 its like the perfect match. The newest LG 38" with 144hz is a wopping $1700 usd. I got this but the "BK" model for $950. Same exact monitor but has the free 3yr warranty from LG.

Thinking about making this purchase for my 1080, how did it run with your 2080? Unsure if it's just better to get a 34 wide with higher refresh rates etc, look forward to hearing a bit more feed back on how it's going for you, I am to looking for an all round monitor that doesn't blow the bank account to much. Thanks
@PCPAyLOAD4 жыл бұрын
@@tonywharton267 Use case is obviously the most important thing to consider. Lite causal gaming, dont care about ultra high settings, your 1080 will be fine. But don't expect to hit 75hz on many AAA games at this res. A 1440p 34" ultrawide runs noticeably faster. I Have had several 34". My LG gn850-b is their newest 34" 160hz beast. I have that for gaming specifically. Puts my 38wk95c to shame. But everything just feels squished on a 34". For quite literally everthing work related the 38" is king. Love the 1600 vertical res. Its pixel response time is just to slow for fast motion. Your 1080 is getting a bit old but a 2080 is just slightly faster then a 1080ti. You best bet it to get the monitor you want and upgrade your gpu later. NVIDIA 3000 series gpu's will be out later this year

Great Review! How is the text sharpness? Compared to a MacBook's Retina display is the text fuzzy or sharp?
@OfficialTechByte4 жыл бұрын
Hi pedram. Assuming you are talking about the newer MacBook Pros, the text sharpness of this monitor is significantly fuzzier. The MBP's PPI is 226-227 whereas this monitors PPI is around 110-111. It's hard to find a wallet-friendly monitor with a similar PPI as Apple's Retina Display, as even a 27" 4K monitor will display fuzzier text than MBP displays. You would need a 27" 5K monitor to match the PPI of a MBP Retina Display. Hope this answers your question and more :)

I have a 2019 16” fully spec maxed I got this monitor and text and icons look pixelated in both Mac OS and windows 10 with Bootcamp it looks so bad and annoying, I know it won’t be as good as the Mac screen but it’s so ugly how it displays text, icons and window borders. I have it set at native resolution 3200 x 1600 with usb to DP adapte @ 75hz Any tweaks that can fix this? Or what monitor should I buy that will match MacBook screen in text icon and window sharpness?
@OfficialTechByte4 жыл бұрын
Hi Franco, its not you, it's the pixel density of the monitor. Although the LG 38WK95C is very sharp compared to most consumer monitors, the monitor is nowhere near as sharp as a MacBook Pro's display. An ultrawide that will eliminate this issue would be the LG 34WK95U 5K2K monitor. It has a much higher pixel density than the 38WK95C. Beware of the steep price tag though!

Also, the native resolution of the 38" monitor is 3840x1600. You may want to adjust this in your display settings.

Hello, don't you have text rendering issue using OSX Mojave, my MacBook Pro 2018 connected to 38wk95c, gives pixelated, not vectorized text, very far away from Retina experience. Please help or suggest, looks like my MacBook is not compatible with this display
@OfficialTechByte6 жыл бұрын
iMovie.lt if you sit up close, you will definitely see pixels as the pixel density is only 110 pixels per inch on the LG 38WK95c. A 15 inch MacBook has a pixel density of 220 pixels per inch, double that of the LG ultrawide! Now 110 pixels per inch is already pretty sharp, especially when compared to 1080p, but it definitely cannot beat a MacBook in terms of sharpness. If you want similar sharpness to a MacBook, you’d need to get the LG 5k ultrawide or a 27” 3840x2160 16:9 monitor. Have you tried watching movies on the LG38wk95c yet? Do you have pixelated images with 4K movies as well? Or is it only the text that has an issue?

How about charging experience? How much juice does it supply? Enough for 87W MBP 15”. If displays power supply is below 87W does it just charge MBP slower or does the battery drains with time?
@OfficialTechByte6 жыл бұрын
Hi Alan, the power output of the USB-C port is 60W. It is enough to charge your MBP, just at a slower rate than the 87W adapter that Apple provides. However, if you’re doing some heavy tasks that require a lot of GPU and CPU power, the 60W supply will not be sufficient. In my experience, the battery percentage actually starts to decrease (but at a very slow rate). This, of course, is to be expected since GPUs require a significant amount of power, but in most cases, the power supplied through the USB-C port from the monitor is sufficient enough to charge your MBP.

