I really enjoy your teaching!!!! I made (learned) how to make the pinafores from you! But making clothes…. I don’t think so!

Thank you. I'm glad you enjoyed the pinafores. Making clothes isn't much different if you're ever tempted ;-)

Another great one Mary. Just wanted to ask you what size is your Rotary Mat please, and where did you get it from? I’m based in the Uk and dying to get one for precision cutting, but the ones I’ve looked at don’t seem to be so large. 😕 Also what size cutter would you recommend for general sewing? I look forward to your response...

Thank you. I have a set of three Olfa brand cutting mats. They came as a set. They are 36" x 23" each. I bought them at a chain sewing store Joann's when they were on sale. Olfa brand is pretty popular so might be easy to find. I bought them 10 (at least) years ago and they are still looking good. My rotary cutter is also Olfa. I use the 45mm size cutter almost always. Last year I bought a 28mm size rotary cutter to cut tight curves easier, and it does make it easier to cut armholes, BUT I usually forget I have it and just use the 45mm cutter. So that is a good all-purpose size I would say. I'm excited that you're getting excited to sew. I don't sew every day but I really enjoy it when I can, and even though certain steps can be boring or tricky and fitting can be frustrating, it is a wonderful feeling to know you can make your own clothes.

@@TheDailySew Totally agree with you Mary on the wonderful feeling, especially when people ask you where you bought it from! 🤗 And thank you for all that helpful Rotary mat and cutter information. I will definitely look into them.... 👍🏾

thank you. I have a big knit zig zag to work with, I am sewing pants. I thought I would cut out one piece at a time ( a front) and just lay the other piece on the fabric to cut the second piece underneath it, Did not think about this issue when I bought the fabric...lol....now it has me at a dead lock for the moment.. This would look really bad if it didnt line up.
@TheDailySew3 жыл бұрын
I know that dead lock feeling. Your pants would look great if the zig zags could line up at the outside seams but don't let that stop you from making them. Better done than perfect, right? Just cut your pieces one at a time from a single layer of fabric and do your best to match what you can. Don't worry about that inside seam. And if your fabric is really busy it will be hard to notice that the pattern doesn't line up perfectly. Good luck. I'm happy someone is going to wear zig zag pants - making the world a little more fun wherever you go ;-)

@@TheDailySew I did exactly that and ended up cutting two of the same back pieces forgetting to turn the pattern...arrrggghhh.......but alas I did it. Now to sew them and try to math it up as best as I can. I think I over thought this way to much. I was having some tension problems with my machine so I used some of the scrap fabric to practice sewing on and when I looked at the scraps not lining up it didnt look bad at all.

@@Valkyriepedersen oh my goodness - I know all about overthinking and making mistakes. I just told my sewing friends that if there is a mistake to be made I will do it. Someone has to, right? I'm glad the stripes/zigzags aren't going to be that big of a deal after all.

I'm so sorry your left shoulder stripe didn't line up! It's all about practice, practice, practice. Thanks.
