Great video and excellent tips. When I was a beginner sewer, I was always very careful matching plaid wool fabric for my skirts. I never failed! Why? Just cutting fabric as separate pieces. Not even difficult. I am an artist and a stickler for wonky, mis matched seams-LOL! Taking time to do things as professionally as possible is always well worth a few extra minutes of careful basting, too, prior to machine sewing.

I can't tell you how grateful I was to find your video on this topic! I'm extremely nervous about sewing a new shirt for my husband anyway because I have never made one and when he picked out plaid fabric for it I cringed inside! After watching your video I feel better about tackling this project. Great advice and suggestions, I thank you much!😅

I needed a refresher after not having matched a plaid in years...doing 3 shirts for my daughter. Cutting is my least favorite part of sewing, but is so essential with plaids, of course. Thanks!

Thank you for this. Even professor pincushion made it too complicated, but you didn’t!

Thank you Beth. One tip I have been given is to use washable Wondertape, which I have found really good for stripe matching and colour blocking😁👍

lynne PRENTICE Not me, because you can't just throw wool into the washer, plus it is so easy to match once you cut separate pieces out and baste prior to sewing with machine.Saves money on gimmicks when too simple to just do correctly from the get-go. My opinion. 😊

This was SO helpful, thank you. I have a tiny striped jersey fabric that I was really wondering how to cut to ensure everything matched up in the finished dress!

What translucent paper do you recommend for tracing pattern?
@SewDIY3 жыл бұрын
The last few years, I've found rolls of tracing paper at the art supply store that are a decent price. You can also buy cheap rolls of tracing paper on Amazon that are for medical supply. Those are cheap but in my experience very thin and tear easily.

Can you make new vlog about plaid dress skirt especially bottom one? I’m trying to figure out with two cut fold. I was like how do I keep it match if it’s on side seams? Help me!!! Ahhh

I beat myself up when I sewed my first western shirt out of 12 0z. denim so why shouldn't I beat myself up matching my plaids on my second shirt. Seams natural to me. My wife said that if I buy a shirt at LL Bean that the seams will match but if I buy a shirt at Walmart they won't. I've never bought a shirt at LL Bean. So why would I match my plaids. I dunno-but I'm goin' in!
