The walleye season just opened, the weather is gorgeous and the fish are biting like crazy. One of the most common questions Gord gets from walleye anglers is, "Should I vertically jig, or should I troll?"
The answer? Yes!

Hello Gord. Thanks for your great videos. They are the next best thing to actually being on the lake. I was wondering if you could tell me what weight bottom bouncers you recommend for say 20ft of water.. Rob

If there's a favourable wind my favourite thing to do is drift SUPER light knuckle ball jigs 1/8, 1/16 oz just enough to make bottom contact.

@@michaeltheobald8298 I had a canoe for many years - never thought I could afford a boat. Turns out that you can pick up a used 14' Mirrocraft aluminum fishing boat with trailer, motor, and accessories for around $1000-$1200. I really regret waiting so long to buy a boat - SO much nicer than fishing out of my canoe!

Try a bridge over an inlet river. Go in the morning before the sun comes up and cast a lure, or live bait. Ive had good luck with just letting live bait sit, however, if you just leave a crawler on the bottom, something other than walleye is likely to pick it up. I like a rooster tail with a crawler hanging off, or jigging right under the bridge

So very true Gord!! When I was guiding up in the Earl falls area the bite was soooo bad, we weren't even getting a nibble. We were throwing everything except the kitchen sink, so I was looking through my tackle and saw my slip bobbers. while my guests were pounding the water with everything. Rigged up and tossed it out with a minnow, no more than 30 seconds later my bobber slowly went on it's side. I was a little confused, so I slowly reeled up felt so weight and set the hook a nice 18 incher!! Then another one and another one. Needless to say I gave my guest some of my rigs and we started to pound them. What looked to be a washout day became a success!!!

gord. if you find 1 trolling do you generally make a couple more passes before you start to finesse them?
@CanadianAnglingAdventures
@CanadianAnglingAdventures 7 жыл бұрын
Yes, usually, although a lot depends on how tightly I find them grouped up. If they're scattered, for sure another pass or two. But if they're concentrated, break out the jig!

Deep trolling cranks can only be done with lead core line ???? WHAT ??? Update.... 3 ways work even better. Heavy weight on the dropper line will keep the crank closer to the boat so you can follow break lines. Kinda like a down rigger. They work too, but Shhhhh, we won't tell anyone about that BIG secret either.
