I’m also a huge Bubbie’s fan. I absolutely love the pucker power these pickles pack! They are also beneficial because they’re fermented. Good for your gut! I like to use the tiny pickles (finely diced) in tartar sauce, as they punch up the flavor to offset the bland mayo

Ba Tampte garlic dill for the easy win. But I agree about McClures. They're expensive and are supposed to be "fancy" but they taste like a straight vinegar sponge.

If you like pickles, and you can find them, try Don Hermann & Sons, made in Garrettsville, OH. I lived about 2 miles away from them...my school bus would go past their farm every morning. I live west of the Mississippi now and I can find them at Sprouts.

My choice is Safe Way. Plus, they are cheap and Krogers sells them. The key is a uniform crunch and bite thru the skin and pickle with no mushiness or harder skin. Mt. Olive is 2nd. My favorite brine is Vlasic Sweet Heat. I grow and make my own pickles. Fermenting is a must. It gives me that uniform crunch and bite thru the skin and pickle. Brine flavor you can control and spice it how you like. Buy a couple of brands. Compare and contrast. More expensive ones aren’t necessarily worth the cost.

Ugh again with the Boar’s Head. ALL of their products contain ADDED preservatives. I worked at a deli where for sliced lunch meat we roasted &smoked whole loins of turkey, ham, beef brined our own corned beef and smoked our own pork belly for bacon. We pickled peppers, onions and cucumbers weekly from scratch. There were ZERO artificial/synthetic ingredients involved in our operation. It was always an insult when a customer demanded we have Boar’s Head products available to order. Go to the Ralphs/Kroger deli if you want that processed crap that cost more than what we were offering. BTW Grillo’s and Clausen are my pickle picks.

I'm fine with preservatives. There are only 2 of us in the house, so we often can't finish products before they go bad, if they have no preservatives. It's a waste. If you have a big family and go through jars of food regularly, and can afford fresh unpreserved food, great.

Almost all the pickles in this lineup contain some kind of additive and Claussen did one better (worse?) than the typical sodium benzoate and calcium chloride by including high fructose corn syrup.

Before I watch this video.. My hands down favorite has always been Claussen from the refrigerated section.. My family all feels the same.. More expensive, but well worth it. My next favorite is the Kroger Brand, also in the refrigerated section.. Not sure if this one is reviewed.. The shelf stable pickles always seemed soft with little crunch to them... except for some baby pickles that I had once.. Can't remember the brand, but they were pretty good.. Can't wait to see the outcome of this video...!

The Boar's Head pickles MAY be number one now... but that is sure to change. Boar's Head has so many different suppliers and they're changing them faster than anyone can keep track. The inconsistency of their cold cuts, for instance, is legendary.

I tend to buy the Mt Olive pickles for the size. They pair well on a burger and sanwiches that are served with mustard. The one gallon jars I buy them in are popular with crafts people for Teraniums. Although I do also like Bread and Butter Pickles for sandwiches that don't pair well with mustard. Like seafood.

I got to imagine the smaller ones taste more sour because they can more easily just absorb vinegar sourness all the way to the center where as the others it won't go as deep. I prefer a nice crisp pickle above all else, so the Mt. Olive and other "shelf stable" ones I'm not as big of a fan of I'll still eat them, but if I have a choice it's always the refrigerated one, there's something about those awesome pickles put on a sandwich from a deli they don't have that traditional "bright green" interior that ones like Mt. Olive and other shelf stable ones seem to always have that just tells me "yup this pickle has been cooked to death"
