This REAL 4k Ultrawide monitor is EPIC | LG 34WK95U-W Review

This is LG 34WK95U-W 34” 5k2k ultrawide monitor and it's absolutely EPIC. It is called 5k2k because technically, it’s not a 5k display, because if it was, it would come with 5120 by 2880 resolution, but this being a 21:9 aspect ratio monitor, it comes with 5120 by 2160, therefore, LG and most people refer to it as 5k2k monitor. Think of it as a regular 4k monitor on steroids, offering 33% more real estate.
Ultrawide monitors nowadays are not uncommon, but this one is special because most ultrawide displays are quite poor when it comes to pixel density and sharpness. This one, however, is not. In fact, if it has one weakness it would be the 60hz refresh rate which automatically excludes it from the gamers list. This monitor, however, was never designed with the gamers in mind and LG markets this beast as the ultimate content creators display...and I think they nailed it.

Thanks Alex! I have used both and to tell you the truth, after a week, the curved monitor doesn’t make much difference to me. The way I see it, it is more of a stylistic choice and which would look better for your setup rather than usability.

I'm looking for such a display for my new laptop. I bought myself a Lenovo ThinkPad P17 Gen 1 with an internal Intel UHD Graphics P630 currently running 4K (3840x2160@60Hz). Main usage is programming using Visual Studio 2019/Code, Remote Desktop, and some database management software alongside a few Word and Excel docs, some image editing but not a graphist at all, so no need for PhotoShop or the like. So first question is: will my internal laptop graphic adapter be able to drive such a big 5K2K monitor? Second question is: will it get tiring to have such a big screen before me all day long, or will it ease the strain on my eyes by the end of the day? Third question is: does it allow for tiling windows to simulate multiple screens on a single monitor? Fourth question is: why most of 4K ultrawide monitors only come with a 1440p resolution? Because my wish is to use a single monitor just like I had six FullHD monitors, mostly. That is, three windows first row on top, and three other windows at the bottom, given an average equivalent of 6 1920x1080 screens on a bigger screen without putting to much restraint on my eyes. Your answers and/or recommendations are appreciated.

Nice video. I use the iPad folio keyboard too and whilst it lacks some of the features of other similar products I think the slim form factor far outweighs any perceived limitations. I have a K380 on my desk so will sometimes use that with the iPad whilst I have it resting on a stand.

I don't even like the 21:9 as much as the 32:9 which would actually be two normal 16:9 monitors combined. Especially for in a van because 21:9 is not that much of a help to me. This is more like one and a half displays.

Tough question Victor. I wouldn’t recommend having a dual screen setup with an ultrawide because it defeats the purpose of you ask me. I would recommend either ultrawide, dual 27” or dual 32”. I currently use the new 32” ultrafine and I absolutely fell in love with this form factor. My latest video is on it.

It is less far away than what I was thinking now that I have installed it (received yesterday the 34" 5k2k!), I'm working as an Engineer and having the 5k2k resolution is awesome, but I feel I will have to get a second screen for few other programs I will need to. And thanks for the review of the 32" LG ;) I may get it somewhere near end of this year :)

@@ThisIsE I'm using a MBP 16" and works beautifully (I checked first because I know this resolution isn't for all laptops). My first impressions after 2 days of use is: AWESOME! I have never been so comfortable by having this amount of screen real-estate. This really changes my productivity. I highly recommend it if you're looking for huge space and if you're constantly with multiple windows (I usually have 1-2 browser windows, 1-2 code editors and a terminal window). Expense, but worth every single penny :)

You CANNOT find this monitor (34WK95U) for $900. You are confusing it with the 34BK95U. Yes, they look exactly the same and there is only a one letter difference in the model name. But it is the difference between 600 and 450 brightness, with a couple of other minor things. (Additionally there is a curved version 34WK95C to add to the confusion). Also, it is unfortunate you did not mention anything about the resolution you are using or the mac There is a ton of reports that this monitor in fact does NOT work with the the MB Pros and does not scale well at all, resulting in "muddy" fonts, etc.

Scaling depends on what you are doing. Not for editing, perhaps. For coding or writing, likely. Allegedly it does not work with the 2019 MB 16" either. You can read the reviews on B&H and other major vendor sites.

Now that I actually own one I can confirm that it works with MB Pro 16" at full resolution and scales. It is not as straight forward as other monitors and might require a restart and some tweaking. I like it.

@@flapflapflap Just go to System Preferences -> Displays. The resolution will be set at "Default for display" by default when the monitor is first connected. Hold down the "option" key and click on "Scaled" radio button. You will get the full list of available resolutions, including 5120x2160

I have a 2017 MBP 15 inch with RP560. Will this work or not? I've heard so many different stories about this monitor and it's making me hesitant to pull the trigger. I've heard if you get 5k2k, it's so tiny that you can't see anything and you just end up running it at a lower resolution. I've also heard that macOS Catalina makes using it a nightmare and it just doesn't recognize the resolution. Is this still the case? If you got it to 5k2k, how did you make it so the UI wasn't tiny? My goals are just to have the monitor for my work, and then be able to use it at 4k with black bars in gaming on a ps4 pro. Please let me know, thanks.

If the laptop supports it, you won’t have to worry about everything being tiny because the Mac supports scaling and everything looks pixel perfect. As far as compatibility, you shouldn’t have an issue since the 15” MBP can run up to 3 separate 4K displays so running one ultrawide shouldn’t be a hassle at all.

trying to compare this one to the 38wm95c.. My main question is font size I'm both are running a full resolution is one harder to read text at. .For example when my 2019 MBP is at full res it's pretty difficult to read text in apps.. so I usually run that one less than full res.. and work of secon monitor for min work. alexandergoldman they’re both very good, but the 5k monitor is better for the material and resolution. Btw I think it should cost about 750€, for quality price the curved monitor is absolutely the winner. If you don’t have problem with money and you need more resolution the 5k is the right choice

@@aachenrich25 hey, I'm so sorry but I just realized I gave you the wrong answer. I have several monitor reviews and for a moment I thought your comment is under a different review of mine. I haven't tested it with this ultrawide. I think it will work but it won't be able to fire up all the pixels. Linus Tech Tips has coverage about this monitor talking in-depth about the Windows laptop support so I'd watch that and maybe reach out to LG about confirmation.

DO NOT BUY LG. DOES NOT RESPECT THE WARRANTY I bought a monitor for kings and a week ago streaks appeared all over the screen, and our "friends" of the LG technical service after seeing two photos have refused to repair it, not even seen it in person. They say that it is a blow and point, with a total arrogance and a lack of respect. There was no point in protesting. An LG 34WK500 monitor, an expensive monitor that has to end up in the trash or I pay for the repair so said by the sat technician.
