Thanks for your detailed reviews. Based on a previous review I purchased two Baseus 100 watt desktop chargers for the end tables next to the couch in our family room. It’s where my family spends most of our time together, and there is always something needing a charge - iPhones, iPad Pros, Nintendo Switches, etc. They work great charging multiple devices at once and have a very small footprint. I put some Velcro on them and the end tables to keep them from sliding off.

Just so you know, a vehicles 12V socket, has a max rated output of 100W. So buying any car USB adapter that claims over 100W, is marketing hype and diminishing returns. If you find one that does up to 100W, that's all you need. Good luck 👍

Would a charger with lower wattage increase the longevity of the battery instead of constantly using Apple’s high wattage charger which constantly fast charges? Informative video! Grab yourself a pop-filter for your mic or talk into the mic off axis. You've got quite a few popping Ps happening. May not be noticeable on a phone, but when watching on a TV with a sound bar and sub, the pop is very present.
@AllThingsOnePlace
@AllThingsOnePlace Жыл бұрын
Hah, yeah, it comes and goes on videos, thanks for the feedback and it definitely comes down to laziness on that part. I literally have multiple proper pop filters and don't use one. Or just go an extra inch away from the mic fixes that too. I do watch with a sub and bigger speakers on a tv and have noticed it enhances the bass versus monitors, that system is also tuned flat though so still probably not as boomy as most systems. My editing software doesn't have a tunable high pass filter setting so it is a really low slope on the filter. Would help if I could bump that up to -24 dB per octave or something.

For a 100w charger I've been LOVING my ALOGIC 100w charger. Unlike my Cygnett 70w charger it doesn't need to cut power to other devices when plugged in. It's size is also great and it comes with a 100w usb c cable. I still love the Cygnett 70w charger as I'm able to get 65w out of either of the two ports or when using both one pushes out 45w and the other 25w, it's like a little swiss army knife of chargers and the small form factor is amazing. I've been using the ALOGIC 1X65 for over a year now, but recently switched to the ALOGIC 3X67 (Multi country). I liked my last charger, but the single port was really annoying. The new one can do 47W from the bottom port, as well as 15W split amongst the top USB A and C ports. It also supports the full 67W output for just one port. I like the new one is much better, as I can charge my laptop and phone at the same time, and it makes it super convenient only needing 2 cables max in my bag. The size is great, and while I don't plan on travelling any time soon, it's nice to know if I do I don't need to worry about an extra travel adaptor. I can definitely agree with you, ALOGIC makes some pretty nice stuff. While their stuff is sometimes expensive, it's good quality.

I found for older devices converted to C you need to try and match its original spec like I have a Magsafe 1 to USB-C adaptor and I tried using a 30w PD charger while it worked the Mac Book Pro wasnt happy coming in and out of charge constantly when in use but 30w can trickle charge while the device is switched off its best to use something with at least 65w of power or greater if you wanted to use the device at the same time with no issues.
@AllThingsOnePlace
@AllThingsOnePlace 10 ай бұрын
mmm yeah, the magsafe cable actually negotiates the power in the cable so it is possible it asks for too much of a 30w adapter not knowing that it is a smaller power adapter. Sounds like a limitation of the USB specification. If connecting directly with USB C I'd expect not to have that problem but with the magsafe, yeah, I could see that happening. So I live in a van and power efficiency is my number one priority when looking at a charger. Do I understand correctly that when charging my MacBook from a low battery to full its best to use a lets say 100w power adapter but when idling it would be best to use a lets say 30w power adapter? Because of their efficiency at those power consumptions? Please let me know if I’m wrong. Great videos btw, very informative and the best place on the internet so far for actual data about these adapters.
@AllThingsOnePlace
@AllThingsOnePlace Жыл бұрын
In general you are correct that the real power in story follows your assumptions. It depends on the adapter though. Some of the high power adapters maintain high efficiency even at lower wattages. For inverter living (if you aren't always grid tied), you really need to pay attention to the VA usage also since your inverter has to handle that extra current somehow. It would be better to use a car charger direct from battery for your USB needs as opposed to an AC adapter though.

My biggest disagreement is about the difference between "can be" and "needs to be". My Anker 737 power bank _can_ be charged at 140W, but it does _not_ need a 140W charger to recharge it. Likewise, my various ultraportable notebook computers that _can_ charge at 45W will charge at 30W from my pocket-sized nano charger. And in a world where devices have non-replaceable batteries, and are pretty much obsolete when the internal battery dies, cutting back on charging power to keep them alive longer is a lot more sensible to me. But sure, I'll travel with that 65W charger that _can_ charge both my laptop and phone at full power if the need arises.
@AllThingsOnePlace
@AllThingsOnePlace Жыл бұрын
Yeah, very true and good point. My laptop if it isn't 'doing anything' only uses about 10 watts but it does need the 20V mode still. So, a 30W charger pretty much can meet all the requirements I have charging one at a time at least.

