Hopefully this helps answer some of the questions I have been getting lately.

This seems like one of those topics no one wants to talk about, but I think transparency only build trust and reinforces the genuineness of not only someone on your side of the industry but also the companies that sell the product. Either that or exposes the people/brands/companies to avoid.

My youngest son is a guide and worked for a company who was an ambassador for a line of gear. My son gets trip with three individuals, one was a photographer (client) and the other were his friends (of the client) one of which was a rep for the gear company the outfitter was the ambassador. Well my son was told nothing except use your expertise to get the client his photo's. Well my son pays for his own gear which is not usually the same as what his boss promotes for his partner gear company. Well the word got back and my son was fired. A few months later my son gets some gear in the mail, I think backpacks, from photographer but from gear company his friend works for, thanking him for what he did on the trip.

Well that sucks! Our guys use whatever gear they want for the most part. Usually if the outfitter wants the guides to use certain gear it's best to give it to the guides or give them a really good deal on buying that specific gear. When creating content for brands it's important to let everyone know what they can and can't use. Sounds like someone dropped the ball and your son took the blame.

Great video, my friend. The last review I did on my website was a decade ago. Back then I received a lot of stuff, some great and some garbage, from companies in trade for coverage. At first I thought it was great to get some gear but after a time, I felt like a cheap date and it wasn't for me. Sadly, I got caught up in some hype and I felt like I was pimping stuff that in some cases I didn't care for and I couldn't square that circle. I felt that when you mentioned companies dropping a relationship because you didn't post about it enough. That got old real quick because their items were cool but how often can you talk about something without being a schill. There are some companies from back then that I'll support to the end because they're as solid as it gets and they've always done right by me and continue to.

Yeah I sometimes think about getting out of the whole thing as well, but I have made some great connections and every once in a while I'll find some really cool new gear.

Also if you work with X and Y wants to work with you, its good manners to ask from X is there conflict of interest with Y. I just had this 2 months ago and only last week saw that X launched competetive product to Y, which X didnt want to tell me about at the time i asked

If you asked and they didn't tell you the truth, what else are they not telling you about? Like I said it's a 2 way street. Need to be able to trust the brands you're working with.
