The Star Trek theme never used a theremin. Both the pilot episode and season one's theme used Loulie Jean Norman's soprano voice, which is often mistaken for a theremin. Recent syndicated issues of Star Trek used Elin Carlson's voice. (Referencing Wikipedia). The theremin in this episode of BBT is a Moog Etherwave.

The Star Trek theme was NOT a theremin but a female soprano singer's voice. I know it's possible, I can do it on a good singing day ;) It was altered with an synthesizer organ. The WHOOSH sound of the enterprise going by was also a human voice.

They don't really use a laugh track like most sitcoms. After filming an episode, they screen it in front of a test audience, and add their laughter in post. i.stack.imgur.com/soYC0.jpg So while most sitcoms will record a single audience laugh for one, two, maybe three episodes and use it over and over from then on, TBBT used the aforementioned method for every. single. episode (it's why the laughs always felt well suited to the situation, real people laughed at those specific points)

About £300 - £550 depending on the model for moog ones. There's others from about £100 from others like one from the UK. It's the controls and features that seem to indicate the price level. That UK one has the basic controls for adjustment whilst the moog ones have more features. A good beginner model seems to be the moog theremini which is a digital model that has an unusual feature of sound libraries. Most other theremins like the moog etherwave Sheldon is playing there are analog, so only have one basic sound that is adjustable

I play other instruments more, piano is my favorite and I’ve played piano since I was a kid so I usually go for the piano. But! I do play the theremin sometimes, it’s lots of fun to play around with and I played it for a few hours today while sipping wine. What a lovely Saturday night activity. It sounds okay!
