I've lived with a rectangle lawn and picture frame flowerbeds all my life. Seeing your garden and the beautiful landscapes in your tours has inspired us to make paths and beds everywhere with less and less grass! It's so exciting!

We have had several black Swallowtail caterpillars on our bronze fennel in the last two weeks. This year is our first time we planted it in our butterfly garden so I am glad you mentioned to keep an eye on it. (Oklahoma zone 7a)

We had fennel when we lived in OK. The swallowtails loved it! There seem to be a lot of them out there.

Your videos are my favorite. They are so informative. I trust what you teach. I struggle with a lot of other channels because they are being paid by certain companies and that is the only plants they want to talk about. I know you work with southern living but you always talk about other plants as well.

Good to see the spider web fatsia....I just purchased 5 to go along side a shady, moist side of my house. Was thinking I did not have enough (they are in 3-gallon pots now), but seeing yours is very reassuring that I have enough for the space they will go into. I am going to bring in some contrast/fill with Auntie Lou Cordeline so it does not look so sparse on that side. My landscape re-do is almost done.

I planted mint in a container and the little rascal somehow jumped the container. I THINK the roots went through the drainage hole in the bottom. It does keep the rabbits from destroy things plant near it but OH MY GOODNESS it’s ALL over the garden now. I was pulling it yesterday but I’m never ever going to get rid of it, there’s soooo many root’s everywhere! 🌸💚🙃 it was kind of funny, I don’t wear gardening gloves, the mint gave my hands a nice cooling sensation.🌸💚🙃

Thankfully I saw somewhere to put your container on pavers or wood to keep that from happening. BUT the lemon balm....

Carex Everillo gives the same beautiful chartreuse color in full shade as it does in part shade/part sun. It grows a bit slower in the shade, but does eventually reach its full size. I LOVE it! (Sorry, Steph 😄🌸🐝)

So many nice niche spaces around the house. Everything looks great! I'm blessed with a tall porch & good size shade trees so I have to accommodate both views, ground level & from above. You're much more confident moving stuff around!

Yes it's amazing all the different types of growing environments in such a small area. I've been much more open to moving plant material around. I do give a lot of thought to placement before planting, but I've learned it's not a permanent decision and it can be fun to switch things around and edit where necessary

I love these your videos. Your garden is lovely. I love the mix of herbs growing with the flowers and veggies. Im trying to get the thyme to grow still so that I can food scape with it. I hope to continue with it. We have dill so far doing great but our herbs are just sprouting.

Love this series. I’ve tried and tried to grow the variegated form of dianella with no success. The heat and humidity here rots it every time I think I’ve got it going, and if that doesn’t get it, wet winters do. Love the delicate little bloom that it gets. But please don’t disparage my favorite little sedum! 😊

Hi Jim, thank you for these tours, I live seeing all the beauty in your garden. I bought bronze fennel in hopes to attract swallowtails to lay eggs but no luck. I didnt realize how big it would get. Its 5ft and gorgeous but I do have to pull seedlings. I got dragons blood sedum as ground cover, I hope it does kill my perrenials.😮, I hope my sedum will not be as aggressive as yours.

Pomegranate: mine died in the December freeze. My neighbor’s did too. The only plant I had that was damaged. I guess they aren’t well suited to zone 7a.

I actually think urban areas are more susceptible to deer browse. We live on acreage surrounded by deer but they don’t come near the house- plenty of stuff to eat in neighboring woods.

Definitely keep the sassafras in a pot… don’t plant in the ground! We had a sassafras tree we had to cut down 3 years ago and OH MY GOD we get THOUSANDS of shoots coming up from the roots every year from spring through fall. I pull them and pull them and more keep coming up!! Far worse than any other weed I deal with in my garden 😑😑😑
