The Big Dipper is 100 at Blackpool Pleasure Beach 🎢🎂🎉

The Big Dipper at Blackpool Pleasure Beach first opened on August 23rd 1923. It was built by American engineer Charles Paige, and is the only surviving roller coaster he built in the world. The structure is Grade II listed.

Love the pleasure Beach. The big one is great at night especially during the illuminations. Love the big dipper happy 100th birthday. By the way it still holds a world record set by Richard Rodriguez Augest 1998 who rode the dipper for a total of 1000 hours. I'll be on the Pleasure Beach on the 28th October for halloween can't wait.

Happy 100th Birthday Big Dipper! Woody is the second largest wooden Big Dipper in Europe I believe, largest is in Czechoslovak. People go all over the world to ride wooden Big Dippers it's become a bit of a cult thing. Pleased to hear you will be going into the Pleasure Beach, riding on Woody maybe? I admit that I did not know that The Big Dipper still existed: I had erroneously assumed that it had been replaced when the The Big One was constructed. It's an enormous credit to the men and women who, over the span of a century, designed, constructed (Americans) and maintained it (Britons). I wonder how the timber is preserved against the ravages of time.
