As a beginner so late in life (50) and researching how to fish to help my son fall in love with a sport not available to me at his age is exhausting. Your advice in one video has been terrifically simple to understand. Understanding what is happening under the water by properly working your jig was eye opening. Definitely won over a subscriber who wants to pass on the experience to my son.

Nice video Tom. Now here is my tip to you and everyone else. It always seems like some one in the Boat will have the hot rod when Jig fishing and out catching other people in the boat. If this is happening to me it's time for a Beer or Coffee and watch the person who is catching the most fish see what color they are using and how they are rigging there bait and how they are working there Rod this is very important. I have seen where dragging a jig where it will out catch a jig hopping it, but this is usually when the water is cold I'm talking 33-38F they just will not chase a bait very far. But every day is unto itself, and remember sometimes watching someone can teach you a lot. TC

We do a guided boat trip every year in Lake of the Woods...we have 3 fish on at a time alot. But I often catch more fish when we all have the same rig. I always walk my jig 6 inches at a time. It's also important to always choose the same side of the boat as the guide. Most often a guide will put the fish infront of him.

Huge fan of the Piscifun reels. Got my first CarbonX 1000 a year ago and , picked up two more soon after. The 1000 is the smallest size, works great for jigging walleye and is also a fantastic panfish reel. will also be picking up a couple size 2000 to replace a couple rigging/trolling reels (pfluegers), ( or likely just buy more rods for new reels, don't tell my wife, can never have too many combos ) Tight Lines. Huge Piscifun Endorsement. They are exactly as you describe. The Carbon X compares to the Diawa Tatula, or the Okuma Helios only just over a 1/4 the price. I honestly believe the Piscifun reels are better.

Piscifun looks like a great reel, especially for the price. I use shimano, but have not been happy with them lately. I just spent 8 days in Winnecone, the walleye were incredible, but had to clean and lube my reels twice, during the trip. Seems like their quality has dropped lately, I'm looking for something better. Thanks for all the tips. With your help, I've gone from throwing a line, and hoping for anything, to knowing what I'm doing, targeting and landing nice fish. My buddies notice, and can't believe the difference. Please keep the videos coming. Thanks

Really enjoyed the video. My brother and I do most of my walleye fishing in NE Ontario. Typically the walleye in the lake we fish are in 35 to 60 feet depth and we back troll using jigs. On a good day we catch (and release) 75 to 100 and on a really bad day between 20 to 30. I can’t wait to try the reel next summer. If we like it most of our friends will follow suit.

May I ask where you fish in north east Ontario? I’d like to take my parents who are both 76, and love pickerel fishing. They’ve always gone to Napanee, but the campground is all permanents now, and they’ve slowed down in ability, now looking at some final years to get them out on the water while they can.

Pre spawn, around here, the drag method works. I was shore fishing, with guys all around me, and they were whipping the jig up like you, not catching a damn thing. I dragged mine and had my limit in 2 hours. I wouldn't totally eliminate the drag method. When the walleye are about to spawn or post spawn, they ain't chasing much but will strike a slower presentation.
