A lot of people give people shit for using caulk, and these techniques shown here, but honestly, I think using caulk on trim to close that gap, and paint to finish is better looking than seeing a tiny gap. It ties everything "together" and from ceiling to floor it's seemless.

I refinished my crappy baseboards that were nearly impossible to remove with dry dex. Gave them a skim coat, sanded and painted. They look so much better. I would have removed the baseboards but I live in an old house and the drywall was installed over the old baseboards so they were really difficult to get out. Dry Dex saved the day.

Thank you for this! I would love to see a video where you explain the different types of caulks and sealers, including where you would use each (baseboard holes, baseboard gaps, wall holes, wall cracks, sinks, tubs, showers, countertops, etc.) and WHY you use each for a particular application/location. Also, your pup is tuuuuute!
@xacresestate

Thanks! Great suggestion for another video. I do have a video coming soon on patching various drywall holes and patching crown but its caulk and sealers is an animal in itself. As a general rule, fixed holes, where there is no movement (nail hole, patches ) you can use drydex, wood filller, spackle, drywall mud etc and for corners or joints (between same material or different materials) you want to use a caulk, and then a rabbit hole opens up for wet/dry locations and brands... Pup is a handful! Thanks for the comment! Appreciate the feedback.

Don't use premixed to fill nail recesses, use the powered (hot) mud. It does not shrink as much as premixed and dries fast. If done right, no sanding is needed. Apply with finger, wipe off excess with damp rag.

@xacresestate
@xacresestate 2 жыл бұрын
Hi there, Yes, Alex plus spackling and drydex are really interchangeable. Both essentially do the same thing, just personal preference for drydex. I would use either on nail holes, outside corner trim, & minor drywall repair, always caulk inside corners, 2 mating pieces or trim to drywall gaps. Best thing to do is try all and find one that suites you, good thing about all DAP products is its easily removable if needed ha ha. Good luck with the project

Why use that stupid gun to fire the nails in? Just use a decent panel pin and knock it in slightly lower than flush. You don't need so many nails and once you undercoat and paint you don't see them. Use a hammer the old fashioned way, so much better than these quick apparently time saving nail guns.
