The 24-50 is pretty much glued to my A7Cii. One feature you didn't point out is that it's at 50mm when at it's shortest length. Since I spend most of my time between 35-50, this is a big advantage as it keeps my kit nice and compact. Also, the lens actually has some character - it's not sterile like the other Sony lenses. It probably won't win any sharpness or contrast awards, but it is soooo convenient to have 24/35/50 on hand at all times.

Nice video. Someone already mentioned it, but the Tamron 28-200 f/2.8-f/5.6 is simply phenomenal. Excellent price, portability, image quality, and zoom range. Except for scenarios where I've need to go really wide, it's been on my A7C since I bought it about 6 months ago. You definitely miss having 2.8 for some of the focal lengths...but the versatility really makes up for it.

I also have one, but there it is, the 28mm means i also have to carry a UWL and a large aperture prime.

Not going to be a common experience for everyone because of its size but I brought an original a7c and the Tamron 28 to 200 mm Zoom to a music festival and was really floored by my results
@BrianGatti2014Ай бұрын
100% agreed. Unreal lens for the price. Image quality is phenomenal and is extremely lightweight given it's massive range. I wasn't a zoom lens person before this, I was primes exclusively. But this lens hasn't left my A7c in months.

Hi. I also have the A7cR, for its portability and versatility when traveling. I also had the dilemma of Sony 20-70 F4 and Sony 24-50 2.8 but I opted for the 20-70, the 20mm is important so I don't have to take another UWL on the trip. So, I only take it the 20-70 and 35 1.4 or 24 2.8.

My favorite zoom is the sony 20-70 f4. 20mm is useful for indoor or architecture. You only need to often accept higher isos. My best primes are sigma 17mm f4, sony 24 mm f2.8 & 40mm f2.5. the jewel of the crown is the sigma 50 mm f1.2. big and heavy but comfortable to use on a A7CR
@francischang23 күн бұрын
Don't sleep on the 24-240! I primarily use prime lenses, but sometimes you just need that focal length versatility. For instance, if you're at the beach, your subject can be very far or very close, and you can't be changing lenses.

I had lost sight of how many Sony brand zooms there were these days! Too many choices. Ironically, I bought two compact Sony zooms for my A7CR that you didn’t even mention, the 16 - 35 f/4 PZ and the 70 - 200 f/4 Macro. Of all the options covered in your video, the 24 - 50 f/2.8 is easily the most appealing to me. In my decades of using primes, 35mm has always been my “one lens that goes everywhere”, 24mm and 45mm being my next most frequently used. That last zoom would cover everything for me, and at f/2.8. Now, which lenses to sell in order to buy it?

When I got my first A7C I picked up my Sigma 28-70/2.8 DG DN Contemporary and the 16-28/2.8 DG DN C as well. After moving up to the A7CR and A7CII last year I moved up to the Sony FE 24-50/2.8 G and then the FE 16-25/2.8 G. Just prefer the f/2.8 lenses to the f/4 although I still have and use my FE 24-105/4 G that I use on my full size full frame Sony bodies like my A1 and A7RV. Have a full suite of GM II zooms and GM primes but consider them just a little too big for the A7Cx bodies. The one GM prime that stays small is the FE 24mm f/1.4 GM at only 5 grams more than the FE 24-50/2.8 G at 445 grams. Like the FE 20-70mm f/4 G but have never owned it. Anyway enjoy your lens comparisons and wish we had other smaller primes like the small G trio, the Zeiss Batis 25, 40, and 85mm, and newer versions of the 28/2, 45/1.8, and 55/1.8. Thank you and take care.

in the past I started with the 24-105mm F4. I think the 20-70mm F4 is the one I should have bought. now that I own the A7Cii, I have enough lenses. but the two small zooms are really good. 24-50mm F2.8 and 16-25mm F2.8. Basically one would only need those two zooms on a trip. or if travel very light, then I enjoy currently the 24mm f2.8 and 85mm F1.8

For a 1 lens zoom solution, it is hard to beat the Tamron 28-200. I have the 20-70 and 24-105. I use the 20-70 a lot, but the 24-105 has taken a back seat to the Tamron 28-200.
@MarkoKoskenojaАй бұрын
I own the 20-70 with my A7C2 but I wish I had the 24-50 f2.8 instead as that focal range would be fine. Still, my 40mm f2.5 is my favorite lens on the A7C2.
@AaphreeАй бұрын
The 24-50 is the only lens I have for my A7CR. I typically only shoot in the 35-50 range, and only go down to 24 when I need the wider shots. It's compact enough to not feel unbalanced, and it has fast AF and good sharpness for what it is. Once I add an 85mm to my collection I will have all I really need. Of course it would be nice to have a faster prime lens in the 35-50 range, but for my uses not necessary and I would rather the convenience of not having to carry multiple lenses and swap them out since this is just a hobby for me

I sold my Tamron 28 70 because I didn't really use it anymore after switching from the A7II to the AC7, too big. I just bought the Sony 16 25 and the few cm less make the difference in hand (I like wide angles). The idea is that it accompanies the Sony 40 2.5 and the Sigma 90 (fixed but nothing better to be discreet and compact, I'm a fan)..we'll see if one day I fall for the 25 50...😅

Since moving to the a7CR from the Canon R5, one lens I miss for events, first responders, protests (riots in some cases) was the 70-200 2.8 RF. Though a little bit on the bigger side, the weight was not terrible and the reach let me get close without being too close in those particular situations. The new Viltrox 135mm 1.8 has been intriguing, but I feel it would just be too big for the a7CR. I'm really on the hunt for the smallest and longest zoom lens that can compliment it.

I find the 24-50 pretty tempting but it's to much of a overlap with other stuff I own. Currently I have the 17-50 Tamron and I want to combine it with a 50-300 to have the widest rage possible with the most compact 2 lens setup. For outdoor/travel stuff 24 is not wide enough and 50 not long enough.
@DylanBlackburnАй бұрын
Thats why I don’t regret my decision for going with the 20-70 over the 24-50. I forgot the Tamron 17-50 even existed!
@joel.wuestehubeАй бұрын
@DylanBlackburn I used the 17-50 for multiple trips already this year. The range and weight is perfect for me but you'll definitely find a hit to Image quality compared to the 20-70 or the 24-105 which I owned previously

Tamron 20-40 for me. Cheaper and smaller than any of the Sony lenses. Also focuses super close. The extra 30 mm of the 20-70 would be nice, but I use this lens for hiking and astro sometimes so f4 wouldn’t be good enough. I can get to 60mm with apsc mode and still looks great. 24 wouldn’t be wide enough for me hiking and indoors. The aperture ring of the Sonys would be nice, but with the front dial on the A7C II this isn’t an issue for me. Overall, Tamron wins for me, and is often the only lens I travel with. Wide enough for architecture and landscape, zooms enough for half decent portraits, focuses close enough for macro like detail shots. It’s sharp enough for me, I don’t care about having the best sharpest lenses, as long as it’s leagues ahead of a phone I’m ok (and it is 😂)
