Daniel, it was your videos on the W220 and 221 that influenced me to by one of each over the last 8 years. I have re- watched each of them annually as they are so entertaining and refuel my passion for the car. I have really enjoyed both, and done a lot of repairs on both. Basically fixed all the common issues on each one. One thing I learned is that it is cheaper to buy the best maintained one than to fix up the cheap one. Oh, and you will enjoy the car better if you are driving it more than you are under it. Next time I might follow this advice. So... Where is the W222 video? They are hitting ideal depreciation and the prices of cars are finally getting back to reasonable. Now's your time my friend.

Using THIS video as my MAIN guide (out of many), I FINALLY found 95% of my dream spec and the provenance of previous ownership that I was looking for just 30 minutes from my house and decided to pull the trigger. Almost walked due to no AWD, but realized I'd spend the next 6 months trying to recreate the deal right under my nose, now, plus everything else about the situation was simply too sweet to walk; One owner. Family matriarch who spec'd the car new from the MB dealership and dealer maintained at all intervals. All records. Car fax spectacular, clean title, no wrecks. Previous owner took it to the dealer if a bird pooped on it. Maintained in this manner until he died in November, 2023. Every last record, new tires, two keys, no wrecks, pano-roof, piano black. Disappointed he skipped the rear seat package, but the rear does have the automatic shades all around. AMG appearance package. I didn't want these AMG 20's, (AMG wheels are soft. Bend too easy), but damn they rock. As promised, (threatened?), in a previous thread, I had them shave the S550 badge at the detailer before I ever brought her home. Naturally aspirated. Lovely car, my 6th Benz and 3rd S-Class. The true successor to the W140 in my mind. Thanks for 5 years of (hilarious!) guidance in this purchase!

You are an entertainer! I had a 2008. The best or nothing? Nothing looks way more attractive than that beautiful but unreliable car. Other little things really disappointed me such as the interior wood cracking, the metal finish on the buttons pealing off, the leather on the armrest stretching, and many rattles. I liked how it looked, how big the rear seats were and the sounds of the doors closing. The rest of the car was not impressive. We are a Lexus family now and much happier.

While depreciation is technically a cost, it's more of a mathematical exercise than a true out-of-pocket cost. Depreciation only counts when doing your taxes. You've either purchased the car outright, or you have a car loan that is completely unrelated to depreciation. If you get a car that was reasonable well treated and didn't have any genetic predispositions for failure, they are much more affordable (valuable) than you indicate.
@Angry-Lynx4 жыл бұрын
nope, depreciation is real cost, beacuse in the end when you sell it you will get back only part of price you paid for it ; so you basically lost money just because car is older and more used.

Another happy 07 S550 owner. I joke that it's the Camry of S-classes. It's a great car. I finally did have to do a front right strut but I simply shipped it to RMT in FL and $293 all-in later they shipped back my rebuilt air strut. They are super easy to change as well. Oh, it was the original, 17 year old strut. Hard to complain about that.

Don't be scared. I bought my 2005 S550 with 70,000 miles in 8/2017 for $11,000. I have replaced the following till now: 1) engine and transmissions mounts, 2) both front struts, 3) AC fan, 4) Brakepads & rotors, 5) Starter, 6) Sparkplugs, 7) Fuel vapor canister repair. It sound like a lot but if look at these things carefully, they are regular wear and tear. I don't have any major engine issues... yet. I say keep the car and enjoy it. Keep up with the oil changes and small stuff here or there.

@@gotimelimousineinc2864 Well, I don't go to the dealership. My indy mecahnic is very reasonable. That fuel vapor canister job was a rip-off. But I drive 20,000 miles/year. These are just regular wear items. I would have to do this on a Toyota too.

I just got a 07 S550 with AMG package after getting rid of my 2011 BMW 550i GT. The Mercedes has a more reliable engine and drives less sporty but much comfortable than my bimmer. I got ESP and ABS warning light on and it turns out to be a wheel speed sensor. Also, the 07 model is suffering a valve body issue that could cost you $3k to repair. Hopefully you won't go through it.