Your videos have been great thank you! Any idea why most PPS chargers still don't ”super fast charge 2.0” the high end Samsung devices? I'm having a hard time finding a non Samsung branded multiport charger that will charge them at 45 Watts which is the super fast charging 2.0 speed. I know Samsung requires a 5 amp charger and cable as well but I can't get specifics on most chargers PPS standards.
@AllThingsOnePlace

Thank you!! It is really difficult finding that information for sure! Some devices only support it for a limited time, some work better than others. I started testing and noting each mode to find the maximum wattage for the PPS mode. That 150W Anker for example only has a 45W maximum PPS mode and I think it only on one port, and they aren't labeled.

To get Samsung Super Fast Charge 2.0 to work, I think you need a charger that does PPS at above 3A. Most chargers limit PPS output current at 3A. So you need a charger that will do PPS 11V 4A and an e-marked cable that supports above 3A current.

Hi, for how long have you had the baseus 100w wall adapter? So far I have had some baseus products and they have been good, as I have also seen people with the adapter you mention with some issues, also I know of the good performance that the one has so I'm about to buy one... What would you recommend me to do? My situation is that I would be on a trip to a country where amazon is available (here in argentina it is not) so I need to go with something reliable 100w with at least 3 ports and then I go back to south america, I need it to be durable and not give me problems. Yeah, I've been using the Baseus adapters (both the 100W mutiport ones) for about 1 year now. I have had great luck with both of those adapters. I know they have some quality control issues and I am sure they will continue to have them as they are keeping the prices lower than a lot of the others in the same power region. I think the biggest issue is Baseus uses many suppliers to actually make the adapters, some do a really good job, and some cut corners. There are also fakes that look really convincing. Baseus added a little peel barcode thing to check for authenticity. Anker certainly has more trustworthy of a reputation, at least for power adapters, but they are much more expensive. I don't like giving a recommendation saying this is the best one ever and it'll be perfect because the fact is that's just not true. There is always going to be some failure of product and no product is perfect. At least my experience with Baseus has been mostly positive.

Hi! My new Essager 65 w charger has AC current passing through the usb cable. I am always getting slight electricution every time I touch the tip of the USC c cable. I am reading a 75 volt AC from my multitester with one probe on the USB tip and one probe on a wetted bare concrete while both my original samsung chargers are giving me just 5 v AC. Is the AC current passing through the USB cable while charging my phone bad for the phone? I read that ac current in the cacble will dissipate when it is plugged to the device being charged but I probed it and it still giving 75 v AC. Are Anker chargers or other well known brands giving like 75v AC on their cables? My other 33 w Essager is also elctricuting me with the same 75 v AC. What are the chances that chargers of good quality like anker accidentally passses through the cable AC voltages from the wall at higher voltages. Can you explain what are the mechanism installed on chargers to prevent those kind of events and if it fails what happens next?
@AllThingsOnePlace
@AllThingsOnePlace 3 ай бұрын
Yeah, that’s a good topic. It’s why safety testing exists also. There is always some leakage through the power supply due to capacitive coupling. Some are worse than others and due to the variable nature of capacitors some are much worse than others. It is not so much about the voltage but more about the current available, more than a few hundred micro amps can be concerning, a few milliamperes is dangerous. If the leakage current is high enough it can be very dangerous. The voltage is already dangerous which is why we need to use the power adapter in the first place, to isolate from the mains. Others also suffer this problem. It is a test I am going to be adding to my testing suite going forward also. But yeah one of the things I wasn’t too impressed with on the essagar 33w I looked at was the isolation, capacitor choice and transformer. It wouldn’t pass a UL safety test but good enough for the EU I guess? That’s just scratching the surface of course.

No, I don't have many specific peripheral videos. The issue now is which generation switch too. Old ones may have issues but newer ones are probably fine. There was an issue with the docks too, where they passed voltage on when they shouldn't. There are a lot of moving pieces on that but some percentage of switches is going to work with some percentage of chargers, what those actual figures are is unknown. It is going to be mostly compatible though and a few outliers here and there. I think that is the case with almost all USB C charging devices. The switch can charge with an older USB A 5V only brick though, like Apple 12W or something similar. The USB C bricks probably don't like the lack of negotiation so is likely where the incompatibility starts.

A general question: For a device like my Pixelbook that is always plugged in and seems to draw about 18 Watts: Is it better to power it with a high power, say 100W Desktop adapter or a low power like the 30W here? A secondary question: for phones, If I am not in a hurry, is it better to charge slowly with a low power or go to the max with a high power adapter?
@AllThingsOnePlace
@AllThingsOnePlace Жыл бұрын
Good questions. At 18 watts, you are on the border line. It is going to be very power adapter dependent. I'd say you are best off with a 30 watt charger of very high efficiency. Unless you have multiple devices to plug in then that 100 watt job is a good idea. The phones of today are heavily optimized for charging from basically anything. If they rate it for the power then it can probably charge at that and last, within reason. All that 100 watt charging in a phone is pure marketing. Maybe for 10 seconds.. or it is severely degrading battery life. I've noticed those chargers are very difficult to get ahold of. But charging at 25 watts these days seems to be the norm. I fast charge (9V-18W max) my ancient iPhone and it still has excellent battery health after 5 years. Every charge cycle degrades the battery. Extended time in hot and cold will shorten the life as well.

