Okay, let's talk about it - what are 𝙮𝙖𝙨𝙨𝙤𝙨?!! 🏃🏻‍♀️🔁
Yasso 800s are a workout designed to not only improve your speed but also claims to be able to predict your marathon finishing time 👀 Bart Yasso came up with this training session and says he would use it to determine his fitness level going into a marathon ⚡️
The amount of time, minutes and seconds you can hold for the workout are supposed to correlate to the hours and minutes it will take you to finish the marathon 🎯
For example, a runner who can run 3 minutes and 20 seconds for all the 800m repetitions should theoretically have a marathon finish time of 3 hours and 20 minutes 🚀
Bart Yasso himself has said that when he can do the reps in 2:45, he has run a 2:45 marathon. Same for 2:50 and even as specific as 2:37 🤯
While yasso 800s are a popular workout for predicting your marathon finishing time, the truth is there is no scientific data that shows that it does so accurately 🤷🏻‍♀️
For some runners, there may be some correlation between the workout and their finishing time, but this is far from a guaranteed occurrence. so you can consider your yasso 800 timings to be a ‘rough guide’ of your marathon finishing time, rather than a clear indicator🫡

Yes! Love Yasso 800s. I've been doing these throughout my training plan. I'm hoping for a sub 4. I haven't run a marathon since 2015, but I've been putting in the hard work. Love your channel!

Learned something new today! I didnt know about Yassos before. Thank you for sharing - now I am wondering where to find a track to do this workout to get an idea of my projected marathon finish time

I think the original intention was for the recoveries to match the duration of the intervals. I know when I last did this workout, I basically did my 800 and then jogged a 400 and immediately went again. 2min standing recovery might provide a similar recovery. Just for me, once I stop...It's hard to get the old bones moving again. Good-luck with the remainder of your block. I'll say hi if I run into you in Chicago.

I know some people do jog recoveries - I used to last year! I sometimes feel I get more out of my speed if I do standing recoveries but everyone’s different! I do understand the benefit of jog recoveries though - good luck in Chicago!

Yasso 800s is a great workout. I just don't know about the correlation between 800 m time and marathon time. I don't see anything logical or scientific about it. I still do them.

Yup, I totally agree! I linked an article in the description box - definitely no scientific evidence but something that some people have found helpful for training and determining what time they might be able to run! If anything for me I think it’s something to do for the fun of it 😄

I don't know how this translates to full marathon. I'm training for my first half and could comfortably run 800m reps close to 3 mins each. Maybe with enough training I can run a sub 3 marathon in a few years lol but I'm just good at short distances.

There isn’t scientific evidence to support it, but I included some info based on the guy who created it and did run his reps exactly replicated to his marathon times! I think it’s more for fun if anything 😄
