My choice is Safe Way. Plus, they are cheap and Krogers sells them. The key is a uniform crunch and bite thru the skin and pickle with no mushiness or harder skin. Mt. Olive is 2nd. My favorite brine is Vlasic Sweet Heat. I grow and make my own pickles. Fermenting is a must. It gives me that uniform crunch and bite thru the skin and pickle. Brine flavor you can control and spice it how you like. Buy a couple of brands. Compare and contrast. More expensive ones aren’t necessarily worth the cost.

Hmmm, I might have to give a few other brands a try after reading through the comments. I've always bought either Claussen or Vlasic. I once tried a fermented brand from Natural Grocers that just weren't what I expected, my son loved them. First and last time I tried fermented, maybe I'll give Bubbie's a try.

I’ve learned to use red wine vinegar and a four salt-salt & pepper mix. I like the Clausen pickle idea and refrigerate them right away.

First order of buusiness with a new jar of pickles is adding red, hot pepper flakes. Put 'em in the refrigerator for a week (with an occassional shake) and enjoy!

Lacto fermentation is the only way to go. When it comes to kosher, pickles like you get in real delis, that is what is served. My aunts all came from Poland, and Bubbies are very close to what they used to make. Ba-tempte is the other authentic lacto fermented pickle on the market. They are about as good as Bubbies.

I tend to buy the Mt Olive pickles for the size. They pair well on a burger and sanwiches that are served with mustard. The one gallon jars I buy them in are popular with crafts people for Teraniums. Although I do also like Bread and Butter Pickles for sandwiches that don't pair well with mustard. Like seafood.

I seem to recall my grandmother doing the salt brjne.. Only with dill. Kept in a dark place and skim the mold off etc. But added alum? Im thinking that helped with the cloudiness...they were so delicous ❤

Claussem is the best. Pro tip: if you can't get your hands on some hot and spicy just take a tablespoon of crushed red pepper and put it in there overnight.. if you can wait.. if not maybe 3 hours would be good.. but the spice level will keep going up over time.

Being a European in the US, I know we tend to complain about many, so we like whole dill pickles in a vinegary solution. What they don't have which is in the South (Tx is the only state as far as I know with a store called HEB) is their generic pickles although the Gherkins/Cornichons are the best because they are not too salty. Some of these brands might just sell in the MidWest or NorthWest states.

If you like pickles, and you can find them, try Don Hermann & Sons, made in Garrettsville, OH. I lived about 2 miles away from them...my school bus would go past their farm every morning. I live west of the Mississippi now and I can find them at Sprouts.