As soon as you use a second port you lose the advantage of that higher power port though. Baseus is inexpensive in the 100W category but quality control is wavy, none of mine have broken but I've heard of others that have broken, the adapter itself just stops working. Although, I've heard that on basically all of these.

@AllThingsOnePlace Жыл бұрын
Hmm, technically any USB C PD charger will be magsafe3 compatible with the apple cable. Apple uses the USB PD specification. The device decides how many watts it needs, the charger has to be able to supply 20V minimum though. To get the 140W charging you need the larger macbook, cable, and a PD 3.1-28V compatible charger. Maybe I am missing the point but let me know because I do move in the direction of recommendations for videos.
@elijahmodnar1
@elijahmodnar1 Жыл бұрын
@@AllThingsOnePlace i think youve answered it, the charger needs to output 20v+, as i think some 45/65w chargers wont like the magsafe cable so only output 15/18 or 30w only.

also i should add that even the maxxed out 16inch m1 max macbook peak draw is only 100w when scrubbing a time line and about 78w while rendering at 50% screen brightness so finding a nice 65/100w charger would be ideal so wont have to lug the big apple 140w charger :)

I'm planning to change my AC Adaptor (65w) of HP Envy x360 2021 with wall charger due to inconvenience on travelling. Will it be okay to use their USB C plug to charge with Baseus 100w ?
@AllThingsOnePlace
@AllThingsOnePlace 9 ай бұрын
Yeah, test it and see if it works. I couldn't get it to work so I use a USB C to barrel adapter, which works great for both of my HP laptops which have both barrel (blue tip) and USB C. The USB C will only work with Dell or HP branded power bricks on my machines. In theory it should all work fine but it looks like some manufacturers lock out 3rd party adapters in software. Oddly, apple is like whatever plug in anything in this regard.

Im considering either baseus gan5 pro 65w or 100w. My device requires 65w for lenovo notebook and S23 ultra. Is it good enough for me to pick 65w for those 2 devices? (65 has 3 ports and 100w only 2 ports)
@AllThingsOnePlace
@AllThingsOnePlace 8 ай бұрын
Yeah, I haven't been able to get a 100W GaN5 device from them, I am fairly certain that isn't a real product. They have two 65W GaN5 products I've seen, the hub and the slim adapter then the 140W adapter is occasionally marketed as GaN5 but that's not correct either. Fairly sure the 100W devices are fakes, not on the Baseus webpage either. I wouldn't go either either 65W adapter.

New viewer, but very impressed so far! The only multiport adapter, you said was wasteful to charge a phone, but then the next 65w category, you said wasn’t powerful enough and not recommended. So what do you recommend to charge a phone, watch and tablet or 4 other similar devices?
@AllThingsOnePlace
@AllThingsOnePlace 11 ай бұрын
Yes, a 100 watt adapter is wasteful to charge one phone. But if you have 4 of them, you can probably get it pretty close to maximum power usage, probably right in the ideal range of operation really. The 65W divides the port down so fast you end up with very low wattages per port for a multiport. The 65W single port is fine for a laptop.

So, you kind of have to break them into categories... The Google 30W charger is efficient but it won't maximize charging speed. It'll get close though. The big Anker chargers are oversized for a phone. The Samsung 45W chargers are a great pairing though, efficient and effective, made for the task at hand, and made well.

Anyone got a suggestion for a solid power adapter that can both charge 2 simultaneous 45w PPS devices? Since I have multiple Samsung devices at home.
@AllThingsOnePlace
@AllThingsOnePlace Жыл бұрын
That is a difficult one. Almost everything I have seen does 1 PPS device at a time. Then it turns the power down if you plug in another device. The 200W adapters are the only ones I've seen that can do both at once in PPS mode. These aren't exactly recommended. I am not 100% sure the Anker 150W adapter will do that. I think you will end up with one in PPS and one in normal PD mode.

That Amazon basics says 65 watts but I can only get it to do 5 watts standard. Is that normal?
@AllThingsOnePlace
@AllThingsOnePlace 8 ай бұрын
No, that isn’t normal it sounds like a negotiation issue. The cable is probably not properly connecting the CC pin which communicates data between the power adapter and the device. It sounds like there is some connection to get to 5v and 1 amp but not enough to enter a more powerful mode. If the device you are using needs QC or PPS the amazon device won’t talk that.
