very touching scene of you working with your daughters. I built a little boat with my son when he was 7 or 8. He's 24 now and I hope some day he'll build something with his kids.

I'm dying to turn my attention to my workshop, but don't have time yet. I've watched a lot videos on benches to get ideas on how I want to build it. Not one of the great workshops came up with the brilliant idea the worst workshop did. Making an extending apron from an old garage door track is freaking ingenious!

I sketched up some plans for a workbench of my own that combines some elements of a few different types of well estalished bench designs, and I was pretty proud of it. I even reached out to a realtively well known wood worker on here for their thoughts, where I was met with "nice try, but don't mess around with the classics." This video is all I needed to realize that there isn't one person out there who has all the answers and that my bench is going to come out great. Well done, man!

Sad to see this comment . Don't let them discourage you. Like @worstworkshop said, It's yours. I personally hate traditional workbenches. The one in my shop sits covered in tools because I only ever use its vise. My workbenches are 2x material and plywood. and part of why I like them and build them is that I have no problem driving a screw into the top, or drilling a few holes to jig things up. Make it your way and you'll use it.

I also need to build an outfeed table for the table saw. Anyway, you gave me some great ideas, and I really appreciate your innovation and ability to think outside the box to make things work. My grandson who is almost 5 wanted to help Poppa. As it happened we had recently stopped @ Princess Auto (Canadian version of Harbor Freight) & picked up a shovel the "fit" him. He was happy as all get shoveling the tailings out of the back of my pickup. Yes it took longer to get done, but the pride on his face because he was able to help Nana & Poppa was worth it. And yes I was also 20 years old once same lol, planers not tall enough , I use the bottom rail as a foot rest, working with the things I build , I stopped a long time ago finding faults which probably I could only see , am not a wood craftsmen, people say that's amazing whether it be or not I agree doesn't matter , I built it and spent time in my workshop creating the end result, that end result I learnt from and more than happy with the finished thingy what other think of it problem belongem they. @ 14:11 its a cord classis indeed. Nice build I live remote rural off grid here lucky I have not the largest workshop but enough room for everything can swing a cat in it , not that I would but I digress have been told I do so, will share a story was in my workshop one morning and I felt a bump against my butt , turned 2 look and it was one of the kangaroos from the local pod that had come in through the door mooching for food as they do. Don't know why I added that but yes if one can have that type of trust given with a wild animal must be doing something right me thinks. May I add the old fella was on his last legs and chose to come 2 the workshop and lie down and pass knew he was safe there , I had animal welfare come an euthanize him , guess that was self disclosure can see the same thing in you , good people like you and your family are getting harder 2 find. @@worstworkshop really whatever works and fits your space! i look forward to hearing how the missing front support works out in the long run. i made my bottom supports a little lower than standard and have juust enough room to put a foot or two on it when my stool is pulled up. maybe i will redo the mortises and put it higher instead so i can sit with a chair? also, instead of a corded drill, i grabbed some old bits, and the brace my grandfather used to use on the farm to do my holes. i timed it... just as fast as the spade bit on an electric drill. way more fun.

The corded drill joke was awesome. I had a project where my cordless drill wouldn’t do it. I got the most inexpensive name brand corded drill I could find at a local ACE (Black and Decker). About broke my wrist with the torque it generated. So yea, a corded drill does come in handy.

Ah man! In your after surgery video, I was hoping for a Near Death Experience testimonial. Jokes are cool. That's why I watch your videos. Love & hugs..

I loved how you used the router to flatten one side of the tabletop, what kind of bit did you use? On a side note, very few woodworking videos can get me to laugh multiple times while I watch them, and so far they've all been yours. Keep the dad jokes coming.
@worstworkshop7 ай бұрын
Thanks! For the router rails, I just used a regular old straight bit. I'm sure there are better bits for a job like that, but (as always) it was what I had.
@mikehodges65987 ай бұрын
@@worstworkshop There are router bits specifically for that. Woodpeckers has one, but since it's Woodpeckers it has a $$$ price tag.

Your videos are a joy. Though not as quotable as "The Princess Bride" or "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" several of your comments made me laugh. Now I'll just have to rewatch so I can remember them 🙂
