So is it best to put your best argument into the petition to head off the objection?

In the petition, you just need your allegations and causes of action. In most cases, the real legal arguments will come when you go to trial. The court typically will not rule just on the petition. Also, if someone is going to object, they'll object no matter what you say in your petition. This is a lawsuit and it gets messy before it gets resolved.
