My dad invaded France with the 29th ID. They wore M41s. Some GIs would flip the jacket inside out since the shade of the wool lining matched the shade of the vegetation in Northern France. I have a large collection of original uniforms, and the M43 is an absolutely brilliant design. You can even wear a tie with the damn thing. And the M43 liner is genius and very warm in cold weather.

Very nice informative Video! My grandpa was in ww2 in 506 S.Pz Abt as a tank driver at the Battle of Bulge. When I was a kid, he said that American Uniform was very good and comfortable so some germans took it to wear. Greetings from Germany!

It’s great that the younger generation is still interested in history. Thanks for the informative video👍I thought we were all dying off😄I have a M41 and M43. The M43 is far more utilitarian but I like the looks of the M41 better. Scale modelling was my start to a life long love of history.

& then the M43 became the M50, M51 & M65 each obtaining very slight modifications. The M41 Parsons Field Jacket didn't just stop there though it wasn't the topmost garment for fighting in the winter in Europe. There was the Mackinac Jacket & the Wool Trenchcoat. No one ever mentions the P41 & P42 HBT Fatigues. A lot of the guys in SPR are wearing them under the M41 & Gordo for one is wearing one in Fury, it is the camouflage one used by the 41st Armored Inf.Rgt. 2Armor. The Pacific, Dirty Dozen & Thin Red Line show profound use of these. OD7 mostly. The 4th ID used em on DDay Along w the 4th Cavalry Group/Rgt.

I'm a re-enactor who mostly does British impressions, but I recently got interested in doing a US infantry medic uniform (thanks World War Wisdom), so another member of my family who did a lot of US army re-enacting gave me a few things, like a helmet, and an M43. I don't know very much about American uniforms still, but my experience with my British stuff is that I'll learn quick, and this video was a great help. I wanted to find out if it was appropriate for me to wear it as a more non-descript US medic, as I don't even know if I'm going to join a US group or not, and now I know that it should be fine. I always liked late 44-45 US uniforms more than the earlier ones, and I didn't know why, but this explains it.

Funny point... In band of Brothers the mini series Ronald Spiers character retains and wore the M42 Normandy jacket through the battle of bulge episodes.... So when you had an arrow pointing and said this guy has an M43 field uniform he didn't he was wearing his M42 jump suit

Ah. My favorite modelling channel. Thanks for the info. GI uniforms are rarely featured in YT, maybe because the German uniforms were more aesthetically interesting, whereas the the US Army's were more "down-to-earth" or utilitarian.

The two things I dislike about M43 are how baggy and ill-fitting they are compared to the M42, and how thick the fabric is. Great in winter, but they look stifling in summer.
