Joe Farnsworth is one of the best younger drummers on the scene at the moment. Whoever said he hasn't got good time clearly doesn't know good time himself; have you played with him? I doubt it, somehow.

Controversy? He is a genuine humble guy, and probably the greatest gift to music since Copland or the Beatles. I met him at a concert, at first I was disappointed because I expected he would play classical, it never occurred to me that he would be playing jazz. However, it was the best musical performance of any kind I have ever heard by far. Absolutely jaw dropping incredible to hear live, and I don't even like jazz.

Excuse me for my ignorance: probably I offended some educated gentlemen: the drummers are musicians or not, I do not know it, but if Wynton chose THIS drummer (Joe Farnsworth), HE was the suitable drummer,(of course, he's not blind or half-deaf.)

I think you are wrong. Wynton is not against any kind of new jazz, Wynton innovates from tradition, which is quite different than being against all innovation.

why is there so much contraversy around wynton? i mean really if anyone knows could you explain it to me? i just think, holy cow, the dude can play. he toots his horn better than most profesionsals in jazz and classical. whats wrong with that?

Thanks for pointing out how sad Joe Farnsworth is. I guess George Coleman, Cedar Walton, Horace Silver, Benny Golson and Pharoah Sanders (among others) don't have a clue when it comes to hiring a drummer.

A couple of things: 1.) Would any musician want a drummer without time? 2.) Live music moves, its not a metronome. which gives way to the idea of the music breathing; music ebbs and flows 3.) if you count with the guys, you'll see that the drummer is playing the rhythms that wynton and the bass lay out 4.) Should things like time and opinions be so rigid? Why be so pretentious when you can just enjoy whats happening. Its why I'm eclectic. are drummers really musicians anyway? haha j/p!!!

@straightaheadable All musicians here were independently booked. And because he's playing with Wynton Marsalis that instantly puts him in an elite caliber? Take Allen Vizzuti for example, every band he plays in is absolute shit but he's a fucking world class trumpeter.

imho drummers have to be twice the musician with half the utility... drums are not a tonal instrument but drummers are expected to fit into the band none the less. a drummers job is time and groove. what is a song without groove? every comment on here has been, "sweet groove". you can't say this cat ain't doin his job.
