Perhaps a pro detailer could do it, but I wouldn't recommend doing this to your car yourself if you have no experience. I ruined my clearcoat thanks to this video and now need a respray.

You can tell this guy's a pro because the way he's doing it, it looks like he doesn't give a shit because it comes so naturally to him, but it's still turning out perfect anyway, even with black paint.

All stone chip videos omit top coat 😱 which puzzles me. Yes it’s probably a near match but by top coating you go a step further to protect the chip and allow compounding to blend it in. This is the best video I’ve seen on how to deal with chips.

The best rock chip repair video and result on KZbin in my humble opinion. He did an excellent and clean job. Every other video I've seen the result usually has a crater/indentation after polishing. Don't rush it. He Bob Ross'd it for me. I have a lot rock chips though. I'll just take me time, wait til spring and hop to it without trying to finish quickly but finish thoroughly. StarFire pearl is one of the best colors ever crafted.

A while ago I did this, unfortunately I couldn’t control the pressure as much as I was careful and left a bit of scuff marks on the car. Then I went through a rabbit hole trying to fix the mess. Moral of the story, either practice on some cheaper cars first or just take it to a body shop.

I gotta admit, I was truly skeptical about the way you applied on the paint, where I was told to leave the paint a little higher than the chipped out area, let it cure for 24 hours, THEN sand it. Your results were spectacular and very expedient to say the least! The video was easy to understand and just overall very good! A+ 👍😎

Don't do this to your vehicle, the polish will wash off in the rain and the scratches will be visible again. The only way to fix it is to apply several layers of clear coat again.

@@X152535 FALSE. Stop posting false statements unless you know how to properly polish a car. That's is NOT how polish works. I paint correct one fender on my car and nothing else. The compound/polishing is sill the shiniest part of the car after multiple washes and it sits out in the weather in an open parking lot.
@TubeWatcher
@TubeWatcher Жыл бұрын
@@X152535 FYI: Some auto bodyshops do this daily after painting a car. There is no way to avoid orange peel. Even factory finishes have it. Wet sanding an entire car followed by compound and polishing will not simply wash off. There is no way rain, water and a basic wash can strip all those chemicals to leave a rough sanded finish. If you have a washing solution that can do that, you might want to reconsider the long term effects of what it will do to your car's paint.

A very nice job. That gives me the confidence to have a go myself. Years ago I bought a black BMW that had a large paint chip missing from the bonnet. I think the previous owner had run under something. I made sure it was clean and then built up the paint using a chip repair paint with a brush. I ended up with a build up of paint higher than the surrounding area. I then used T Cut to take it down. Finally polished it and most people wouldn't have known it has been done.

Watched this the other day and this blew my mind. Always skeptical rubbing any kind of sand paper on paint. Tried it out on my new truck with a chip that same size. Black paint might make this an easier job. Truck is black too. Gave it a go and came out amazing actually. Didn’t use clear though. Still came out like clear was on it. So tried this on PPF on the front. Rock chip thru the film onto the metal bumper. What’s to lose right? Was actually able to do the same work over the paint film too. That part took a little longer working on the clear film. Very happy with the end result. Great video super inspiring!

Really good tip about going from the coarse to finer grade sandpaper and enlarging the area at the same time. I guess this creates the blending effect and most other videos I watched gloss over this detail. I also like how you used a buffer pad on a drill. I didn't know you could get results this good. I have a few scratches around my A pillar and inside the door frame where someone tried to jimmy open the door and they are such an eye sore, but I may attempt a repair. Fantastic job! Does the paint need to be thinned down to work with that method? The problem I have always had with leveling chip repairs is the factory paint is harder than what is being used to touch up. By the time you correct the 2k grit scratches out of the original paint, the chip is no longer level. I haven't used a heat gun to cure the paint or clearcoat on top of the color so maybe those two things would help. Great work - I need to give it another go I guess.

I've noticed alot of people use 2000 to try and level the paint. This is a bad idea and usually just starts to sand down around the chip.. rather than the chip blob itself. On German cars I even use 1200 as a 1st grit. 1500 at least should be used 1st.

Tip: DON'T DO THIS. Just touch up with a bit of paint and leave it. DON'T SAND IT and DON'T MESS WITH THE CLEARCOAT, especially if you have a newer car. Thanks to this video, I burned my clearcoat and now need a respray at a body shop. I barely touched it with a 1500. The clearcoat layer is very thin on newer cars.

This will 100% work with waterborne paint. I’ve it done many times. Edit: I like that he said it’s 95% better. Honestly that’s what touch up paint is for. If you want it 💯 you need to respray the panel imo.

Yeah, you could get the whole door sprayed and that may leave some imperfections most people can let go of that 5%

Good job. Despite that, most people lack tools, a place to work and most importantly: the lack of skill that is required for a satisfactory result. Having said that, once there's a chip you're pretty much screwed unless you do one of two things: you let a shop fix it or you buy a touch up pen and accept the fact that it's as good as it's going to get unless you spend a fortune.

I dont agree i think alot if people do have the tools and it can be done anywhere for a few £££.

Thank You so much for this tutorial, I watch the video couple times, and follow along, The cure time for the paint and clear was pretty fast, about 7-9 min for each using a heat gun. Also since it was the first time, I use 2500/2000 grid. Everything came out perfect. Thanks.

I was thinking of doing a one-step on my entire car. Should I do the one-step on the entire car first and then address the chips or should I do the chips first, allow the paint to cure completely for 30 days and then do the one-step? Great videos, they have been very helpful to me.

At fkng last. This is the whole, right thing to do. Every colour fix needs sandpaper and some rubbing with polishing machine. Otherwise, it's just a blop of fresh paint. Thank you for your fine presentation !

Absolutely the simplest and most effective way to fix rock chips! Thank you for sharing the best and cheapest way to do it! Have a quick question..I have to remove the paint off the rock chip that was poorly done by the dealership. It’s blotted. What would you be the best and easiest way to remove it? What product to use so I clear the messy work? I’ll follow your guidance. Thanks so much!

Hands down the best and easiest. I have probably 30 or so rock chips that are small on my g70 3.3t. Thank you for this video. Makes me feel better about doing this job. I can afford to have it resprayed, but I don't see the point when it will just get like that again. I would rather learn to fix it myself
