There was also another pretty cool news from Italy: a plant based brand called Bio Lab effectively bought a prosciutto factory that was going bankrupt and converted it into a totally plant based deli meat factory, saving all 32 workers from being jobless.

Happy to hear that there are so many positive developments! It seems like Lidl (German chain btw) has better vegan options everywhere than compared to Finland, where I live. The German Lidl stores have soooo many options and it's so cheap and here they just introduced one kind of vegan cheese and one kind of cream cheese in the stores last year and that's it. We also have had vegan yoghurt and nuggest for a while, but still a very slim selection, which is sad because plantbased options at other stores are very expensive here.

Starbucks not charging for non-dairy options is huge! I hope other coffee stores follow. Paying an additional 10% for oat milk likely stops people from even TRYING it! Plus it's garbage to charge $0.50+ for a quarter cup of almond milk lol
@mjs28s2 күн бұрын
I'd rather pay the upcharge. It isn't fair for all the other patrons of Starbucks to have to subsidise my plant milk through higher costs of their drinks as well. Pay your own way. The plant milks are more expensive so what is the problem with paying more to get a plant milk drink? this isn't Cuba.
@amandamandamanda2 күн бұрын
@@mjs28s But they're not raising the cost overall to subsidize, so if anyone is losing money it's Starbucks, not milk drinkers. The cost breakdown is pennies per cup, regardless. Plant milk is more expensive because 1) the demand is lower and 2) gov subsidies keeping dairy more affordable. If this brings the demand for plant milk higher, cost follows inversely.

I'm not surprised that kids are enjoying the vegan nuggets at school. Reminds me of when I was at band camp as a kid and my mom volunteered to help serve lunches in the cafeteria. She brought Gardein nuggets to make for the vegetarian kids like me. Not only did the vegetarians enjoy them, nearly the entire band was eating them and asking for seconds.

I work for the British veterinary Association - it’s not your fault for getting this wrong because one individual put out misinformation PR that was widely reported. We have NOT reversed our position - our position has been for some time now that a plant-based diet for dogs is possible if very carefully planned and executed, but we do not advocate that it is the best option. If you read the PR on our website, it gives a better understanding of the situation.

I hate plastic clothing, unless you wear it every day until the day you die, it's so bad for the environment.
@StephAB-z2r22 сағат бұрын
Plastic in shoes/belts is not as bad as plastic in fabric, since it doesn't have to be washed so isn't spreading microplastics as much, although I agree with you in general.
@joydoe793822 сағат бұрын
@StephAB-z2r the concern is that currently, the plastic worn on feet and in belts isn't repairable. The buckle wear and the tread wear make the items effectively unusable for regular wear for extended periods. I would love to see more stuff made from fungi that's compostable after 2 years. If cork wasn't so rare and exploitative, I would say that cork and hemp sandals should be the norm in hot regions.
@StephAB-z2r19 сағат бұрын
@@joydoe7938 yeah that's a good point! Sometimes it's recyclable, not that that's a mass solution. I think for fashion purposes, if you take care of the item well and only wear it on occasion, pleather belts and shoes can last around a decade, at least in my experience. For practical or utility purposes, the best vegan leather alternative I know of would be silicone leather, which is extremely durable, lasts a couple decades, and doesn't create microplastics. It is not widely available though. Also, it of course is not biodegradable or natural. I've always been a proponent of cork, and I'm curious to learn why it is exploitative. Unrelated, but I learned something depressing recently that an estimated 30% of microplastics leeching into the environment comes from car tires as they create friction when driving on roads.

Lidl is GREAT- one of my favourite gorcery chains. They have their own vegan line Vemondo that has soo many different vegan products, and they are all great tasting and extremely affordable. Their strawberry-oatmilk ice cream is amazing, I know many non-vegan people that buy it and the best thing is they price it the same as non-vegan options (~2€ for 900ml). Even their vegan cheese is quite good. And also pesto - basil, dried tomato and red pepper. It cost the same as non-vegan one and its 60% cheaper than what Barilla costs. They also have their vegan hazelnut-chocolate spread that is even better than Nutella. If you're a vegan in Europe - Lidl is the first place to go.

@MsAussieSheilaКүн бұрын
Got to disagree about the kangaroos. They have no natural predators and we still have to cull. It is the best type of leather to use. People who aren't Australian just see them as more cute animals than they see cows that way. A drop in kangaroo leather is a negative - the vast majority of people who move away from kangaroo (be it leather or meat) will go to cow. The kangaroos are also wild. Yes, they still die (and they still will) but it is not remotely as bad as factory farming of cows.
@KoiraStar23 сағат бұрын
Yeah, not using the leather or meat or whatever is only a meaningful thing if it would mean that the animals aren't being killed. If they are going to be killed anyway, I think it is better to use the meat and leather than to not.

27:15 lol that took me back to when I was a kid. since I couldn't reach the top of my closet space, my dad had some old stuff up there. including his favorite childhood toy. it was a rubber bear thing in a yellow coat that squeaked when you squeezed it, and it was absolutely terrifying. I was often afraid it would come to life and kill me, but it was years before I ever told my dad how scared I was. then he was like "baby why didn't you tell me before?! it's ok I can move it!" edit: ok turns out it was a 1962 Edward Mobley Rubber Teddy, Buster Bear squeak toy.

10:50 and Albert Heijn did the same for their Terra lineup last year! My go-to kilopot soygurt (and it has to be the kilo pot!) went from 2.59 euro's to 1.50 overnight. I think that's a great outreach to their plant based/vegan customers. It's kind of BS to charge people more for a product that costs the producers, society, and not least of all the animals a lot less than animal dairy.

A passionate vegan activist, eager to share their thoughts and opinions about the world of plant-based living! Heres my summary of this video: The video begins with the host, a vegan activist, sharing their excitement about various plant-based products and initiatives. They start by discussing a video they watched, which featured some great news about veganism. The host then goes on to share their thoughts on the state of plant-based products, noting that sales have been stalling or even reversing in recent times. They also mention that theyll be posting another video soon, which will discuss this topic further. In the meantime, theyd like to hear from their viewers about what they think is causing the decline in plant-based product popularity. The host then takes a moment to chat with their 2-year-old children, who are playing in the background, and shares some funny moments about their little ones reactions to Mr. Worm (a stuffed animal). In the second half of the video, the host dives deeper into the world of cultivated meat, which they consider a groundbreaking innovation that could revolutionize the food industry. They emphasize its potential benefits, including making our food system more sustainable and humane. Throughout the video, the host shares their passion for plant-based living, using humor and anecdotes to make the topic more relatable and engaging. Their enthusiasm is infectious, and I can imagine viewers feeling inspired to explore the world of veganism further. Some key takeaways from this video include: 1. The need for sustained effort and innovation in the plant-based industry. 2. The potential benefits of cultivated meat as a game-changer for the food industry. 3. The importance of sharing knowledge and passion with others, like the hosts enthusiasm for veganism. Overall, this video is a great example of how effective storytelling can be used to promote positive change and inspire action.