@OfficialTechByte6 жыл бұрын
Yes you’re right. A true “ultrawide 4k” monitor would be a 5k resolution. At the moment, there are very few 5100x2160 monitors, but luckily LG just released a 5k ultrawide monitor. Unfortunately it’s extremely expensive at the moment since that kind of resolution isn’t very prominent in the market yet, but I can see other companies release their own 5k ultrawide into the market in the next few years to come and prices will drop as more are produced and sold!

And the funny thing is, that i also didn't know for a long time, and also only found out just a month ago, and i was also like, what the hell, why is the G-Sync option not stated in the monitor menu itzelf, but have to find out in the software the came with it, that it actually does support it 🤨

And as far as gaming goes, i do play games some times, i'am playing Red Dead Redemtion 2 the last couple of weeks, and that's still playable on my rig on the resolution this monitor needs, so that's the full 3840 x 1600 pixels, and still runs around a 60 fps, and that's still a very playable fps if you ask me, so i'am more than happy whit this monitor.

@OfficialTechByte4 жыл бұрын
This would be better if you play games casually (this monitor has a higher refresh rate of 75hz). The dell would be better for pure productivity. The USB-C power delivery of the Dell monitor is greater than the LG monitor’s (100W vs. 60W) so when you’re editing or running multiple tabs, your MBP’s battery won’t slowly start draining with time with the Dell. Both are very colour accurate, but the Dell is on average 50 nits brighter (350 vs. 300) so that’s a bonus for productivity. Hope this helps! Subscribe for more videos :)

Sergio Faz To be honest, I don’t think it’s worth it, it’s nowhere close to the HDR experience you get on TVs. Depending on what content is on your display, “HDR10” may be able to make your content look better, or sometimes it has actually made things look worse. It’s pretty 50/50. Keep in mind that there’s not a whole lot of content that supports HDR out there, so sometimes the HDR effect just looks like a filter was applied to the content on your screen. I have seen the 38WK95C go on sale for cheaper than the 38UC99, so keep your eyes open for the deals! just bought a LG 34WK650 i can't bring myself to spend much more then that on a monitor i already have a 4k lg tv and my eyes can't tell much difference however I am finding all the lgs look alike haha
@OfficialTechByte6 жыл бұрын
All LGs do have a similar theme going on for them! The 34WK650 is a great choice if you’re on a budget, you’ll probably be pretty happy with it! Keep in mind though, that 4K TVs have a much lower pixel density than a 4K or even a 1440p monitor but you’re sitting pretty far back from the TV that you won’t be able to tell the difference in clarity. Definitely give 4K monitors a try in the future though if you have the money!

What would you choose currently as the best monitor on the market. Best of all worlds?
@OfficialTechByte5 жыл бұрын
Hi Noah, If you want an ultrawide more suited for gaming but can still be used for video editing and media consumption, I’d definitely recommend the LG 34GK950F. But best all around ultrawide in my opinion: LG 34WK95C or the 38WK95C (if you want a larger screen). These monitors both have great colour accuracy, relatively low input lag, a generous 75Hz refresh rate and AMD freesync (if you want to casually game), USB-C support, a WQHD resolution for extra sharpness, and an amazing design. If you have a slight budget: BenQ EX3501R. If you’re on a tight budget: LG 34WK650 Hope this helps, and please drop a like and subscribe if you enjoyed this video!

Freesync. I'm out. They really need a universal standard. The Freesync/GSync divide cuts any gaming monitors market in half right out of the gate.

Hey awesome review! I just got me this monitor and i have my 18' mbp connected through upstream usbc, works like a charm for charging and i love the usba hub thing, i can plug literally anything into the monitor and shows up in the mac! :) Now, i have an aesthetic problem, with this monitor and maybe u have it too: I leave my monitor On all the time because I want my mbp and other devices I have connected to the monitor to receive power and charge while not using them (if I turn off the monitor, everything connected to it stops receiving power) BUT, doing so, keeps the little nub under the monitor that controls the OSD blinking all the time, its very annoying. I've Power Led off in the monitor configs, and while it keeps the power led off while using the monitor, it still blinks when entering power saving mode....any idea how to turn it off? I even thought about stripping apart the monitor and taking the led out myself xD

@@OfficialTechByte well of course, the higher the better, but considering how hard it is to run this kind of resolution, even with a top end GPU, I'd be plenty happy with a refresh rate around 100hz 😁

@JunshuLiu2 жыл бұрын
It is 21:9, but not full 4K as 3840x2160. The resolution is 3840x1600. For Ultrawide with vertical 4K, you need to get the 5120x2160 models (which LG markets it as “5K2K”).
