I think it's brave to heat up the threading die during tempering without checking what temperature is reached. I would also be interested to know how threads can be cut in 1.2210 steel. I have my doubts.
@Mastermind-
@Mastermind- 6 ай бұрын
In fact, you can get the answer to your questions by looking carefully at the end result of the work and the smooth and shiny surface of the thread.

Hallo and congratulations for you job and excellent video. My question is, when you drop it in oil for hardening, then you put it in the fire again. Why? Thanks and carry on your good job. Spiros
@Mastermind-

Hello my dear friend Yes, correct This is to reduce the hardness of the steel so that it does not become brittle In other words, relieved

It's called 'tempering', reheating at a lesser temperature and let it cool in air. Was a student of metal work 53 years ago.

Increíble , taladras para roscar después y en vez de continuar el taladro vas y le das la vuelta a la pieza?...te daba miedo hacer el taladro pasante? que se podría terminar en el torno, anda apaga y vámonos.

Personally, I find it time-consuming to make a die and a die-holder worth less than $40 in the shops, but you've managed to do it.
@growleym504
@growleym504 7 ай бұрын
For standard sizes and threads, you are absolutely correct. You may never need a non standard threading. Or a tool of non standard configuration for use in a confined space. Some tools such as bottoming taps can be hard to source and expensive though I have made them from normal standard taps. Anyway I thought it was a good vid though I admit I did skip past some places.

For a standard size Die this is true, but many times you are requiring a multi start Die of odd dia and TPI, then this technique is the only solution, and the $40 Die holder is probably a chinese one made from Mazac. Chris B.

I thought the same! I always screwcut the thread, then bore the 4 holes after, it does not damage the threads at all, and the thought of those 4 plugs turning and locking up gives me the sweats. Chris B.

What you've made here is a thread chaser, not a die. Dies have an involute relief entrance ground in for starting, thread chasers typically do not. A "Master mind" would know this.
