Respectfully, I think you really missed the mark, by saying the silicone grips are useless cosmetics. While I do think the comfort and armor of the grips isn't that important, that strap you put your hand through is extremely important to me, and I believe many other people. Why? ... Because it allows me to loosen my grip, and even let go of the controller anytime I want, without the controller falling out of my hand. Without that strap, you have to be continuously flexing your hand and forearm muscles to squeeze a full or at least partial fist. That can cause unnecessary soreness and fatigue in the short term, carpal tunnel syndrome in the longterm. I noticed the relief within an hour of buying those grips. No more hand, wrist or forearm fatigue and soreness, because I can relax my hand, without losing control of the controller. Thanks, for the rest of the video, though. I'm going to download that hip orientation app! Very cool!

As someone who uses Quest 2 controllers 100% of the time, maybe guy who uses Index 90% of the time should say, "Oh, that's true. The Index already has that hand strap feature, so that's why I shouldn't call it useless for Quest 2 users, all while showing Quest 2 controllers in the demonstration."

@@Huntington12345678 or someone can consider that comfort is subjective and as I stated more than once, to each their own. Just because I don't like it doesn't mean you won't or can't. I mentioned the straps are an added bonus but they just don't feel right to me. If you like them, awesome. I'm glad you find relief using them and being able to let go is indeed great. @@Huntington12345678 just because you and others enjoy the strap doesn’t mean that he has too or cater to the thoughts and feelings of individuals that are obviously feeling attacked because they love the strap so much and this man doesn’t. It’s really that simple because for example in a hypothetical scenario I could claim in my opinion that I personally really love driving new and old Ford Mustangs and say i believe that they’re more comfortable and faster then any other type of American muscle cars past or present. Then someone could respond and tell me I’m wrong and say why their favorite American muscle car is better when it comes to speed and overall comfortability while driving it. So even if that person is right or just truly believes otherwise still won’t have any relevance to me and what I like because I don’t have to cater to their needs while their feelings are getting hurt over me liking A specific car that isn’t their favorite specific car. I wouldn’t need them to do it for me either because the world doesn’t revolve around one single person and their personal preferences that they enjoy.

yeah another good thing about that 'daily driver' strap you've got (i have the same one), is that those holes in the back are the best thing for charging/link cables if you are using the headset tethered. Don't have to bother velcroing anything. Just push the cable through the hole in the top left, run it to the charging port, the cable is completely supported. If your battery can be charged while in use, you can use the other holes as cable guides for that as well.

One thing I loved about the Kiwi hand grips is that they hold the controller in place. The ones from VR cover we’re plastic that slid on, on multiple occasions the controller flew off the grip into the wall. Kiwis won’t do that. Maybe I’m just unlucky but it seems like a major design oversight. I was lucky I didn’t get hit in the head or hit someone else.

I love the Kiwi controller covers, precisely because, as you said, the Oculus controllers are quite slippery. Mind, I don't expect to be throwing them around, accidentally or otherwise. My space is big enough that I'm in no danger of whapping them into anything (and I bought a round 4x4-foot "you are here" carpet after doing just that)... but still, I appreciate feeling like the controllers are just a bit more securely in my hands when I use them. Going to have to check out the ones with the battery access, though; I'm using an older version of the covers, and it's definitely a pain to have to strip the controllers down to their skivvies, so to speak, to change the batteries out. Great video, as always, Matteo... I found myself looking very wistfully at the bHaptics vest!

About the grips for the controllers, i love them because of several reasons: 1. I don't make the actual controllers dirty in any way. It might because i can sweat a lot, but i tend to have markings on white controllers. Idk if that wouod ever happen with the quest controllers but just to be sure... 2. The little protection is better than nothing. I actually bump my controllers against each others sort of frequently (less than i used to), and the cover on my halos make me feel safer. 3. I never worried about them slipping, BUT, I just really like the material, imo it feels more comfortable and nice to the touch. I think that matters 4. It might depend on the brand but i love the handles, they make me feel like the controllers are more securely held. I don't have the issue you mention where it pinches your hand??? I think it might depend on how tight/brand you use. (In my case i believe it's the kiwi grip) 5. I do think they look very nice and the texture looks nice. The only thing i dislike is that I took the version that doesn't have the battery cover thing. I kinda regret it cause, although you don't need to change battery that often, getting the cover on the controller is a hassle, and the absence of that battery cover forces you to remove the cover and put them back on So if anyone is hesitating taking them or not, consider how useful you feel for it. If you considered it, it might be because you might like them. Obviously, they're not essential neither so if it's too expensive for you or if you don't think you need it, not need to take it. Feel tempted? I think it's worth the price imo; you just gotta know it's not gonna change too much As he said, it's also about his preferences so don't necessarily let his opinion stop you from getting them :)

Good video Matteo! I know you said you are not a big sim person (I wasn't either), but force feedback racing wheels pair incredibly well with VR. Force feedback wheels are not just wheels that spin around, they have haptic rumble, and motors that simulate what real car wheels feel like. If you are driving over rough terrain like in DiRT Rally, you will feel the wheel jerk in your hands if you hit a rock or stone, then if you drive over asphalt, it goes smooth. If you happen to crash, the wheel will jerk in the direction of the tires. DiRT Rally 2.0 with a racing wheel is 2nd to Alyx in VR immersion experiences for me. You are listening to the engine for when to shift, listening to the CO-Driver call out turns, feeling the road through the wheel, and control the pedals with your feet. And then you add all of that with the visual and auditory immersion of VR and it's an addictive experience, even for someone like me who doesn't like racing games or cars. A good entry-level wheel is the Logitech G29/920 and can be had for around $230-$250.

