Why I play? It's almost like a meditation, focusing totally on the music, allowing the viola to express feelings I am not even aware of, it both calms & re- energizes me, it challenges me ( all the time!)... it's just good for the psyche..

Playing viola is not only fun on its own, but an amazing experience when you play with others. Region, school orchestra, string camps, all of these have led to connections with musicians from all around. It's just the most awesome thing when you're in a group of complete strangers and can participate in learning to play a complex piece.

How'd you know I was just watching motivational videos? LOL thanks for this. :) I'm an actor, so "playing" has a slightly different definition, but I play because it's the biggest part of me, and I can't NOT play. I love developing characters, and right now I'm loving the sound of the audience laughing at the comedy I'm touring with. The greatest reward :)

My favorite part of music is playing with other people. Each person is unique and brings their own character and flavor to any song we're playing. When you're on the stage playing your heart out along people who love the art just as much as you do, there isn't another feeling like it in the world.

The main reason I love playing music is because it resonates with me in a way nothing else could. I feel the notes, chords, and progressions go through develop a feeling of satisfaction. Music, it in of itself, is the reason I love it so.

I play because of the connections, expression, meaning, growth, feeling and worth it brings. One doesn't have to be the best in order to show that. Growing and maturing through music allows you to convey something beyond words. That brings hearts and thoughts closer. It allows you to feel and be a part of something greater than yourself. It's the language that anyone can understand and I honestly think it's one of, if not the, most beautiful things in the world.

I started playing and singing just for fun when I was a little kid. Now I continue because I realised that through music I can bring joy to many people, I can somehow help them doing something I love. I also love.the feeling of being lost in the music, with neither worries nor concerns, being fully engaged with what I'm playing

This might sound cliche or silly, but I love to play because I love the feeling music gives me. When I have problems with friends, family, school, etc. I can pick up my instrument or put in my headphones and experience a temporary high where I can escape from my problems. 😊

The reason why I play music is for the freedom of creativity and the joy of learning. My goal and the reason why i practice is to get to a point where i can play anything i want and just be able to write songs and play them on guitar/saxophone/piano (I play 4 instruments). I remember starting in music and just wanting to be able to create the music i enjoy hearing and being able to preform to others, but i would also say for the joy of mastering technique on the instruments I play (In particular guitar). Music aside, sometimes i enjoy just sitting down with my guitar and just experimenting with it to write a song and get different sounds, that alone is a fun experience. I would also say for the joy of playing with others in a band, working together to contribute and produce one sound. I guess really in the end I play so I can create music and preform with/to others. Btw your videos are awesome and inspiring ^_^

I like to play because It's something Im good and I can see myself doing it in years coming. Music is something I've always loved and when I saw the opportunity to take orchestra I didnt pass it up. It was one of those moments of "huh that looks cool, let me try it", and because of that moment I've unlocked so many things that I never thought I could do.

very deep meaning.. I play music because I have something to say. I do most of the listening in most of my adult conversations im involved in (just works for me) .. so in music I have a small window of time to say what I want to say how I want to say it... so I make sure I express what needs to be expressed while I can do it.

I totally relate to the language/relationship thing, and I wanted to share an experience. I went on a trip to Russia, and I got a chance to play with a drummer in a small studio (I am a jazz pianist btw). He hardly spoke english, I don't speak Russian, but we had the most awesome jam session! For real, we just communicated musically, and we both had so much fun. I would start a riff, he would jump in, and visa versa. And now we are friends! And so yes, building relationships with music is so powerful.

I play viola because it's a way to express myself in a way that my words cannot speak. It puts me in my happiest state of mind and I'm playing my viola or ukulele or piano. It's brought me countless opportunities that have given me millions of memories thy I will never forget. Once I had to write about why I play music and why I enjoy to he accepted into the Tri-M music honors society. I had to keep it under 500 words but it was nearly impossible because music means so much to me. I play for enjoyment, I play for laughter, I play to let all my feelings out. I always say "where words fail, music speaks" and thus quote has always kept me motivated

Why do I play? I play so I can hide a little less from people. I'm a bassist in a very diverse yet divided school, and we honestly don't know each other at all, but something about performing in a random mall pulls everyone's personality out. We might hate each other for 23 hours, but that 1 hour of playing, communicating with no words, get us to learn everyone else like no other thing in the world. And that's pretty amazing.

Everyone should strive to speak more than one language especially in this time of global politics. Music is the international language and with it one can communicate with anyone in the world. Music is a powerful tool. As an old lady, music allows me to make friends of all age categories. Music keeps me fresh, excited and young at heart. When no one is around to accompany me my Ruby Tuesday (guitars name), will be waiting for my caress. I hold her like a life-time partner whom will never abandon me. I have never seen a youtube video which garnered as many comments as ViolaKid. That is an extradinary question. I'm sending out love to all the musicians who were moved to respond to your question.

