At the end of the day, the program although a tad bit difficult to navigate worked like a charm. Converted my "30MB.mov" file to a "3MB.webM" with alpha channels enabled. Glad you liked it! I totally understand the concern, but all Windows Defender is doing is seeing if the developer is registered in their database. It's an annual subscription they have to pay and for someone developing software as a side-gig, might not be worth the cost.

Shutter Encoder is such a valuable tool… TC burn in while converting, loudness normalization, replacing audio without re-encoding (very useful for me as an audio engineer, and since QT Pro was abandoned…). when i dug into it i soon just HAD to donate a little something to paul, because it almost seemed unfair that this piece of software is free. go get it.

Not sure. Experimenting is really the only way to know. Flip side is that you might be surprised to learn how much lossy stuff ends up on broadcast TV.

Hi Chris, I appreciate your section on converting VFR to CFR as I've been looking for how to handle this on my project. Just so I understand though (because in your video you trimmed the output file) - if you had left it as is, would the clip duration have changed at all by using this "conform" feature? If so, I'm assuming this would eventually create syncing problems if trying to match it to the audio portion captured separately of a musical performance? Or would it? If so, how quickly would the changed duration start showing that the video is starting to lag (or be ahead of) the audio capture? When I shot my drum footage, I didn't realize my phones would be deviating from 23.976!

I have an issue where my MOV file is converted to WEBM with transparency but... If I use it within specific software it shows transparency whereas in other things it adds a white background to it. Not sure how to fix.

That depends on how the software handles the alpha channel. In most cases there is an option to interpret how the alpha channel is viewed in the program.

So its only possible to decrease the Frame Rate per Second from the original video, right? Hey Argo, thank you for the question and kind note! In short, yes you can change the frame rate. You can increase or decrease it, but both options affect how the video will look. When you increase the number of frames, new frames are interpolated to fill difference between the original amount of frames per second to the new amount of frames per second. Similarly when you decrease the frames, frames are removed to make up the difference. There are a few methods of interpolation that will either look stuttery, blended, or warp-like vector motion. Removing frames generally introduces a slight jitter. I appreciate you subscribing. Keeping the channel going and editing as a freelancer daily kept me too busy. I started using Shutter Encoder software today to encode high quality video files down to a smaller size. I find that it produces amazing results as far as the video quality is concerned when I set it to variable bitrate, max quality and two pass. However the audio quality leaves much to be desired no matter what level I set the audio bitrate at. I am thinking that the problem here is that the VBR setting only applies to video and not audio? Is there a way to set the program to encode the audio in VBR as well? I should point out that the the source file's audio is 384 kbps AC3 and I'm trying to compress it down to 120 kbps AAC.

@@hannanfuadgamersindonesia6153 that's because those are compressed codecs and harder for your computer to work with in real time. Converting to a codec like Apple Prores or DNxHD will create bigger files, but smoother editing experience.

I don't use the webm format very often and also can't find where Shutter supports encoding to it. _BUT_ *Handbrake* does support encoding webm files via the *Format* dropdown under *Summary* . I’m a big fan of Handbrake too, but I like that Shutter can go straight from MKV to Prores. That’s something Handbrake can’t do. It’s also got a laundry list of other features that Handbrake doesn’t.

I tried to convert a .avi to a .mp4 and it didn't work. I found a workaround where I can convert it to .mkv first and then to .mp4. At least I only have to use a single program now. It's converting now, let's hope the quality really is lossless.

Yes you can, but realize all you’re doing is doubling the frames that are already there. If the source is 30 FPS, the additional 30 frames it takes to make 60 have to be interpolated and don’t “actually” exist.

@@Spideystrat To get what you're looking for, you'll need to use some software with vector-based interpolation. DaVinci Resolve's "speed warp" is probably your best option, but you could also try "optical flow" in Premiere. There's also Twixtor, which is a 3rd party plugin that is expensive, but gives great results.