@@Gamingwithmatteo311 Understand completely! It's one of those things that I took a leap on, not knowing if I would like it or not and also not owning any racing games. Thankfully Amazon has a great 30-day return policy so I never felt fully committed to the purchase. But after using it for a few weeks, I consider it one of the best video game purchases I have ever made, and this comes from a guy who hated racing games until now. But maybe one of these companies could send you a demo unit or something. It would probably pair really well with the yaw motion chair. I could see DiRT Rally 2.0, being over the top immersive if you felt the roll of the car in turns or jumps.

KIWI design USB Radiator Fans Accessories for Valve Index. This accessory helps comfort over time especially if you're doing anything athletic in VR. Used in combination with silicone or pleather facial gaskets (which you mentioned not liking) really changes the experience of these gaskets. The problem with Silicone especially is it doesn't absorb sweat at all and so tends to build up moisture which is uncomfortable. The radiator fans prevent this by ejecting the humid air within the headset as well as cooling you down. Also the KIWI VR stand does have more than cosmetic use. I bought it to reclaim space on my desk that the VR gear was taking up when not in use. It reduces the footprint considerably, and also helps avoid kinking the Index cable when resting the headset on a flat surface. By the way, I do believe you about the KIWI sponsorship not affecting your video contents considering you recommended against every KIWI product you mentioned.

While you don't see the point in knuckle straps, many of us cannot go without them. As a high level competitive player in Echo Arena, it's very helpful to be able to completely let go of the controllers as needed. You should consider all case scenarios when doing a review. There are MANY games and situations where, even if ONLY for immersion, being able to let go of controllers is very useful...like, throwing grenades in fps games for another example. We seek total immersion when playing VR, so nothing breaks immersion more than throwing a grenade, yet still "holding it"...

@Matteo311 I got used to using the controller grips since the original touch controllers on the Oculus CV1. The added layer of silicone/plastic made the controllers more ergonomic. Also, with the controller's smooth plastic finish, it tends to slide out of my hands ever so slightly so I had to re-adjust my hold everytime. The knuckle straps also helps me stretch my fingers while waiting for round resets and easily grab the controllers again without fumbling if I only use the built-in lanyard. So for me, the grip but knuckle straps makes a hell of a difference.

I disagree about the handle straps. They are super functional. When you play for a few hours, hand fatigue sets in continually hokding the conteollers tuhht enouhh to have them not fly out. With the hand straps you can tighten them so thay you dont have to geip the conteoller. Some fo the straps come with friction pads so they stivk to your hand like glue once tighwtened. And you can take a breka from golding the controlker. I play beat saber while my hands are loose barely gripping the controller and its sooooo much more comfortable. Lot of good things in here to check out that I had no idea existed. I've been trying to decide on a gun stock for a long time now and the 3DGear one looks perfect if the magnet issue has been solved. Tracking based on a hip tracker and not head or hand would also be amazing. I wonder if that's possible with vive trackers also. I'll definitely try out that free app at the very least. I was just about to pull the trigger on the kiwi design pulley system, but that VR wire thing looks REALLY cool. Off to do a bit more research on that. I don't know if Index is your "daily driver" or not, but have you used any of the cooling fans for it? I'm trying to figure out if any of them are worth it, and the main problem I'm running into is no one is comparing any of them, only reviewing the one they picked. I don't get TOO hot, so my priority is one that is absolutely silent in-game but still at least a little beneficial.

I did eventually order a 3Dgear stock (the "all-rounder" model), and unfortunately it did not work well at all for at least Pavlov and Onward. The in-game guns didn't line up at all, and I couldn't shoulder the stock and see down the sights of the in-game guns. The owner told me through email he's working on an adjustable one and I would really like to try it when it's released, but with return shipping to Austria where he's located costing more than the product itself, I can't throw a buck fifty at it just in the hopes that it MIGHT work. Unfortunately I think I'm probably going to end up with just a magtube and not a more "real" stock. I also got a VR wire, and LOVE it. I just wish I had higher ceilings, I've hit my hand on it several times when throwing grenades. Unfortunately the main retractor base fell off the wall (used a command strip to mount), and then the fking gremlins came and stole it because the base is NOWHERE to be found. The rest was just dangling from the wire. I'm gonna have to ask them if they'll sell me just that piece.

I use the forcetube scout haptic stock with bhaptics x40 when i play pavlov and i got vive fbt for vrchat and blade and sorcery im waiting on some haptic sleeves in the mail too and man in combination all these things are so game changing. The only downside right now is accessibility of this high-priced stuff things are slowly starting to become more consumer-friendly though and I guess it's just a matter of waiting for the technology to become more affordable but man it already feels like I'm in 2077

The normal quest 2 strap is fine, but a elite strap is probbably a LOT better

Love your videos but sometimes the music is too loud in the background and I'd prefer to hear your voice a bit louder. I suppose this could be my headphones but I dont think so since it is channel specific. Love your videos though man!

yeah i think the straps on these grippy things are a massive missed opportunity. They put the top attachment point too damn close to the hand. So much so that it interferes with your ability to hold the controller at a sane angle for many games that theses sorts of things would be most useful (like beat saber). They also interfere with your ability to comfortably engage the damn trigger button, because they are pushing the top of your hand down below the level of the trigger, so you have to angle your index finger up at the first knuckle which is awkward and not comfortable.
