Professor Emma, my idea is a bit different. In my process of learning vocabulary, I am trying to find the sentences in which the entry word the speakers would like to use. Then 1st level - pronunciation, noun verb forms. Variants of pronunciation. This level of studies includes at least two basic meanings of an entry word. Never more than three. The second level more example sentences, and more meanings according to my interests. The third level, the meanings of entry which should always be in an easy accessible shelf, then those which may remain passive. This is very important division since the method of learning ( memorising) is different depending to the way I would suppose to apply words in my speech and writing. The Diki online dictionary is my basic tool (a huge online English-Polish and vice a versa, loads of recorded sentences, and phrases), next two dictionaries are Cambridge and M-W.
