Ah, I'll have to send you pictures. Well, quite a few pictures of our forever home when we're done. It is a castle home, and the outer brickwork is stacked differently than most. Each brick is pulled out 1/4" one one end, creating a beautiful textured design. The turrets are especially gorgeous.

I have the coloured lights all over and I love them. The Philips Hue system is amazing. 99% of the time I’m just using the standard light but it allows you to also change the kelvin output based on the time of day. So you can have that super bright light when you need it and then have the coziest amber lights when relaxing. I just redid my entire home and changing up my lightening instantly took it too another level. The colours can be cheesy but they can be fun at times but the real win is the variations of light temperature. Also, you can set scenes so you can program it to remember how you like the lighting when you watch movies, work, cook, etc. it’s amazing!!!

I’ve always been a friend of dark cabinetry. I did black cabinets in a previous home but they were glazed over with other colors. Gorgeous! What are your thoughts about greens - like dark earthy greens. That is kind of where my head space is heading. My house had 3 fireplaces with antique Delft tiles (original). I was lucky enough to get more Delft tiles that we used as a backsplash behind my stove. It perfectly tied the new kitchen into the old house (ca 1896)

About the bricks segment. One of my favorite architectural style is Expressionism. One of the building from that style that I particularly like is Hamburg Chilehaus or Grundtvig's Church in Denmark. Great architecture can be done with bricks...

I agree and disagree on the mosaic tile. So I agree that it is common for people people to treat it as if they are adding interest. I will say it is good to keep both infrastructure and materials in mind when judging things like mosaic in a niche. So a professional will pull out their tripod laser to properly measure and find the best layout. Sometimes, the main tile design or the infrastructure structure won't align neatly with everything (facets, windows, or niches) 🤷‍♀️ so something has to give. In my opinion it is better to make sure the main title flows smoothly with infrastructure such as facets & windows and just use a matching mosaic in the niche. On the issue of niches, it is better to build one that will accommodate large bottles that by one of those tile ready prefabricated niches that always seem to be too short and/ or small.

Re: 7:48 - we're not good in all of Canada for earthquakes... I live in Victoria, at the conjunction of three major faults. We have workplace earthquake drills annually, and we all own earthquake kits. We know the big one's coming. But most of Canada is good. 😊

I have a dark academia upstairs, and an LED gamers paradise in the basement. The basement is meant for fun, high energy, multimedia activities, whereas the main living areas are academic, moody, old world and romantic spaces. So if you're going for a particular vibe in a certain space, I see nothing wrong with the LED strips. But if they are put there without corresponding decor it's just kind of weird.

I loved this, agree on about 90%. I do love calm spaces, interesting lighting and art in many forms. 8 months and I still need to pick a couch and kitchen table lol (we did a whole house clean out of all our things sparing just a few items). Have chairs for days that I love. I am chill, fam is cool to wait too - makes cleaning a breeze!

I have RGB strip lights in a lot of places in my house. I have them set to be a cool white during the day, warm white at night and a dimmed red during sleep hours. This is all for circadian rhythms and helping you wake up and fall asleep. The red at night helps because there is no blue light that will wake you up. I have toe kick lighting in all my bathrooms and kitchen turn red on a motion sensor in the late night hours. So RGB strip lights are beneficial if used right.

There are ways to make coloured LED strips look good, but even as a ligting designer, I almost never do it, because it can so easily go wrong, it often takes involvment of the architect or interoir designer of the space, to plan it out from the begining. It can look amazing, but generally, trying to pull it off is high risk, low reward.

I get the colorful maximalism thing, I just couldn't personally live like this. The color LED thing is worse than a dorm, it's a teenager's room in their parents' house. No marble on the floor, and definitely not on a staircase. My uncle's marble stairs tried to kill me as a child and I will never forget. I say yes to hand crafted pieces, but my bank account says no. Absolutely make this into a series!