Playing Viola for me calms my anxiety. When I'm playing, it's just me and the Viola, not anyone else. I get to be a part of this amazing group of people and they're all so great and I want to be as good as them someday. I just got lost when I auditioned to be section leader, but I'm really glad I did. Why? It made me mad. It motivates me. I noticed how much I was practicing before and after the audition, and it was the most I practiced at home in years. Someday, I want to be good and be confident in my skill and I will get there, no matter how long it takes.

well, I'm a 15 years old cellist and music is probably the most important part in my life at this time... when anyone asks me about my hobbies or sth like that, I can say with proudness that I am a musician. So it's kinda my identification and I wanna say the same words to everyone who asks me in my entire future life. Another reason is, that I love listening to classical music and its awesome, lovely, funny, sad melodies. And the only next level I can imagine is to play for myself :D u know what I mean?and by the way.. playing music or talking about music with friends is one of the funniest activities I know and when I'm thinking like:"I could do that all my life, when i'm practicing enough" I'm on fire :D

Well, I have been playing the piano since I`m 6 years old. Now I`m 18 and I`m on my final year of music college. It was really hard last weeks, that`s why I try to find motivation. It`s weird but I don`t really know why I still do it. Maybe this is the problem and I should think about that now before I decide whether I have to go to conservatory or not. Thank you for this video and for your channel! You are such an inspirational musician. Hugs from Ukraine :)

Why do I play music?, that´s a really good question that hardly no one ask themselves. Day after day I keep seeing my friends and colleagues making music as if it is part of their rutine, but they didn´t seem to be passioned about it... neither did I since the past few months, when I kinda "woke up" (so glad I did it!). So, I would say I play my instrument, the violin, in order to see my life from another point of view, that helps in solving my problems. I also love reading, and I find books and music very similar: the more books you read, the more open - minded you´ll be, and same happens with music. Moreover, as you said in this video, I find that music is a world where nobody can´t hide their personality and when we are making music we can really know how each person is. For example, I´m a kinda shy girl, so that it´s being reflected in my playing, though I would like to be more outgoing... oh yeah, I think I´ve just found another reason for playing the violin! I play to build my personality! I´m improving and I hope I reach that goal one day! I would like to add that I´ve just discovered you here in KZbin, I´ve been watching a couple of videos and I love the way you express yourself! You seem so humble, thank you for inspiring us!!! :) Keep doing! Best wishes.

You may or may not want to read all the things I listed here lol My why: I just LOVE ❤💖 MUSIC. Also, I want to be the best version of myself I can be. I want to show the world all the things I can offer and that I may be a game changer. I want to help as many people as I find in my lifetime and make them feel special. I want people to like me for who I truly am and for my message. I just don't want to be someone who plays music; I want to be somebody who connects on a deep level with my audience and leave them feeling great after going to my sold out concert (😎 nothing wrong w/ that though) or listened to a song by me. I'd love to get recognition for my work too in the future.

It's a bit convoluted to me. I like the physical work out I get from playing and I like the science and art behind it. I like blending and balancing sounds together with composition and realizing it with performance. Yet I have been investing in a greater deal of the former than the latter. I sometimes feel the pressure to be pigeonholed as a 'cellist' and a 'cellist' only - not a composer, sonic artist and multi-instrumentalist. I feel myself deviating from what is generally conceived of as a "classical musician . I like jazz fusion third stream, post-minimalism, new music, post-bop, spectralism, IDM and leftfield electronic music more than the canon repertoire (still have huge respect for HIP and 20th century material) I love connecting with people, but I love connecting with my generation especially, particularly visual arts, queer and alternative communities. I don't want to be playing and writing for just rich, white and Asian people - the problem of whiteness and classism is killing the concert music profession.

The MOST important reasons I play are: 1. To bring glory to my God, Jesus. 2. To express me, my feelings, my problems, etc. 3. To create beautiful art 1. I was told that I had a musical gift from when I hit piano keys on a dusty keyboard to playing first chair cello at Region. And my family has told me to use this to bring glory to Jesus in times like this so when people hear me play and wonder why I'm good at what I do, I can say it's because of him. 2. As a teenager, I and many other teens tend to bottle up our emotions, feelings, and problems we go through just to maintain a fake reputation. These days, many teens go through problems with their family, education, emotions, sexual orientation, and relationships and little of them decide to talk about it, so I play so that even though I don't say anything, people can understand me and maybe even if I'm struggling with anything. Heck! I'm a closeted gay in a Christian family! Music has always fascinated me with its beauty, interpretations, meanings, and complexity that I wanted to get into the action! I now have learned the violin, viola, cello, bass, piano, ukulele, and melodica and I'm becoming a freshman next year! I want to go to Booker T Washington High School (I'm waitlisted as of 8/6/17) and hopefully Juilliard like TVK. I don't know what my future holds, but I'm sure God wants me somewhere in the Music industry. Also, hopefully soon I will start to upload videos of me playing instruments either by myself or with friends (starting before school starts in Dallas) on my channel, so if for some reason you read my comment all the way down here, I would greatly appreciate it if you checked out my channel and see if I hadn't chickened out of this idea. 😅 Thank You for reading this... whoever decided to read it. 😊
