Hi TVK! I missed the uploads! I'm a composer and a violist, and I have a question about DistroKid: do you have to have your music copyrighted before you upload it there? Love the work! Please keep it up!

It's a good idea to have your work copyrighted before you distribute it, otherwise, someone can claim it as their own. I don't think it's a requirement though.

You the Man TVK this video is great I'm a guitarist but find inspiration from your vids I'm about to go into my last year of study for degree in music and am a bit apprehensive about whether I will be able to finically survive in the business and what makes it a little tougher is the fact that I have a disability so people judge me before they hear me play. But videos like yours make me excited to go out and try make a living in this world Thanks TVK!
@ThatViolaKid6 жыл бұрын
I honestly think your disability could be your advantage bro! But at the end of the day, people only care about the music. Make good tunes, and people will love you for it :)

Our boy IS BACK!!! I am so proud haha, seriously. Also, thanks for this! I am composing my music because I want to be able to live off of my own music in the long term 😎. I already knew about Distrokid. $ 20 is great for all that they offer! EDIT: THANKS FOR SAYING THIS!! PEOPLE NEED TO KNOW! I've been studying this book called "Everything you need to know about the Music Business". It was written by Donald Passman (a lawyer) and teaches you in a comprehensive way, you should check it out.

Great video! Thanks for the tips! Quick question: I'm a young composer and I was wondering if you had any tips in terms of how I can get more performances of my music while I'm still in college. Also do have any other tips for getting my music into the hands of the right people? Thanks!

Playing music is something I've been doing since high school. And over the years relied on sheet music and took the reading note-by-note approach. I've seen a lot of music students do the same as well. Met some kids who got enrolled into the Suzuki & Yamaha music program. And they would play their scales and pieces assigned by their teachers. They struggled even playing off sheet music. Composing an original piece or even rearranging someone else's piece would be light years away. Besides learning pieces written by other people, students are not encouraged to come up with their own pieces based on their own ideas. I've seen 1 KZbinr who played all sorts of Pop songs but in a boring way. Every piece sounded straight from the sheet music note-by-note without embellishments. Personally I haven't started composing in a serious way but like to take sheet music and rearrange them because the bass isn't to my liking or I don't like the Key a piece is written.

I am a composer and I do already record a lot of my music (much more casually as I am normally writing for specific performances) I could post my stuff on spotify but feel as if it wouldn't really get any exposure (I have virtually no internet presence). I know there are many people, such as yourself, who can be very personable on KZbin and other platforms which I am sure is the most crucial medium to spread their music. However I am a very private person so this route for me would inevitably feel forced. Do you have any advice for me, particularly PR kinds of things?
@ThatViolaKid6 жыл бұрын
If you never put anything out, no one will know about you. That's all there is to it. 1 listener is better than 0, and you never know who will come across your stuff. Also, you have to realized that your putting it up today means that even 7 years down the road, someone influential can come across your stuff!!
@NickSievers16 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the help! I took your advice and just put some stuff out through distrokid!
