Trot-canter-trot transitions are a wonderful warm up exercise for any dressage horse. These transitions improve supleness and engagement. They also show illuminate issues in the connection and in the straightness. Give this warm up a try and let me know how it goes for you and your horse!

Beautifully demonstrated. My WDAA Basic Test 1 requires trot to canter transitions. When I practice I tell myself “be Amelia Newcomb”. Hahaha!

Very good riding. Your posture and fluidity and the saddle is wonderful. I'm sure the horse enjoys you as a smooth rider!

Great video and explanation. I will start out this transition to warm up my horse. I think with this he will definitely get more suppleness which we both need 😄

All your horses have such beautiful muscle tone, especially through their backs. I'd love to see a video about how you developed their toplines.

This is a great video - thank you ! I am doing this exercise with a lovely riding school horse that I am leasing at the moment . Our goals at the moment are working on lateral work ( turn on forehand , leg yield , shoulder in and some haunches in and out ) and trot and canter lengthening . He is an older horse . Can you suggest any other exercises that it is good to do in the warm up and how long to warm up before starting our ' goal ' exercises ?

So what specifically do you do when a horse pulls and gets heavy and does not want to stay in the contact?
@cleliaoconnell3705
@cleliaoconnell3705 4 жыл бұрын
First of all, find the reason: Watch that your contact is comfortable (not too hard, constant and equal on both reins) for him and that you respect the neck movement at walk and canter. Maybe his teeth hurt? His neck or back? There are many reasons that explain your problem, and it is only by solving these that the horse will change, and not instantly. When a horse picks up a bad habit you need time to undo it.

What are some good "cues" to teach horse to go from trot to canter, besides banging on his sides with your heels? How do you teach them?
@pumpkinprincess3786

i dunno bout her but usually I do outside leg behind, inside leg lift him into canter (not really kicking, more squishing), but some ppl use only their seat, in which case u can do a sitting trot and think and try to manifest the feeling of canter...
@LauraT193
@LauraT193 4 жыл бұрын
my horse falls in badly to the inside transitioning from canter to trot going left. I have been trying to initiate the downward with my inside leg ready to push her off and leg yield out and she does get the leg yield after a few steps but the first few steps out of the canter are really sloppy and it feels like she immediately pulls on my inside rein

Would it be possible to translate and add czech subtitles to your video? I would like to do it for making some of your videos accessible to spectators in Central Europe but the usual youtube possibility of adding subtitles freely it is not available. Thank you

Definitely not the best warm up. Horse is too deep and not long enough in the neck. The horse looks stiff and not supple at all.
